Cheers!

I don't know if any of you know that, but. The Eaglette is a part of the project "The 1billionhungry". The main goal of the project is to get at least on million signatures together and to hand the list over to all heads of government of the UN.

This weekend, the spot for the project will be shown across Europe before the matches. Next to René Adler, Gary Neville, Luca Toni and a coupla more have taken it upon themselves to call attention to the project.

And yes, yes. Here is the download @ » Mediafire.

René Adler's surgery yesterday in Munich was successful. Now he simply wants to go on a long holiday - first to Leipzig to visit with his family and after that with his girlfriend Anne - until the wound is healed enough to start rehab.

On a very different note, he also mentioned that the wants to start training on June 28 with the rest of the team to even play a better season than the last.

That should put a stopper to all the speculations about him leaving for Arsenal London this summer. For now.

Cheers everyone!

It's done and over with. The Bundesliga finished today, and Bayer 04 Leverkusen qualified for Europe. If anyone had told me that before the season started? Oh my God. Sure, it's a pity that Bayer 04 didn't make it to 3rd place, but hey. We're playing internationally again! That's all that matters to me personally.

H-anyways. Adler and Rolfes (and Friedrich and Augusto) attended the match today, and here are some pics for you. Again - if the pics won't load for you? Reload. ScrapBook again because PicFront hates me.

Oh, and while I am at it? This is also a call for participation :) If you have anything on the Eaglette - be it news, pics, fics, art, icons, German or English? Post it! That's what this comm is there here for after all.

From the Bayer 04 site:

“It was the most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make. But it would have been irresponsible in terms of myself, my club and the national side to take part in the World Cup. I could do it from a medical point of view. But the pain is so great that I would not be able to produce my best in training or in games. But that level of performance is essential in such a long and intensive tournament. And that requires fully-fit players,” said Adler.

Doctors gave the 25-year-old the green light to play against Hertha Berlin last weekend. But Adler agreed to undergo an operation if he was suffering excessive pain. “I’ve really tried everything but I realised after the Berlin game that there was no point,” explained Adler who will also miss Saturday’s last game of the season away to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

“I feel really sorry for René,“ declared Bayer Leverkusen director of sport Rudi Völler. “His dream of playing in the World Cup is over but we’ve got to accept the doctors’ decision. I hope, and firmly believe, that René will be back in goal for Germany’s next major tournament.“

I still don't know whom I should be pissed off at more: The Eaglette himself because he thought playing with a fractured rip after only two weeks, or the doctors who told him that nothing could happen from a medical POV and that it's just a question of pain.

Yes, yes, he's back in training. Why doesn't that surprise me? H-anyways, it was only light training like footwork, stabilising and catching, but still.

While it's still uncertain if he's going to play on the weekend, the WC 2010 is definitely a safe bet.

In the meanwhile - enjoy some pictures from today's training session! If the pics won't load for you? Simply reload. They're hosted on Scrapbook, and we all know how wonky that one is.

And why doesn't that surprise me?

From the Bayer 04 homepage:

Germany goalkeeper René Adler will be back on the training ground at Bayer 04 at the start of next week. Adler was given the green light following further examinations by the Germany team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfarth and the Munich-based specialist Dr. Ludwig Seebauer and discussions with the Leverkusen team doctor Achim Münster.

“There are no medical grounds against me training again next week,” explained Adler. His broken rib does, however, rule him out of playing in the Bundesliga home game against Hannover 96 (Saturday, 15.30 CET). 19-year-old Fabian Giefer comes into the starting line-up in place of the Germany keeper. At the moment, it is unclear when the Leverkusen number one will return to action. Adler: added: “We’ll take it day by day and give ourselves time to make the right decision.”

Yeah. Right.

No, he is not like Oliver Kahn. Or Jens Lehmann. And nothing at all like Toni Schumacher or Sepp Maier. All these top German goalkeepers from the past were extroverts whose emotions often ran high and who were not afraid to push the limits of accepted behaviour. Rene Adler is totally different.

From the Bayer 04 homepage:

Bayer 04 keeper René Adler will miss Saturday’s home game against Hannover 96. According to the team doctor Dr. Achim Münster, the Germany goalkeeper sustained the injury in last weekend’s game against VfB Stuttgart but treatment will not involve an operation. At the moment, it is unclear whether Adler will have to miss any more matches after the Hannover game. “According to the doctors, this type of fracture should heal quickly so I’m cautiously optimistic,” declared Adler.

A replacement for Germany’s number one has yet to be announced for the Hannover game on Saturday. “Fabian Giefer and Benedikt Fernandez have shown what they can do in goal in Bundesliga games. Both players enjoy our full support,” explained Jupp Heynckes who will not make his final choice of Adler’s replacement before the weekend.
