| | NASHVILLE, Tenn. - U.S. Senator Sam Brownback announced today that he has enlisted the support of contemporary Christian singer and songwriter Michael W. Smith for his presidential campaign.Michael W. Smith is a renowned contemporary Christian songwriter and artist. He has produced eighteen albums, ten books, and has won both the Grammy and Dove awards.Senator Brownback is deeply honored to have earned Michael W. Smith's endorsement. "Michael W. Smith is an exceptional leader who has profoundly impacted the lives of millions of Americans with his positive and hopeful message. No one has done more for Christian music over the past twenty years," Brownback said.Brownback continued: "Michael will be a key leader in the presidential campaign and will be an outstanding surrogate in promoting my conservative agenda to respect all innocent life, uphold marriage as the union of one man and one woman, expand individual liberty, institute a flat tax, and protect our nation against the threat of terrorists and jihadists." LINKS DAILY DEVOTIONALA ministry of Links Players InternationalATTITUDE OF THE SPIRIT"Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and ifin anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that alsoto you; however, let us keep living by that same standard to which wehave attained." (Philippians 3:15-16, NASB)Out of all golfers throughout history, whom would you most emulate?Would it be Bobby Jones? Walter Hagen? Ben Hogan? Sam Snead? FredCouples? Jack Nicklaus? Tiger Woods?Regardless our individual choices, most people would say that theywant to copy the best. And though we may differ about who the "best"is, we all can agree that we do choose the greats because they inspireus to develop our talents. Their abilities attract our attention andmotivate us to improve our games. Now, how many of us can say that we have developed our talents to thelevel that we can tell others to emulate us? How many of us havewritten our own Golf My Way books?Probably not many of us. But we do not give up just because we havenot risen to that level. No, we continue the process to become as goodas we can in the amount of time we are given.Similarly in our Christian life, God calls us to His standard(perfection), and though we never achieve it He wants thisunattainable attribute to be our focus. Why? It is because God is glorified when our limitations become His provisions. In Philippians 3:3-21, Paul painted a picture of the echoes of God'sfaithfulness in his life and the "perfection of his spirit" throughthe provisions of Christ. We quickly see that if anyone can boast about their condition itshould be Paul, but yet we see how quickly Paul rebukes anything goodthat has come from him and strives for the things that come from God.Despite his trials, tribulations, miracles and healings, his focus wason "what lies ahead."Paul directed our focus to the King in a way that leaves no questionof what God requires: a "perfected attitude." If, as mature believers,we have this attitude we must keep it. If we do not stand in thisperfection, God will reveal our lack and perfect us in His timing. Therefore we may rest in God's plan, knowing that our attitude andmotivation will be developed by His inspiration in our lives--for amature believer understands that God's plan is ever unfolding. Smeltz ________________________________Daily Scripture Reading through the Bible in one yearJeremiah 28:1-29:321 Tim. 1:1-20 (KJV) Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God ourSaviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; [2] Unto Timothy,my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Fatherand Jesus Christ our Lord. [3] As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went intoMacedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no otherdoctrine, [4] Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is infaith: so do. [5] Now the end of the commandment is charity out of apure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: [6] Fromwhich some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; [7]Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what theysay, nor whereof they affirm. [8] But we know that the law is good, ifa man use it lawfully; [9] Knowing this, that the law is not made fora righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodlyand for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers andmurderers of mothers, for manslayers, [10] For whoremongers, for themthat defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, forperjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary tosound doctrine; [11] According to the glorious gospel of the blessedGod, which was committed to my trust. [12] And I thank Christ Jesusour Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; [13] Who was before a blasphemer, and apersecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did itignorantly in unbelief. [14] And the grace of our Lord was exceedingabundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. [15] This is afaithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus cameinto the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. [16] Howbeit forthis cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shewforth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafterbelieve on him to life everlasting. [17] Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for everand ever. Amen. [18] This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou bythem mightest war a good warfare; [19] Holding faith, and a goodconscience; which some having put away concerning faith have madeshipwreck: [20] Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I havedelivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme. Psalm 86:1-17 (KJV) A Prayer of David. Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I am poor and needy. [2]Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant thattrusteth in thee. [3] Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto theedaily. [4] Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, doI lift up my soul. [5] For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive;and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee. [6] Giveear, O Lord, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of mysupplications. [7] In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: forthou wilt answer me. [8] Among the gods there is none like unto thee,O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works. [9] Allnations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, OLord; and shall glorify thy name. [10] For thou art great, and doestwondrous things: thou art God alone. [11] Teach me thy way, O Lord; Iwill walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. [12] I willpraise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thyname for evermore. [13] For great is thy mercy toward me: and thouhast delivered my soul from the lowest hell. [14] O God, the proud arerisen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought aftermy soul; and have not set thee before them. [15] But thou, O Lord, arta God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteousin mercy and truth. [16] O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; givethy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid.[17] Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, andbe ashamed: because thou, Lord, hast holpen me, and comforted me. Proverbs 25:17 (KJV) Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary ofthee, and so hate thee. ________________________________DevotionalSEX AND SANDWICHES (1 Corinthians. 6:12–20)He was young. Good-looking. And he ardently challenged Billy Graham ina question/answer period after the evangelist's televised talk tocollege students. Why all this fuss about sex? If a person is hungry,he eats a ham sandwich, doesn't he? If he feels the urge, why not havesex and satisfy that hunger? The question, though I saw the program about 25 years ago, reflectsour society's blatant move toward pagan sexual standards. It alsoreflects the attitude of some Christians in Corinth, whom Paul quotedas he returned in these verses to the question of immorality."Everything is permissible for me," Paul himself said of food choices(v. 12; cf. Rom. 14:14). And "God will destroy" this sinful body andreplace it in the resurrection (1 Cor. 6:13). Why make such a big dealabout what a person does with this meaningless ol' body anyway? Paul's threefold response answered the question about sex andsandwiches as well as the Corinthians'. That casual pagan attitudetoward sex fails to see that the body is important. The body is meantfor the LORD, as a tool through which He performs righteous acts (v.13; cf. Rom. 6:16–18). The body is important enough that God hasdetermined to resurrect it (1 Cor. 6:13–14). The body is even nowjoined to Jesus Christ through our spiritual union with Him. Can wetake Christ to visit a prostitute? (vv. 15–17) In paganism, sex really is trivial. The casual attitude, theadolescent snickers, even the heated passion that constantly leersfrom movie screen and TV tube, all suggest that sex and sandwiches areon a par. Only Christianity affirms that life here on earth has moresignificance, and that our bodies were created for higher purposes. Our bodies are temples of God's Spirit. Our bodies are instrumentsfor His use. Our bodies—all we are and have—were bought with a price. We Christians are determined to use our bodies only to glorify Him.Personal Application Sex isn't trivial, because you and your body are special to the LORD.Quotable "Sex has become one of the most discussed subjects of modern times. The Victorians pretended it did not exist: the moderns pretend nothingelse exists." Fulton J. Sheen ________________________________Today's IllustrationYour Family Devotions Are ImportantTwelve convincing reasons for having family devotions:It unifies the family and sweetens home life. It cultivates the Christian graces and relieves tension andmisunderstanding that sometimes threaten the fellowship of the home. It aids our boys and girls in becoming Christians, and helps them todevelop ideals that guide them in vital Christian living. It yields spiritual resources for daily tasks and assists us incultivating dependence upon God. It strengthens us in the face of adversities and disappointments andenables us to trust Christ implicitly in all of life's circumstances. It makes us conscious during the day of the abiding presence of ourSavior and Frie nd. It bears a Christian witness to the guests in our home. It under girds the Christian teaching of the Sunday School and theministry of the church. It affords opportunity for the Christian family to pray for and tosharpen its concern for non-Christian families. It helps us to give a right place to spiritual values and saves usfrom an undue concern for the temporal things of life. It encourages us to put Christianity into practice in our homes. It honors God and provides an excellent outlet for the expression ofour gratitude for the abundance of daily mercies and blessings whichcome from Him. ________________________________ THIS ONE IS FABULOUS!!! It was written by an 8-year-old named DannyDutton, who lives in Chula Vista, CA. He wrote it for his third gradehomework assignment, to "explain God". I wonder if any of us couldhave done as well? EXPLANATION OF GOD: "One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replacethe ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care ofthings on earth. He doesn't make grownups, just babies. I thinkbecause they are smaller and easier to make. That way he doesn't haveto take up his valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He canjust leave that to mothers and fathers." "God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awfullot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times beside bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to theradio or TV because of this. Because he hears everything, there mustbe a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a wayto turn it off." "God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere whichkeeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting his time by goingover your mom and dad's head asking for something they said youcouldn't have." "Atheists are people who don't believe in God. Idon't think there are any in Chula Vista. At least there aren't anywho come to our church." "Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work, like walkingon water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people whodidn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of himpreaching to them and they crucified him But he was good and kind, like his father, and he told his father that they didn't know whatthey were doing and to forgive them and God said O.K." "His dad (God) appreciated everything that he had done and all hishard work on earth so he told him he didn't have to go out on the roadanymore. He could stay in heaven. So he did. And now he helps his dadout by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important forGod to take care of and which ones he can take care of himself withouthaving to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important." "You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you becausethey got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time." "Youshould always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, andif there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God! Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun likegoing to the beach. This is wrong. And besides the sun doesn't comeout at the beach until noon anyway." "If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will bevery lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, liketo camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you'rescared, in the dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown intoreal deep water by big kids." "But.. you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. Ifigure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases. And...that's why I believe in God." ________________________________ ________________________________Your Support is AppreciatedAs all of you know we are a faith based ministry. She feels that a spot of theking's blood has been splashed on her hand, and it rivets her attention.Often we Christians respond a little like Lady Mac Beth when we discoverproblems in our church or home. We almost compulsively focus on the problem, talking about it constantly, going over each detail again and again. Likethe dear lady, we feel deep frustration, and the more we talk, the moreserious the problem appears.I'm not suggesting that you or I should avoid facing problems. Not atall. We should look honestly at things that need to be corrected, inour personallives, in our families, and in our churches. But we should look at thempositively. We should look at them confidently, in the full assurance thatwe can resolve them successfully. In his Letter to the Corinthians Paul expressed confidence before he evenmentioned the first problem.►The Corinthians had been enriched by God's grace (vv. 4–6).►They had been enabled with a full complement of spiritual gifts (v. 7).►They had been strengthened by fellowship with Jesus Christ (vv. 8–9).Because of these matchless resources Paul was sure that the Corinthianscould face and overcome their many problems.Think about it.►Only after the Corinthians had been reminded of their resources in Christ(vv. 4–9),► Did Paul go on to discuss the problem (vv. 10–17).What a pattern for us to follow. Let's count up our spiritual assets inChrist. Then let's face our problems honestly, in the complete confidencethat together we can resolve them in His strength.*Personal Application*Looking to Jesus first gives perspective on our problems.*Quotable*"It is called the community of the saints because they have fellowship inholy things, yea, in those things whereby they are sanctified, that is inthe Father and the Son, who Himself sanctified them with all that He hadgiven them. Thus everything serveth to the betterment and building up ofone's neighbor and to the praise and glory of God the Father."*Menno Simmons* ------------------------------*Today's Illustration**What Is Faithfulness?*A shepherd once came to the city of Edinburgh from the country. He had hissmall obedient dog with him. While there, the man died and was buried. Thatlittle dog lay upon its master's grave-not for a day, a week, or a month, but for 12 years. Every day at one o'clock a gun was fired in the castle ofEdinburgh. When the gun was fired the dog would run to the local baker whogave it food and water. Then back to the grave it would go. This continuedtill the dog died 12 years later. That was faithfulness!A man threw a goose, which had been run over and crushed by a car, into anoil drum. For seven years the gander, that goose's mate, never went morethan ten feet away from that oil drum. That was faithfulness!George Mueller prayed for 52 years for a certain man to come to Christ. Apastor visited an elderly man 21 times before being admitted, but then hebefriended the man and led him to Christ. That was faithfulness!A Welsh postman had the British Empire Medal conferred upon him by QueenElizabeth; he had not missed a day's service in 43 years. Paul Dhrlick, thechemist, performed 605 unsuccessful experiments; the 606th was a success!Thomas Edison made 18,000 experiments before he perfected the arc light. After experiencing 50 failures on another project he said, "I have found 50ways it cannot be done!" That was faithfulness!During the Korean War a man buried himself in the muck and mud of a pig sty(except for his nose and mouth so he could breathe) for eight days andnights rather than betray his buddies and surrender to the enemy. That wasfaithfulness! Are you not glad that Jesus was faithful in dying for us and that He nowlives and is faithful to care for us? God grant us grace to be faithful! ------------------------------*Children Born out of wedlock**The Norm or the New Morality**By Dr. Dave Smeltz** * *Marital status:*[image: bullet graphic]The pregnancy rate for married women declined 12percent from 1990 through 1996-97, but has increased slightly since then;[image: bullet graphic]The pregnancy rate for unmarried women hascontinuously declined through the 1990s;[image: bullet graphic]The abortion rate dropped by about 25 percent forboth married and unmarried women through the 1990s;[image: bullet graphic]*The birth rate for unmarried women is about half therate of married women;*[image: bullet graphic]The abortion rate for unmarried women is over fourtimes higher than that of married women;[image: bullet graphic]Looking at pregnancies among married women, three outof four ended in a live birth in 1999, and 7 percent ended in abortion;[image: bullet graphic]Among unmarried women about half the pregnanciesended in a live birth while about 40 percent ended in abortion. In 1990pregnancies among unmarried women were more likely to end in abortion thanin a live birth.Women are having fewer children, yet many children are being born outside ofmarriage. In 2000 that amounted to 1,345,000 children. The number ofchildren under 18 years of age living with two parents has decreased from 88percent in 1960 to 68 percent in 1997, and child poverty rates have risen.By 2000, some 20 percent of children were living in poverty. In 1997, 24percent of all children lived with their mothers only. This is substantiallyhigher than the 8 percent who did in 1960, and reflects both the increasesin single motherhood and the rising divorce rate. Because working womenstill earn substantially less than their male counterparts, and are lesslikely to be promoted, a rise in female-headed households means that morechildren are being raised in poverty. A minority of children lived withtheir fathers only, but again this rate has substantially increased. In1960, 1 percent of children lived with their fathers only, 37 years laterthis quadrupled to 4 percent. Another 4 percent lived elsewhere, either withgrandparents or other relatives. Large numbers of American children,815,000, lived with non-relatives in 1997, mostly in foster care. In 2000,83 percent of children living with a single parent lived with their mothersand 17 percent with their fathers. While the majority of children live withtwo parents, that percentage has been shrinking. The above facts I found on the internet under vital statistics. Are we inAmerica becoming an amoral society? I am afraid we are following thefootsteps of Rome before its fall. Even in the Bible in the book of Ezekielwe find that Israel continued in its sin until God responded with allowingthe ruthless Babylon to almost destroy the nation. Could it be that the manyacts of nature that we are seeing is God's response to a world that has lostits respect for Him? America has always set the example for Godliness withits Christian witness. Now this light that once was bright is becomingdimmer as we fall further into sin and separate ourselves from theJudo-Christians ethics we find in the Word of God. Abortion, homosexuality, loose living, giving in marriage-family values have been declining andstatistics are showing that the values that we once stood for are becomingthe past and a new morality is being established. The new generation that ispromoted by Hollywood is now not a thing of tomorrow but is of today. Whatwe once watched on the television twenty years ago was considered future isnow here. As a pastor, I am dealing with more people living together andhaving children out of wedlock than in all of the thirty plus years I havebeen in the ministry. It is hard to believe that young girls and boys arehaving pre-marital sex as young as ten and eleven years old. It seems to bethe goal of the young person to have sex. The use of condoms distributed byPlanned Parenthood and parents giving birth control to their daughters hashelped to decrease the number of pregnancies with teenagers but it has nothelped with the venereal disease that is overwhelming among the youth. Whereyou have both parents working you find children are making major decisionsat an early age. The youth of today are very outspoken and demanding becausethey lack the leadership of parents who are too busy working trying toprovide for the family. The local educator hands are tied by the ACLU andlimits on discipline. Families are afraid to discipline there child for fearof Social Service will intervene and place the child in foster care. As apastor, and educator I am seeing more unruly children today than at anyother time in my life. Parents have come to me and asked, "Pastor what can Ido, I am afraid my child is going to get into trouble and I cannot controlthem." With the cost of living going up and new regulations and a newmorality I fear where we will be in ten years. I remember when I was abouttwelve years old I went to see a movie that I believe was called "In theyear 2010". The movie portrayed a generation of people who were left overafter a horrendous war that destroyed two-thirds of the earth. These peoplewere totally out of control. What is so interesting is that the vastmajority were tattooed over the majority of their bodies and they werekilling one another to survive. What parents and grandparents once thoughtwas so wrong has today become the now and is accepted by society. Thegeneration that I grew up in was known as the Love Child generation, ageneration of rebellion due to the Vietnam War and a generation of free loveand lack of respect for God and family values. Could it be that we haveproduced a generation of children so rebellious and so opinionated that theywill destroy themselves among themselves? Could it be that as Christians weare seeing the end of times and the ushering in of the Second Coming ofChrist.* 2Ti 3:1-5 This know also, that in the last days perilous timesshall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Withoutnatural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers ofpleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denyingthe power thereof: from such turn away. * ------------------------------*The information contained in this document is an compilation of materialsand points gathered by the writer. * Today's VerseIf we live, we live to the Lord: and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.--Romans 4:8THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE...One of the incredible realizations we can have as Christiansis that our relationship with the Lord can be eternal. As longas we seek after him, he is always there and no one canseparate us from his love. Even when we die, we go to be withthe Lord. When we sleep in death, we are still "in the Lord."Everything we have on earth is temporary except our love forthe Lord Jesus and those with whom we share that love!MY PRAYER...Almighty God, thank you so much for binding yourself to ourworld in Jesus and binding me close to you through his Lordshipin my life. I look forward to the day when the Lord who Ikneel to worship today will be recognized by all the living andthe dead as the One True Lord. I pledge to you Father, that Iwill live this day to honor him and by honoring him, honor you.In his name I pray. If you say the way your were raised or what you were taught in school then your belief system could be faulty. God needs to be the basis for the principles you hold dear. His word is a sure guide through the difficult circumstances of life. In fact, God prepares you to face the future as you read and study His Word. When you are tuned into the Word of God, you are tapping into the infinite mind of Christ. The temptation to think that God is not personal or interested in what you are facing quickly fades. God's Word teaches us that He is actively involved in every aspect of our lives.Knowing that God eternally cares for you is a good place to start as you seek to build a strong spiritual foundation. Pastors and clergymen can teach you about the Lord and how to worship Him, but it is the Holy Spirit living within you that illuminates the truth of God to your heart. When we understand the principles of God's Word and begin to apply them to our lives, our vision changes. We see things from God's perspective and are more willing to trust Him with the entirety of our lives. Some say the Bible is difficult to understand. However, if you will begin to read through its contents, God will help you understand His truth and principles.--Charles StanleyTags:devotionals Spoken by Jesus: "...whoever wants to save his life will loseit, but whoever loses his life for me will find it."--Matthew 16:25THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE...The key to life is letting go of ourselves and receivingJesus. We all make mistakes, and God gave us the ultimate reprieve when He sent His Son to die for our every sin. Parents often try to smooth over their own perceived failures by living vicariously through their children. They want a better life for their children so badly that they place unrealistic expectations on them. The parent no doubt loves the child, but the parent still is violating, probably unintentionally, God's command for fathers (and all parents) not to provoke their child to anger. Often we think of anger only in its most visible manifestations. Yet the most prevalent anger in many children is a hidden, seething discontent caused by demanding, unrealistic parents.A child who can never please a parent will think, "I don't measure up." If the father is the instigator, the child almost certainly will develop a warped perception of God. The child will think she can never please God -- Someone greater than even her father -- so why try?Whether or not you have been an overbearing parent, ask God to help you love your children just as they are and as unconditionally as God loved you in sacrificing Jesus. Instead of planning your children's lives, remind them that God has a plan for them. Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing: be cleansed." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. (vs 2-3) One subject which stirs up controversy almost as much as "tongues" is "healing." The "gifts" of healing. There are those who claim that it's God's will for "all people" to be healthy and wealthy. And at the opposite end of the pendulum are those that don't believe God heals today. Both extremes are in error. There are some interesting things we can come to understand from this passage. This series is the "teachings" of Jesus. If we understand the concept "let us not love in WORD or in TONGUE, but in DEED and in TRUTH" (1 John 3:18) ...that speaking "words" is not the only method of imparting truth, that showing "by example" is often more effective, we find ourselves looking at what Jesus "did" as well as "spoke," to learn His teachings. He has just spent "three chapters" speaking on the mount. Now He is coming off the mountain, demonstrating that which He has been speaking. Being a "doer of the word."(James1:22) First of all, when God heals, He does so "willingly." Jesus answers the leper, "I am willing." When the centurion came to him about his servant, he comes, explaining the plight. And before he even gets to the part where he would say, "Will you please heal him?" Jesus is already volunteering, "I will come and heal him."(vs7) As if to say, "OK, let's go..lead the way." When He enters Peter's house where his mother-in-law is sick, He doesn't wait for a request, He simply "touched her hand, and the fever left her."(vs15) He saw the need, and acted. "It shall come to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear." (Isa65:24) Later in the evening He was casting out demons "with a word." And He healed "all" the sick people who came to Him.(vs16) Jesus had come, not only to "[bear] our sins in His own body on the tree"(1Pt2:24) but also to bear the burden of the "symptoms" of sin, "our griefs and..our sorrows" as it is "by His stripes we are healed"(Is53:4-5) of our sin as well as the results of sin. As we perhaps recall the studies in James 5, that the prayer for a "sick" person results in that person's "salvation" and cleansing from sin. People in Jesus' day understood well the relationship between sin and sickness. As He would say to a sick person, "your sins are forgiven."(Mt9:2) As they asked, "who sinned, this man or his parents that he was born blind?"(John9:2) If we understand the passage that He is "not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance"(2Pt3:9) we would also understand that it is not His will (or "desire") for anybody to be sick, either. But then, we equally understand that sickness is one of the results of sin, as begun in Genesis 3. And if a person continues to rebel against God, they cannot expect God's healing upon them. And here we come to "attitude." When the leper came to Jesus, he did not come "naming and claiming." He "came and worshiped."(vs2) "Worship" is not the act of standing up, wiggling around to sensuous music and raising ones hands. Rather, when one worships the Lord, he comes and "bow[s] down" and "kneel[s] before the LORD our Maker."(Psalms 95:6) In these cultures when a person came bowing prostrate, it was with the attitude "that I may find favor in your site, my Lord.."(2Sam 16:4) And so, the leper came, making a "request." Not a demand, as we usually see in (so-called) "healing" services. Jesus said, "if you ask..in My name."(John 14:13) And John clarified, "according to His will."(1 John 5:14) In the leper's request was an "unspoken understanding." Quite possibly he had sinned and incurred his illness..? (see: Numbers 12:10, 2Kg5:27, 15:5) And he had had a while to consider the consequences of his sin. No doubt, realizing his "unworthiness" to receive cleansing. Hardly "daring" to even be in the "presence" of one such as Jesus! When he was healed, Jesus instructs him to go make the appropriate sacrifices.(vs 4) The whole sacrificial system was in anticipation of Jesus' Own death which would ultimately pay for "sin."(1Pt 2:24) And He tells the man, "see that you tell no one.." This is not something to boast of. There was sin. The sin has been cleansed away. Now, go make the appropriate offering... for sin. And then, we come to the "faith to be healed" (Acts 14:9) concept. Jesus has offered to "go to" the Centurion's house to heal the servant. And immediately the commander humbly illustrates his own "unworthiness" to even have Jesus come under the roof of his house.(vs8) Understanding Jesus' "authority" to be able to just have the matter "taken care of" through the "chain of command." He understood that words did not need to be recited, nor special "wands" waved. That, if Jesus could heal, He could do it from "anywhere." Jesus says, "as you have believed, so let it be done for you."(vs13) And people take this sentence, and teach a doctrine that says the sick person must have "enough faith" to be healed. That, if somebody prays "over them" and they remain sick, it was because the sick person didn't have enough faith. But you notice something. Remember..? Jesus is "willing" to heal.(vs3) Jesus was saying to him "let's go..I'll do it" BEFORE there was any indication of "how much" faith he had. Jesus expresses the man's "faith" as an explanation of the conversation which just transpired. Because, even faith, itself, is a "gift of God."(Ephesians 2:8) People who think they must have "enough faith" are not truly believing in God and His ability to heal. Somehow, they must "help God along" with their own faith. But it must be like the man who cried out, "Lord I believe; help my unbelief!" (Mk 9:24) So.. how does healing take place? How does one cast out evil spirits from people? I've seen video's of Bob Larson having these long, extended conversations with demons, "negotiating" with them. Taking hours to finally "convince" the demons to leave a person. What would you guess those demons were absolutely rolling around in laughter over such nonsense? Or; there are those who believe certain rituals and paraphernalia are necessary in order to effect "exorcisms." What did Jesus do? "With a word"(vs 16) "Go." (vs 32) the spirits were gone. How does satan leave? when we say, "Go!" Earlier Jesus had said, "Away with you!"(Mt 4:10) "Be gone!" "Get out of here!" We are told, "resist the devil and he will flee from you."(James 4:7) Any "exorcism" is going to happen in the same manner. But it is with Jesus' "authority." (Acts 19:13-17) And finally, when it was "Jesus" who was doing the healing, you will notice that "all" were healed.(vs 16) And He did it right the first time. "And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak." (Mk 7:37) Mark this well. If someone claims to have the "gift of healing" and they are doing so "in Jesus' name," then "all" those they "heal" had better be truly healed. If they are not, you know it wasn't Jesus who did the "healing." And if it wasn't Jesus, there is only one other source it could have been.(2 Corinthians 11:13-15) And remember that he, too, has the ability to do "signs and wonders" to deceive. (2 Theselonians 2:9, Mt24:24) As we know that even now there are "many Antichrist's." (1 John 2:18) When Jesus ministered healing, He did not amass fortunes at the expense of His followers. "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich." (2 Corinthians 8:9) And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. I felt that my complaining was usually justified. After all, who needs pain and frustration? I certainly didn't, I thought. But God thought differently. The Lord knew that I needed to change and grow spiritually. In Romans 5:3-4, Paul taught that life's predicaments can produce godly character in us. Our complaining hinders God's work. Here are some suggestions for overcoming a complaining attitude:Remember that your troubles did not take God by surprise. He is still in control.Believe that God has a solution, a provision, or a gift of wisdom to match your difficulty.Pray, affirming your faith in God and expressing your confidence in His loving purpose for you.Wait with expectancy and availability, trusting God to work out His perfect will.Praise Him--even before He acts. This alternative to complaining gives God an opportunity to work creatively, both in us and in our circumstances. Best of all, even if circumstances don't change, He uses them to change us. I recommend it! --JEYLittle things that fret and try us,Causing murmur and complaint,If but borne as He intended,Are the makings of a saint. --MeadowsDon't complain about thorns among roses; be grateful for roses among thorns.Tags:devotionals "He shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord."- Micah 5:4Christ's reign in his Church is that of a shepherd-king. He hassupremacy, but it is the superiority of a wise and tendershepherd over his needy and loving flock; he commands andreceives obedience, but it is the willing obedience of thewell-cared-for sheep, rendered joyfully to their belovedShepherd, whose voice they know so well. He rules by the force oflove and the energy of goodness. His reign is practical in its character. It is said, "He shallstand and feed." The great Head of the Church is actively engagedin providing for his people. He does not sit down upon the throne in empty state, or hold ascepter without wielding it in government. No, he stands andfeeds. The expression "feed," in the original, is like ananalogous one in the Greek, which means to shepherding, to doeverything expected of a shepherd: to guide, to watch, topreserve, to restore, to tend, as well as to feed. His reign is continual in its duration. It is said, "He shallstand and feed"; not "He shall feed now and then, and leave hisposition"; not, "He shall one day grant a revival, and then nextday leave his Church to barrenness." His eyes never slumber, andhis hands never rest; his heart never ceases to beat with love, and his shoulders are never weary of carrying his people'sburdens. His reign is effectually powerful in its action; "He shall feedin the strength of Jehovah." Wherever Christ is, there is God;and whatever Christ does is the act of the Most High. Oh! it is ajoyful truth to consider that he who stands to-day representingthe interests of his people is very God of very God, to whomevery knee shall bow.Happy are we who belong to such a shepherd, whose humanitycommunes with us, and whose divinity protects us. Let us worshipand bow down before him as the people of his pasture.Tags:devotionals "Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: forthou art my strength."- Psalm 31:4Our spiritual foes are of the serpent's brood, and seek toensnare us by subtlety. She informed me that she was embroidering. As from the underside, I watched her work within the boundaries of the little round hoop that she held in her hand, I complained to her that it sure looked messy from where I sat. She would smile at me, look down and gently say, "My son, you go about your playing for awhile, and when I am finished with my embroidering, I will put you on my knee and let you see it from my side." I would wonder why she was using some dark threads along with the bright ones and why they seemed so jumbled from my view. A few minutes would pass and then I would hear Mother's voice say, "Son, come and sit on my knee." This I did only to be surprised and thrilled to see a beautiful flower or a sunset. I could not believe it, because from underneath it looked so messy Then Mother would say to me, "My son, from underneath it did look messy and jumbled, but you did not realize that there was a pre-drawn plan on the top. It was a design. I was only following it. Now look at it from my side and you will see what I was doing." Many times through the years I have looked up to my Heavenly Father and said, "Father, what are You doing?" He has answered, "I am embroidering your life." I say, "But it looks like a mess to me. It seems so jumbled. The threads seem so dark. Why can't they all be bright?" The Father seems to tell me, "'My child, you go about your business of doing My business, and one day I will bring you to Heaven and put you on My knee and you will see the plan from My side." As I got a little closer the door come open wide, and when I came to myself I was standing inside. I saw a host of angels. They were standing everywhere. One handed me a basket and said my child shop with care. Everything a Christian needed was in the Grocery store. And all you couldn't carry, you could come back for more. First I got some Patience, Love was in the same row. Further down was Understanding, you need that everywhere you go. I got a box or two of Wisdom, a bag or two of the Holy Spirit for it was all over the place. I stopped to get some Strength and Courage to help me run the race, by then my basket was getting full, but I remembered I needed some Grace. I didn't forget Salvation, for salvation, that was free so, I tried to get enough for that to save both you and me. Then I started up to the counter to pay my grocery bill, fro I thought I has everything to do my Master's will. As I went up th aisle I saw Prayer and I just has to put that in, for I knew when I stepped outside, I would run right into sin. Peace and Joy were plentiful, they were on the last shelf. Song and Praises were hanging near so I just helped myself. Then, I said to the Angel, now how much do I owe? He just smiled and said, "Just Take Them Everywhere You Go." Again, I smiled at him and said, How Much Do I Really Owe? He smiled again and said, "My Child, Jesus Paid Your Bill A Long Time Ago!"Tags:inspirational poems Dear God:So far today I have done all right.I have not gossiped.I have not lost my temper.I have not
