Before one could get any info one wanted from the internet- I was a member of the "Universal coterie of Pipe smokers"- I had a cook decal like the one you see- but alas it was on my 1967 dodge which I sold many years ago.
I have many back issues- some with references to Aleister Crowley in them- IT was great Rag- and TOM DUNN- who was diagnosed with Stomach Cancer in 1995 had to end the periodical. Anyhoo Im wonderinf if TOM passed away or not ? We used to share wonderful notes and images and old postcards of Tobacco ephermei through the mail- The good old days of pen pals and magazines like these- is something I miss. If anyone wants to borrow some copies of the Pipe Smokers Ephermis let me know- also he printed some of my poems and drawings in some of them.

Just out of curiosity, how frequently do you purchase your tobacco(s)?
Do you purchase only a few ounces at a time and replenish monthly? Or do you find a blend you like and store it? If the latter, how many ounces do you usually purchase at a time, and what have you found to be the best way to transport your tobacco when smoking away from home?
Normally I purchase 4 to 6oz at a time, however I don't regularely change blends, so I'm wondering if it would be more convenient to simply purchase in bulk.
Also, Hello, 93, and thank you shepjoe for creating this lovely community!

Aleister Crowley Pipe Smoking Quote ( regarding altitude) {318}
"We kept warm with kangri, of a sort, when things got too bad. We had brought up a number of Japanese instras, but they would not burn; there was not enough oxygen. The cartridges could however be used if left loose in empty biscuit tins. For a similar reason pipe-smoking was impossible; the only way to do it was to relight the pipe from the flame of the candle at each puff. We had a few cigars and we could smoke these quite comfortably. (It appears that the altitude is not wholly responsible for this. At greater heights on Kangchenjunga I smoked my pipe as comfortably as at sealevel.)"

Plaster disc or something" and holes for the moisture to escape from. The things really OLD looking- it could be cleaned I guess- has some ancient orante stuff on it. I will give it closer inspection- for now I put a bag of an English blend in it and one of thsoe portable little Humidor discs for now.

English Blend Morning Resh I have been hydrating my English blend which I got quite a LOOOONG time ago from Peretti's in Boston- Its their custom English blend and taste just likie many expensive English tin Brands- I have been wetting the inside soaking stone ( with Spring Water)on the inner lid of my Humidifier ( so called) and then putting weight on the cover ( a glass jar of Pennies) to make sure nothing in the way of AIR escapes. I packed a good bowl this morning and , like some JR Bobb Dobbs clone of a Subgenius- Did my Morning RESH outside standing facing EAST before my CAR with the PIPE clenched in my Mouth- well lit and I loudly declcared my Morning RESH to the Universe.( You and I)
The PIPE stayed lit halfway to work- and then I tasted the left over re-activated tobacco drool. Bitter. This means Im long overdue with the Whiskey and Pipe cleaners ! Will you be smoking YOUR pipe today?

Hot Toddy I have been back to my PIPES lately and I have to clean them all with whiskey and Pipe cleaners. Currently Im smoking a 20z puch of a mix called "Hot Toddy" - Its got Cavendish in it- I purchased it at The Red Lion Smoke shop which is on 94 Washington Street, Salem MA
www.redlionsmoke.com
I usually smoke "English blends" but I just felt the need for something sweet-this blend isnt bad- not too sweet, its light and you can smoke it all day and if I could smoke it all day I would! Currently all of my tobacco at home - which are mostly cakes flakes and English blends, need to be Humidified- anyone got any suggestions on the best ways to humidify or re-enliven your old tobacco?
Anybody been enjoying their Pipes lately?
If so what are you smoking?

PIPES for SALE New in Pipes
SIX NEW Manuel Shaabi pipes including some fantastic carved.
Better yet they are all better prices than before.
Manuel's total production is under 100 pipes year and when you look at his carved pipe its easy to understand why. While we call pipe makers carvers they don’t really carve they sand but Manuel actually carves drawing on his original skills as a wood carver for Church statuary. A unique set of skills.

Castello – Wonderful pipes from Cantu, Italy. The only pipes made from briar aged for 10 years. The aging shows in their incredible smokability.

I only have two. One being an old pot pipe that was a gift.
My tobacco pipe I got many years ago at Oldtown in San Diego. They had a pot of "Irish Seconds"--pipes with minor imperfections--fairly cheap. I found one that wasn't stamped second.
Honestly, I haven't smoked a pipe in a long time. But I've thought about it regularly recently.
The memory that sticks out to me is long ago, when, I think I was a sophomore in college--actually the summer after that. I had a job at a gas station working 4 to midnight. I'd get home and everyone was asleep. All my friends were asleep. I was too young to go to a bar. So I was alone and too worked up to go straight to bed. So I would sit and smoke a pipe. Simple, contemplative time, puffing away.
You've certainly put me in mind to find a good tobacconist in Chicago. I was lucky to have one in the small town of Carbondale.

Aleister Crowley- Prophet and Pipe Smoker
I Love this IMAGE of Crowley- He looks so otherworldy- An Image of him as an Old Coot- His tobacco was mostly "Rum Soaked Perique" with a bit of Latakia- But there are many soruces out there on his exact favortie mixture- I once read that his blend was "Molasses Flavored"
Anyhoo I have made my version of Crowley's pipe mixture- and once you get over the CAT URINE-NESS of it - It is quite good and strong- makes the lips slightly numb- a little goes a long way.
The only place I can enjoy my PIPE is driving in my CAR it seems. Which is a Pity !

93 Fellow Pipe Smokers 93- AH I dont know where to begin- I have been enjoying PIPE Smoking for the past Decade - I guess it began when I became a Father at age 30- but before that my Grandfather on my Mother's side of the family smoked a Pipe- adn I loved the smell and the sight of the smoke. Pipe Smoking is very relaxing for me. I prefer English blends but I occasinsly get into the Sweet Latakia. Im interested in trading lends- and discussing Pipes- id loved to see pictures of your pipes- I have over a Dozen- some were by Grandfters- some I bought fresh- others I got at Yard sales and then had them cleaned and polished. If I had a digital camera and a home computer-I would be posting images- SO I invite you to share anything PIPE related and if not PIPE related then anything realted to THELEMA or the O.T.O. in general- or anythign to do with Surrelaism or .....
