Scarification: Vine on my left bicep. It's what I used to sign my name with growing up, because my initials are ERB and I'm fascinated by herbalism

Piercing : navel ring. My first and only metal. nothing I've gotten since has been willing to heal.

Considering getting another...

A little advice, if you're debating whether or not to tattoo on a yin surface or a yang surface, go yang.

Not so web-savvy yet but will someday figure out how to post pics.
For now, I uploaded one of my tat to my profile page.

Howdy.

I'm sorry if this is in the memories, I have very limited internet time and need some quick anwers.

I am interested in getting a tattoo behind my ear (mostly hidden by my hairline). How painful is this as in there is very little there beside skin and bones how bad does it vibrate and hurt on your skull?

THanks all.

Ink in the "real" world I currently have two small, inconspicuous tattoos (foot & lower back). I really want to get a third, preferrably on the back of my neck. Only problem is, I wonder how this will affect future jobs. I've recently been accepted to NYU Wagner for Nonprofit Management and hope to be moving out into the professional world in two to three years time. Up until now I have spent my tattoo-ed time as an undergrad, a social service employee (group home setting), and a Peace Corps Volunteer - none of them serious (ie. conservative) professional endeavors.

My question is - how much have you/do you worry about such things and have visible tattoos ever affected your job?

If I got a small tattoo on the back of my neck as I'd like, I could always cover it with longer hair while at work which would work for now. But for the past five years I've had boy-length hair and am considering chopping it back to that length this summer (it's only been long enough to cover my neck for the past 6 months now).

Advice?

your students Do you think students take you less seriously is they know you have (or can see your) tattoos? I keep debating whether or not I should remain covered up in section, or if I should relax about it.

Hello from Berkeley Name: K.
Institution: University of California, Berkeley
Field: English/Composition/Creative Writing
Tattoos: Seven going on eight. One is the first line of the Odyssey, in greek; the rest are various snakes, fish, flowers and leaves, all on the front of my body. I'm getting my first back piece (upper back) as soon as I find out where my tattoo guy moved to.
Piercings: Just two in my ears. I formerly had my nose and eyebrow pierced. I also took out the ten other ear piercings years ago.
Pictures: I wish. I've never gotten around to buying a digital camera.

I'm glad to find all of you. Berkeley has become kind of conservative since I joined the faculty in 1999 (yep, I'm the tattooed professor. If there are any other tattooed professors out there, let me know.).

Piercings: navel, 8 in ears (3 retired)

I don't have any pics at the moment, but the one on my shoulder blade is vaguely like my icon. (it was definitely "I just got accepted into a lit PhD program" ink.) As far as I know, I'm the only person in my conservative program with any tattoos...

Number of tattoos: 2 on my shoulder blades (the Pogue Mahone symbol, a cartoon of a girl holding a dagger taken from the cover art of a Mr. T Experience album) and a trail of butterflies that extends from my neck down most of my back.
Number of piercings: Nope!

I am excited about this group because I feel that my individuality really gets stifled in my current environment. My program is sooooo conservative. I'm over half-way finished my second year and most of the faculty and students don't know that I have tattoos. It can be really frustrating trying to balance who I am in terms of my profession and my personal life. I find myself regretting that I have my tattoos, when really I should be regretting choosing such a stuffy profession!!
