Laminar air flow over a surface results in turbulent flow at higher Reynolds number due to flow s... more Laminar air flow over a surface results in turbulent flow at higher Reynolds number due to flow separation. An attempt to delay Flow separation by using different surface profiles has been made. The paper involves experimental investigation of drag on circular cylinder by implementation of smooth, rough and channeled surfaces at three different velocities. The investigation has been carried out in a subsonic wind tunnel to determine how different cylinder surface profiles vary the drag in the wake region of a circular cylinder. The coefficient of pressure and drag has been calculated from the values measured from the wake probe for three different surface profiles at speeds 30, 35 and 40m/s respectively. Graphs has been plotted to show the variation of coefficient of drag along the wake region. This study will help us to correlate and select an appropriate surface profile which delays the separation point and also has a less drag. The results will have a direct application on all circular cylindrical structures such as fuselage, landing gears and towers. It has been found in the study that the channeled surface cylinders has less drag and wakes compared to the smooth and rough surface profiles.

Abstract--Energy demand is increasing day by day with rapid growth in industrial as well as house... more Abstract--Energy demand is increasing day by day with rapid growth in industrial as well as house hold utilization. But the energy resources are gradually decreasing at a higher rate. With this scenario the energy resources would come to an end within a few years and hence there will be scarcity of fuel. In the last two decades we had invented many methods to harvest the energy. Only few of these methods accomplish it without burning fuels. This paper presents an innovative design of magnetic reciprocating generator which no longer burns any kind fuel for energy production. The machine works on the principle of magnetic attraction and repulsion. Magnetic field between the pair of permanent strong magnets is reversed intervallic to get the reciprocating motion. Later the reciprocating motion of one of these magnets is converted to useful rotational motion using slider crank mechanism. This rotational motion when fed to dynamo generates electricity. Two longstanding aim of this new system is to reduce the fuel consumption and to increase the overall performance of the energy production. The model has been designed using CATIA V5.The working of the proposed machine is explained in detail with 2D and 3D sketches. This new concept of electricity generation will revolutionize the energy production, saving the renewable sources to a great extent.

Turbines that would provide a quiet, safe, simple and efficient alternative to our supposedly advanced bladed turbine aircraft engines are the need of the hour. One such turbine called the bladeless turbine that poses to be the ideal replacement for the conventional turbines was successfully designed. The design of such an unconventional turbine was conceived considering the catastrophic effects that conventional turbines may have on the machines they are incorporated. The turbine is designed in such a way that the blades of a conventional turbine are replaced by a series of flat, parallel, co-rotating discs spaced along a shaft. The discs are used to eliminate the expansion losses that are incurred in conventional turbines and also to reduce noise considerably at high RPMs. Furthermore, the design of the turbine ensures that the turbine rotates at high RPMs with total safety unlike a conventional turbine which explodes under failure due to fatigue. The engines making use of these bladeless turbines can run efficiently on any fuel, from sawdust to hydrogen. Bladeless turbines are also the greenest turbines with almost nil harmful effects on the environment. Another major advantage of this design is that this turbine has only one moving part, thereby reducing the vibrations to a minimum. Overall this design aims at bringing out a new age turbine with improved performance that can provide an engine that is economic, Eco- friendly and reliable as the expensive, complicated and wear prone transmission is eliminated.
