To this aim, a quasi-experimental pre-and post-test design was adopted. In the experimental group, MLA was supported by FC model, whereas only the MLA was applied in the control group. In order to collect data on academic achievement and self-regulation skills, an academic achievement test for measuring perimeter and area and a self-regulating learning strategies scale were used. Data were collected for 51 4th-grade students, and a t-test was used to analyze the gathered data. Consequently, the MLA supported by the FC model significantly improved the academic achievement of the experimental control group. In addition, students' self-regulation skills were not affected by the approach. Experimental group applications were conducted in a timeframe set by the Turkish Ministry of Education, while control group applications were delayed.

The study focused on the group talk and discussions to understand the students' actions and interactions during the process of problem solving. Fifteen students and their teacher participated in the study, which was conducted within a collaborative action study design. Different types of problems were constructed including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Students were divided into four groups and observed for four weeks as they solved the different types of problems through group discussion. In the study, it was observed that the students who took leadership roles in the groups during the problem solving activities lead discussions. Additionally, the study found that the students, who could not solve the problems individually, were able to contribute more to the problem solving activity in the group works.

Chaos, Complexity and Leadership 2012, Springer Proceedings in Complexity 2014, 2012

It is known that values and norms that are the key elements of organizational culture have a vita... more It is known that values and norms that are the key elements of organizational culture have a vital meaning for the organization. How a cultural leader shares those key values and norms with members of the organization is considered as a serious problem in today’s conditions. That cultural leaders make members of the organization to accept those values unilaterally is thought to cause chaos in the organization. Change is the most dynamic concept of our period. Organization culture should have a flexible and democratic structure for the administrator to interpret the change in the right way.
It is thought that cultural leadership roles of the administrators are important for organizational change (Howey 1988; Lieberman et al. 1988). It is known that there are some problems encountered by school administrator while carrying out his cultural leadership roles. Increasing responsibilities of the school administration, lack of the opportunities to help to meet the educational needs of the children, demands of the private benefit groups and community groups are considered to be the reasons of chaos for the administrators.
It is seen that educational systems all over the world have created new roles for school principals. It is thought that traditional features of school principals like knowledge, skills, competence and attitude are inadequate in carrying out these roles and responsibilities. It is considered that school administrators’ level of using their cultural leadership roles is important in understanding changing world. At the present time, schools have formed a living space towards new and universal values. On the one hand, the world is forming values and forms towards multicultural schools; on the other hand, it is dealing with problems that are out of the school principals’ control such as poverty, broken family ties, disabled students, students experiencing difficulties in preparation to join community and people considering violence as a lifestyle. In such situations school administrator’s cultural leadership roles are considered to help to understand this situation and the school would experience the chaotic situation at the lowest level. In this context, school should acquire the features of a learning organization. In this acquisition process, school principals have important roles to make organization culture have norms, symbols and a history that doesn’t resist changing.

The after-school education program is a broader definition than the implementation of a school cu... more The after-school education program is a broader definition than the implementation of a school curriculum in out-of-school settings and outside school activities. A wide range of activities contributes to the development of children in after-school programs, including art
culture activities, individual and team sports, and academic support activities (such as studying and foreign-language courses). Students gain skills, such as communication methods, positive social activities that lead to making life plans and new decisions about professions, or reinforcing existing decisions.

After-school education programs contribute to personal and social well-being while promoting children to be creative with their activities. This book contributes to the education system both theoretically and practically by emphasizing the components of social-emotional
learning, skill-based learning, student happiness and the development of real-life skills from the point of view of Turkey’s people. Societal improvement can be achieved by after-school education programs that contribute indirectly to the reduction of crime and the creation of a
better society because children gained positive habits with age-appropriate after-school programs.

Especially in countries where teaching is structured in a limited way, the students are in a struggle to be successful in their school lives because their individual development is not being taken into account.
Children are often expected to do their academic duties or are left to their own devices. They are directed to attend the upper-stage schools (such as universities and graduate schools) in order to be at the top of the life struggle because they believe these schools are the go-to places to find a good job. Children bored by doing homework during after-school hours, show their feelings by an unwillingness to go to school or by missing opportunities to attend the after-school programs that sometimes do take place.

Those countries categorized with low socioeconomic status because of their sluggish
social and business structures are mostly unaware of concepts in after-school education. They
lack the professional configurations on the subject of systematic application of after-school
education because the vast majority of after-school activities require financial support. This
book will help with understanding this system through some concrete studies of educating
children in after-school hours.
This book includes theoretical knowledge and practical research results for children in
after-school hours based on the theoretical framework of social-emotional development, one
of the popular educational approaches of the last decade, when education was clearly felt to
need to go out of school for the establishment of right social relationships. When the after-
school activities’ effects and parents’ support of children’s development are considered, the
reflection of this training collectively is supported by practical research results. The book
comprises examples of concrete considerations about after school education by considering
the effect of social structure, which includes culture on children’s attendance to after school
programs considering Turkey case specifically.
