153 - 204 (original) (raw)

**The Golden Compass (**2007) - Yawn! I mean after Harry Potter and Narnia, this just pales.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007) - French biopic about Elle magazine editor Jean-Dominique Bauby and his life after a stroke leavees him paralyzed. You see most of the film through his eyes. Moving film.

Iron Man (2008) - OK, well we all know my love for Robert Downey Jr., but aside from that, this movie was really good. I like the way they mixed in current events to make it more watchable.

Fingersmith (2005) - A Thief (fingersmith) and an English Lady find their lives intertwined even deeper than they had hoped. Lesbian film.

Marihuana (1930) - Too funny. A Propaganda film about the drug.

Rush Hour 3 (2007) - I liked 1 and 2 much better. This one was OK. 3/5 stars.

A Simple Plan (1998) - Billy Bob Thornton and Bill Paxton star as 2 brothers who find money and devise a 'simple plan' to obtain and keep it.

The Innocents (1961) - A remake of Harry James' "Turn of the Screw'. A Governess is hired to watch 2 children, but they seemed to be possessed. It was very corny, very 1960s.

The Asphalt Jungle (1950) - Film Noir about criminals who carry out a jewelry heist, but greed gets in the way.

Immortal Beloved (1994) - Finding the truth about who exactly Beethoven's Immortal Beloved was.

Yojimbo (1961) - Akira Kurosawa film about a Samuri who strolls into a desperado town at war with one another. A Fistful of Dollars with Clint Eastwood was based on this film. This film was hysterical. Lots of comic action.

The Omega Man (1971) - The last man on earth tries to survive during the day, while staying away from infected mutants at night. This is the remake of "The Last Man on Earth" from 1962 and "I am Legend" is the latest remake. Pretty dated film, but fun to watch.

Room With A View - Masterpiece Theater (2008) – The latest remake of this classic film. I can’t compare, bcause I haven’t seen the original, but I thought this was a pretty good version. A woman falls for someone who is not suited for her, and she has to fight her emotions. This has a very sad ending.

13 Rue Madeline (1947) – James Cagney plays a secret agent, who while in France, has to sniff out a German spy amongst his flock.

The Outer Limits - Death & Beyond (1995) – A series of “_The Outer Limits_” TV episodes that deal with Death (and beyond). Very dated TV.

The Tide of Life (1996) – A Victorian housekeeper learns about the heartbreak and joys of love through three distinctly different relationships with men.

Across the Bridge (1957) – A white color criminal scuttles away to Mexico to escape indictment, but his plan is short lived as he is found and is being threatened with extradition. All the while he is followed by a dog who becomes his best friend. How much will this man sacrifice for this dog?

M (1931) – This was an awful German film about a man who murders little children and a town is trying to find him. Stars Peter Lorre, but he has done so much better.

The Last Legion (2006) – My Colin Firth obsession rears its ugly head once again. 12-year-old Emperor Romulus Augustus has to be killed, and the only one who can keep him alive is Aurelius (Firth) and his men. They travel far to fight. They band together with another legion and they become the Last Legion, a prequel story to King Arthur.

Knocked Up (2007) – Unlikely man knocks up beautiful woman. They try and have a go at a relationship. Typical stupid fun fare.

Picture Bride (1994) – Japanese woman is tricked into marrying a man twice her age. She is shipped to Hawaii and misses Japan. She dreams of saving enough money to go back to Japan, but tragedy strikes and she wonders if she will ever go home.

Dream Wife (1953) – Cary Grant is engaged to an American woman with a strong personality but after a visit to India realizes that there are other types of more accommodating women in the world. It is a comedy.

Chaplin (1992) – With Robert Downey Jr. Not as good as I had hoped. I read Charlie Chaplin’s Autobiography and I was disappointed in the film because they left out something very vital to Chaplin’s life that not many people know. And I thought this would explain a lot about him as a person. Of course Downey played him very well.

Tipping the Velvet (2002) – An oyster farming girl falls for a female actress and learns of her feelings for women in general. Her heart as broken and she searches for love. In her journeys she needs to earn money and the things she does (dressed as a man) are quite interesting indeed.

Baby Face (1932) – Stanwyck pre-code film. A woman is determined to make it to the top in the business world. She does a lot of work on her back.

Red Headed Woman (1932) – Harlow pre-code film. A woman hooks up with her boss, leaves him for another rich man, all the while she’s sleeping with her chauffer.

The Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian (2008) – Just as good as the last one.

The Memory Keepers Daughter (2008) – TV movie based on the book.

Sanjuro (1962) – Akira Kurosawa’s sequel to Yojimbo. This time the Samurai finds his way into another town where the law is corrupt. Of course, he puts things right with his sword.

No Reservations (2007) – A head chef resents the new chef, but of course you know they hook up, break up and re hook up.

Paths of Glory (1957) – Kirk Douglas is Col. Dax, commander of a weary regiment of the French army along the western front during World War I. When French generals order the regiment to carry out what amounts to a suicide mission against heavy German fire, some of the men refuse. But when the army tries three of the soldiers on charges of cowardice, Dax acts as their defense attorney.

The Pianist (2006) – Biopic about Polish concert pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman and how he survived the German removal of the Jews. It is a very long movie, but you will not notice. Excellent!

One Night With the King (2006) – About Esther (of the bible). Cheesy religious film, but I liked it.

Henry James' - The Turn of the Screw (1999) – Colin Firth had a small part so I had to watch. A Governess is hired to watch 2 children, but they seemed to be possessed.

The English Patient (1996) – A badly burned pilot is taken care of by a nurse who is alone in the wilderness. Through flashbacks we see how he got to his point in life.

Magnolia (1999) – Netflix says “American life woven through a series of comedic and poignant vignettes.” Except I didn’t see any comedy. Tom Cruise is annoying as hell.

The Last Sin Eater (2007) - Ten-year-old Cadi Forbes lives in an 1850s Appalachian community proud of its faith and its ability to keep secrets close to home. Wracked with guilt over the tragic death of her little sister, Cadi seeks out the only person she believes can help her -- The Sin Eater.

Bramwell - Disc 1 Season 1 (1995)
Bramwell - Disc 2 Season 1 (1995) – BBC TV Series about a female doctor in 1800s England who opens her own clinic to cure and care for the poor of England. This series ran for a few years, this is the first season. I have one more disc to this season to watch and it is awesome.

Indiana Jones: The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) – I’ve never seen an IJ film before, and I thought this was fantastic.

Shadow of the Thin Man (1941) – Nick and Nora.

The Ten Commandments (2006) – This remake (made for TV) just happened to be on, so I started watching it. It was like a car wreck, I couldn’t turn away.

Trauma (2007) – Colin Firth again. God awful movie.

The Great Debaters (2008) – Excellent film, highly recommend. A 1930s African-American debate team beats the odds, with a little help from their devoted teacher.

Where the Truth Lies (2005) – Firth again along with Bacon. A popular 1950 comedy duo hides secrets that come out in the end.

Shadowlands (1993) – A biopic about C.S. Lewis’ life and how he met and married his wife and then fell in love with her, of course this all happened right before she died of cancer. Can you say SAD!

Don't Mess with the Zohan (2008) – Yes I saw this. I like Sandler, what can I say. It was crude, offensive and funny.

My Life So Far (1999) – Slap me, Firth again. based on the memoirs of Denis Forman, a British TV mogul. A scottish boy in 1927 narrates his life so far (at the age of 10)

Wings of Fame (1990) – Firth and O’Toole star is this bizarre film. Firth kills O’Toole and they go into some type of waiting area for famous or imfamous people. They stay for an undetermined amout of time, as time has no meaning there. Once your popularity fades you are vanquished from the waiting area into the unknown. O’Toole realizes Firth killed him, and wants to know why. Fame is fleeting.

Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1984) – Like I said, I’ve never seen any of them. This one was just OK for me, I’ll let you know what I think of the others.

Untraceable (2008) – A FBI agent tries to find a cyberkiller. GREAT film.
