Once you read it, you will know where I'm headed with this one.
"There!" the tall read head said as she slammed the manilla envelope down on the glass top, just above where the knives were kept for display.
"What's this?" the older man said as he picked up the envelope to review the contents.
"Read it and tell me what you think." she said with a smile.
He read the papers that were contained inside and a smile formed on his face. "I think it's about damn time!" Neal said as he jumped over the counter and swooped his girlfriend up in his arms.
"Easy Grandpa. You're still on the clock." Jen said as she wiggled away from his embrace.
Neal frowned at the nickname that his girlfriend and her many friends had given him. True, he was much older than her, seventeen years to be exact, but he was in no way old enough to be her Grandfather. "Grandpa heh? Well then you young whipersnapper, I might just have to take you overmy knee and give you a good whoopin'. How does that sound Turkey?"
Jen frowned at the nickname her boyfriend had given her ever since they had first started seeining each other. She hated it, but for some reason she could tolerate it when he said it. "Now I might enjoy that. Don't promise me anything."
Neal walked behind the counter and smiled. "But I do promise. Meet me at the house when I get off.You are going to have a very special evening."
Jen gathered up the papers decreeing she was now a divorced woman. "Ok tiger, but don't take all night. Don't want you up too late." Jen left Neal to finish his shift, so happy to finally be able to enjoy the spoils of her boyfriend without the reminder that she was still married legally to a deadbeat fugitive.

"How does dinner out tonight sound guys?" Neal said as hetalked to his kids on hislunch break. It was Friday, and Neal only had to work one of his two jobs. He also got to see his kids that evening, which always thrilled him.
"Sounds good Dad. Can we pick where?" his son asked eagerly.
"Well you know normally I would, but we are going to have company with us, and Chuck E. Cheese'sisn't what I had in mind.Hold on guys." Neal answered the beep on his phone. It was Jen.
"Oh, I thought I was going to get the voicemail." Jen said surprised that Neal had answered the phone.
"I'm talking to the kids. They want Chuck E. Cheese tonight."
"So take them to Chuck E. Cheese's. They will have a great time." Jen said, knowing herself that it was a good place to let kids run around and wind down.
"But you and Kiat were coming with us. I want you to meet the kids." Neal said excitedly.
"You want me to do what?" Jen said stunned.
"It's time my kids met the girl who makes me happy. Now that your divorce is finally over, things will be much smoother." Neal said, waiting for Jen to respond.
"Ok." Jen said withsome hesitance. "But i hate it when you spring big things on me."
"Last time." Neal said as he hung up the phone andreturned to his kids. "Ok, you guys get your wish."
"They left Alan. They got tired of waiting for you to come back. Sowho was it? Some girl?" his ex wife said with a huff.
"Actually, yes, Sarah. I want them to meet someone." Neal said with a hint of annoyance.
"You know you shouldn't be bringing in strange women into their lives like this." His ex was none too pleased about hearing he was in a relationship. She wanted him to be miserable for the rest of his life.
"I'm not like you. This is the first serious relationship I have had since we have been divorced. She means a lot to me, and I want the kids to know that. Now I will pick them up about 6. Have them ready, and no bullshit." Neal hung up the phone, satisfied that he had gotten the last word in.
................................................................
"Goodnight guys! Hope you had fun!" Jen shouted as Neal and the kids waled away to their truck.
"We did! Thank you Jen!" they shouted back.
"BYE!!" Kait, jen's daughter shouted, but the others were already out of earshot.
"Well? What do you think? Do you guys like her?" Neal asked as he drove the kids back to their mother's.
"I really liked her Daddy. She was nice." his daughter said excitedly.
"I did too Dad. You are happy with her, not like with Mom." his son said as they turned to go on to their street.
"Listen guys, your Mom will always be your Mom. But we don't get along anymore. And yes, Jen makes me happy." Neal was thrilled to know his kids liked Jen. That would make the next part so much easier.
........................
"So did they like me?" Jen asked as she and Neal ate lunch together.
"They loved you. Just as much as I do."
"Good I'm glad. I just wish Kait was old enough to understand the concept of boyfriend and girlfriend. But she does like you."
"That's good. Otherwise this next part might be difficult." neal said as he fumbled around in his pocket.
"What next part?" Jen asked, now getting creeped out.
"This." Neal pulled out a tiny ring and held it in front of Jen. "Marry me. Right now. We can pick up the kids and go get married right now. There is nothing stopping us."
Jen swallowed hard and looked at the diamond in his fingers. She could not believe it, but managed to answer him in a low voice.
"Ok."
The went and picked up the three kids and made it just in time to get in as the final couple for the day. They said their I do's and kissed. It finally happened that two people, whom were screwed with during their marriages, found the joy, love and happiness to start their lives over, with each other.
