Johannesburg, South Africa (ADV) – “Leading Ladies”, a short animated Zambian Podcast web series telling stories of the country’s women who held significant leadership positions between the 17th and the 19th century, is set to feature at the Women’s History Museum of Zambia from today, Lusaka Times reported.

African Daily Voice understands that the animated podcast is a collaboration of the Women’s History Museum and the Hivos Southern Africa Region. It is expected to include stories of women from all the Zambia’s 10 provinces.

The stories were sourced from the documents of the National Archives of Zambia, and written by the museum co-founders, Mulenga Kapwepwe and Samba Yonga who also produced the podcast.

The podcast titles include: “The General”, “The Innovator”, “The Feminist”, “The Warrior”, “The Secretary of State”, “The Diplomat”, “The Peacemaker”, “The Head of State”, “The Politician” and the “The Power Broker”.

Kapwepwe said the stories challenge the idea that, in the past, women were not capable of being leaders or contributing significantly to our societies, adding that the plan is to also have the animated podcast as a travelling exhibition that can be shared on many platforms including radio and television locally and internationally.

“The aim of the series is to highlight and mainstream these stories so Zambia’s historical narrative gains new knowledge and perceptions of women are influenced positively”, added Yonga.

The Women’s History Museum of Zambia was set up to document and revive narratives of African history with a specific focus on women. Its mandates include researching and restoring of African indigenous knowledge and living histories focused on women.
