This section continues the pictorial-based article devoted to the publishing of the most academic... more This section continues the pictorial-based article devoted to the publishing of the most academically consistent letters which were exchanged in connection with the 5th ISFNR Congress (Bucharest, Romania: August 25-31, 1969). Selected out of several hundreds (though an incomplete collections), the letters belong to the Archive of the "C. Brăiloiu" Institute of Ethnography and Folklore (Bucharest), where the team of its director of yore, Mihai Pop, duly preserved them-boxed, closed up and then ignored. Forgotten for a half a century, they are exposed now especially for the contemporary research to better realize the power of connecting, exchanging, building up personal, socio-political and academic ideas and careers, through meetings, postal letters, public gatherings and influential ideological and epistemological discussions.

The papers talks about (a) the musical anthropology of political protests -- from the culture of ... more The papers talks about (a) the musical anthropology of political protests -- from the culture of enthusiasm, euphoric solidarity, mental state formation and manipulation, psychoanalysis, as well as musical-poetic creativity --, and (b) the art of spontaneous and mass/group shouted rhymes and rhythms. In this respect, it is hereby demonstrated that within any protest and/or popular gatherings (irrespective of language/nation/geography) the octosyllabic verse and 8 primary pulse/rhythmic formullae ("children's rhythmical system") are universally actualized/materialized.

The book revisits the history of local (East-European) musicology/ethnomusicology, both surveying... more The book revisits the history of local (East-European) musicology/ethnomusicology, both surveying and pinpointing their developing ideas, purposes, and (nationalist) ideologies, their political involvements and subordination. Thus, it brings into the fore topics, subjects and themes which were marginalized, ignored or at least overlooked by the conventional, traditional, mainstream scholarship. Festivals and festivalization are scrutinized, academic scholarship is both candidly and critically analyzed, street arts and the anthropology of public spaces are described, observed, experimented and interpreted. Eventually, the concept of fieldwork is expanded, the Human Being (not products, objects, academically fetishable texts) is set (back) in the center of all research and understanding. Hardships and limits of any contemporary hunt for traditional culture in contemporary village life are noticed and rendered (applied studies); as well as inquests into the prison culture (music among convicted inmates) are minutely and largely exemplified.

The book (in Romanian) represents a 3 decades-long research, quest, and writing, with evolving id... more The book (in Romanian) represents a 3 decades-long research, quest, and writing, with evolving ideas about the use of extremes like fortune/misfortune, richness/poverty (as well as all intermediary states) as references, means, and media for spiritual and folklore creative compensation. Not only Romanian folk and popular ceremonies, rites and celebrations (which is the folk culture in what it had at its best), but also real, daily old-times life, as well as ethnology research/discipline, are minutely surveyed. Definitely, in and by non-conventional ways, in order to reveal and discuss to what huge extent they were marked by both existential scarcities and nationalist ideologies. Poverty and spirituality, sufferance/humiliation and emotional/aesthetical creativity, vernacular religiosities, the Roma plight and musical servitude, gluttony vs. charity, religious transactions and penal theft, the quest for richness and treasure hunting, social-financial vanity and upstartness, from folklore times to contemporary nouveau-rich behaviors... there is a huge array of themes, subjects, motives and motivations (interspaced lay/religious) exposed/discussed here in candid, non-idealizing ways.
