It has been observed that when people think in dissimilar ways and are not willing to compromise ... more It has been observed that when people think in dissimilar ways and are not willing to compromise at all, conflict arises. Preventing conflict and building peace are long term processes that need to be sustainable for the full realization of human rights. In order to sustain peace there is need to prevent conflicts. The changing nature of conflicts presents new threat to man, hence the expanded number of situations to address. But since conflict emanates from the mind, it makes good sense to look at ways by which the mind could be trained to become restful. Music as an art that works on the mind has a role to play here. Music education is not only useful in preventing conflicts but in sustaining peace. The focus of this paper is to establish the role of music in resolving a spectrum of social and political crisis in the contemporary world. Music has been found to be an instrument used in transforming lives because of its effectiveness ... more Music has been found to be an instrument used in transforming lives because of its effectiveness as an agent and medium of transmitting information to the populace. It is used to pass crucial information, impart knowledge, soothe emotions, and affect lives. Music affects the ways and manner of its hearers positively and negatively, hence, it is expedient that people get right information through a good channel and medium. Music composers, performers and producers should be careful of what is composed and performed in order to achieve the desired result. This paper seeks to enlighten music composers and producers on the need to judiciously use music as an instrument of transformation in Africa and other world cultures. Pentecostalism is a charismatic reformation movement which emerged among the protestant community... more Pentecostalism is a charismatic reformation movement which emerged among the protestant community in the early twentieth century by the radical revivalists in Los Angeles. This paper attempts to examine the work of Pentecostalism and its exerted influences on the musical practices in the churches in regards to techniques, mood, rhythm, harmony, text, melodies, form, and mode of presentation in church worship. It reviews the hallmarks of Pentecostalism by elucidating aptly on the etymology, history and background and beliefs of Pentecostal movement in the worldview and Nigeria in particular. Materials used in this work are mostly from religious and related music literatures. Using the historical research design, the study discovered that the movement has influenced the spiritual and musical perception of the people to a more contemporary style of praise and worship music rather than hymn singing alone. In light of the findings, the appraisal of the Pentecostal movement is recommended in order to maintain the age long tradition and philosophy of Pentecostalism.

This paper seeks to enlighten music composers and producers on the need to judiciously use music as an instrument of transformation in Africa and other world cultures. The use and effect of music on human being was traced from antiquity to date through library sources. It discovers that some of the recent music composition and performance in Nigeria and some other world cultures are not good enough for consumption. It recommends a viable music teacher education that will impart adequate knowledge on the music teacher trainee which will in turn transforms the music consumers.
