H.S. Scouting Report

H.S. Athletic Background

A 2013 McDonald's All-American, Johnson signed with Kentucky as a five-star recruit after reclassifying to the class of 2013. Johnson, who briefly attended middle school in Lexington, was a teammate of former Wildcat Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in New Jersey before transferring to Montverde Academy in Florida. As a freshman, Johnson started 18 of 39 games for UK, including each of the Wildcats' NCAA Tournament games. He starred with 15 points and six rebounds vs. Louisville in the Sweet 16 and 10 points and seven rebounds vs. Wisconsin in the Final Four. As a sophomore Johnson served as the center on Kentucky's second platoon but saw his minutes decrease as the season progressed and freshman Karl-Anthony Towns pushed for an expanded role. After averaging 6.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game as a sophomore the 7-footer declared for the NBA draft.
