Photorefractive gratings were formed in undoped CdTe and used to provide efficient energy exchange between nanosecond pulsed light beams (lambda approx 1.06 mum) characterized by an exchange gain of ~ 0.13 cm - 1. Kinetics and spectroscopic studies have shown that photoconductivity is linearly proportional to the concentration of excited 4f states. The holographic current was described with a model accounting for the energy transfer between the rare-earth and ligand electronic shells, ionization, recombination, and the diffusion and drift currents in the conduction band. The dependence of the holographic current on the modulation frequency, grating vector, etc. were used to determine the carriers' diffusion length and the screening length in Er-doped crystals.

An analogy between photon and proton channeling is developed and compared with the experimental results.

A long-living stable electron droplet with the size of about 100μ m has freely moved with the velocity ~0.5 cm/s in the air near the surface of the crystal experiencing the Earth gravitational field. The microscopic model of cluster stability, which is based on submicroscopic mechanics developed in the real physical space, is suggested. The role of a restraining force plays the inerton field, a substructure of the particles' matter waves, which a solitary one can elastically withstand the Coulomb repulsion of electrons. It is shown that electrons in the droplet are heavy electrons whose mass exceeds the rest mass of free electron at least 1 million of times. Application for X-ray imaging and lithography is discussed.

While particle (as protons) channeling is widely used for the characterization of defects in crystals, channeling of photons is less known. We have demonstrated feasibility of optical channeling method for copying of phase radial grating on the chalcogenide semiconductor glass film and photo-thermoplastic films (PTPF).

It was shown that the electronic processes in this material are fast and occur in nanosecond range. These materials are very sensitive up to 1800 nm. The nature of the electronic transitions which determine their NIR photosensitivity was established. At present there is a strong need for fast near-infrared (NIR) photorefractive materials and devices with the potential applications in the areas of optical communications, optical storage, image recognition, optical computing and optoelectronics, including the elaboration of novel adaptive sensors for laser systems of remote ultrasonic inspection of the quality of different industrial goods and highly sensitive laser vibrometers for the detection of vibration over a wide frequancy spectrum [1, 2, 3, 4].
