Microbial biomass and enzyme activity were compared in vineyard soils managed by organic and conventional practices under Mediterranean conditions during the growing. Organic treatments were (i) green manure and farmyard manure at the rate of 30 t ha-1 (GM1), (ii) green manure and farmyard manure at the rate of 10 t ha-1, plus E2001 EM Bio-polymer gel solution (GM2), and (iii) green manure plus E2001 EM Bio-polymer gel solution (GM3). Only mineral fertilizers and pesticides were used in the conventional system (CONV). Soil organic C and soil microbial biomass C (SMBC), and protease, urease, alkaline phosphatase, and dehydrogenase activity were significantly higher in the organic system than in the conventional system. The ratio of microbial biomass C to total organic C content (Cmic/Corg) was also higher in the organic plots. Total organic C content increased...

Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effects of applying different types of organic and inorganic material [control (C; no application), basaltic pumice (P), commercial dry compost (DC), pruning residue:farm manure mixture (1:2, v:v) compost (PR+FM), straw:farm manure mixture (1:2, v:v) compost (S+FM), pumice:dry compost (P+DC), pumice+straw:farm manure compost (P+(S+FM)) and pumice+pruning residue:farm manure compost (P+(PR+FM))] to ‘Black Magic’ grapevines on their agronomic and nutrient acquisition during two consecutive years: 2017 and 2018.The highest yield (6172 g/vine and 7874 g/vine) and cluster weight (411.4 g and 463.2 g) were obtained for the application of S+FM in both years. In terms of berry weight, the highest value was obtained for P+(PR+FM) in 2017, although...

When the saplings are developed well at the beginning, this will be important for root development after planting to land, decreasing the future yield lowness, and even obtaining large amount of high quality olive grain and oil, therefore studies about this subject are essential. In this study, Gemlik olive (Olea europaea L. cv. Gemlik) variety saplings were grown with applications of different doses of the vermicompost that is an organic fertilizer (0, 5, 10, 20 and 40%) to production material and single dose of chemical fertilizer which is used commonly by planters (100% production material + chemical fertilizer). The micro nutrients content of the production material were analyzed. According to the results, the micro nutrients analysis of the production material used for the growth of olive saplings at the 3rd and 6th months was significant. Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn and B values as the average of all treatments were 12309.56, 34.74, 625.66, 52.61 30.85 at the 3rd month and 12066.24, 28.60, 507.03, 47.40, 29.98 mg kg-1 at the 6th month. In general, 40% vermicompost (VC) + 60% production material (PM) increased the micro elemental content. Use of vermicompost in production material can be said to increase quality of production material and positively affect nourishment of olive saplings and their developments. Vermicomposting is a simple biotechnological process of composting, in which certain species of earthworms (Eisenia foetida etc.) are used to enhance the process of waste conversion and produce a better product. The use of vermicompost is important for the sustainability of agriculture. These results showed that the effects of different organic material (vermicompost) applications on olive sapling properties are important.

The Effects of the Use of Vermicompost in Olive Tree Farming On Microbiological and Biochemical Characteristics of the Production Material, 2019

During the experiment 'Gemlik' olive has been grown in 36 pots with 6 applications, 3 replications and 2 seasons. The experiment was conducted in laboratory and under controlled conditions for 6 months. At the end of the third and sixth months, CO2-production analyses were applied to the production materials together with alkaline phosphatase and dehydrogenase enzyme activities. According to the experiment results, the effects of the production material applications on CO2 production, alkaline phosphatase and dehydrogenase enzyme activities have been considered as p < 0.01 significant statistically when the averages of 6-month trial process were examined.

Total organic C content increased in the organic system by 13%-23% in comparison to the conventional system. Application of GM1 and GM2 resulted in greater microbial biomass and activity, as compared to the other management systems. SMBC was significantly correlated with dehydrogenase, protease, urease, and alkaline phosphatase. These results indicate that organic management positively affected biochemical properties, thus improving soil quality and productivity.

Soil was fertilized with either farmyard manure or poultry manure. Manures were applied either alone or with two biological preparations, E2001 and Allgrow Bioplasma. The effect of solarization on microbial activity was also studied. Soil samples were taken three times in each growing season. Activities of protease, urease and phosphatase decreased by 26% and dehydrogenase by 50% after solarization. In both crops, the highest amounts of organic C and SMBC were determined in soils with applied poultry manure. Protease and urease activities showed a strong increase after the first manure application. After the second manure application, enzyme activities stabilized at lower levels than in the first 6 months. Low temperature in the winter season may have limited phosphatase activity. Dehydrogenase activity was very low in all treatments, probably because the greenhouse soils were intensively fertilized with nitrogenous fertilizers before the experiment. Among the organic sources used, poultry manure had a long-term effect on enzyme activity.
Recently, it has been carrying out a lot of researches and applications on waste water treatment ... more Recently, it has been carrying out a lot of researches and applications on waste water treatment and using this kind of water in many countries. Advanced technological equipment is using with high costs for the treatment of waste water and recycling or not harming the environment. However, these systems have very high costs for both building and operation with qualified labor needed for operation and also maintenance. In consequence, the ‚Constructed wetland systems‛ are recommended as alternative solution to treat the waste water especially for small town and villages. The constructed wetlands are simple systems simulating the nature like swamps. And they have embodied all procedure in the typical or conventional treatment to refine waste water. It can be summarized that the advantages of these types of systems are being simple and low cost of building; low energy requirement and operating cost; not need very high qualified labor, and in accordance with environment. The only particular disadvantage of constructed wetland is that occupying vast lands. In this study, a constructed wetland build in Torbalı-Çakırbeyli village of İzmir province of Turkey was monitored between 2005 to 2008 years and the obtained data was assessed. The four years average removal performances of this system are; 57.36 and 73.61% for Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD); 56.18 and 79.25% for Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5); 56.62 and 91.04% for Total Suspended Solids (TSS); 26.45 and 48.39% for Total Nitrogen, 41.38 and 54.45% for Total Phosphorus. Finally, the value of parameters like BOD5, COD, TSS and pH found that they are below the threshold values of Water Pollution Control Regulation (WPCR) of Turkish Government.

For this purpose the sewage sludge that stabilized with lime were taken from IZSU-Çiğli Waste Water Treatment Plant of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and were applied in 5 different doses (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 t da -1 ) to İzmir Menemen Plain soils. The studies were carried out for 24 months and the effects of sewage sludge application on microbial biomass, CO2-production, enzyme activities of dehydrogenase, alkaline-phosphatase and β-glucosidase, and N-mineralization were investigated.
