I thought I'd pass on these two links:A huge resource for Santeria/afro-cuban folkloric music:http://furius.ca/santeriadb/The most hugely comprehensive site on Cuban music I've ever seen:http://gislab.fiu.edu/smc/discography.htmlI've been looking for some Santeria music on soulseek, but so far have only been able to locate a Tito Puente album, Top Percussion, which seems to be true to the spirit. I've got some more stuff queued up (Yuri Beunaventura? Anyone heard of this artist?) but seem to be striking out. Anyone have some suggestions of said type of music, or Bata drums?ThanksTraci

[ **mood** | giddy ] I have a question. For those of you living in America, have you ever found a way to visit Cuba? As far as I know, it's illegal, but somebody told me you can go through another country or something, but wouldn't that be illegal as well? What's the deal with all of this? All the information I have found online is conflicted and contradictory.Thank you in advance,Micaelax-posted in everythingcuba

[ **mood** | curiosa ] Hey, I'm Micaela. I'm not Cuban (I'm Castillian Spanish), but I'm fascinated with Cuban culture. Hope I'll be accepted here. I'm 16 and live in the Midwest. I hope to learn more about this aspect of Cuba and all that. I'm bad with intros, sorry. :D Come join everythingcuba . It's a new community and I'm sure that the addition of some Afro-Cuban people and their knowledge would really be cool for this communidad. Gracias, Micaela

If any of you are on Myspace you should check out a salsa band called Orquesta Tabaco Y Ron from Baldwin Park, CA. They have a really good sound, one of the best I've heard. They also have a website.

Hello! [13 Nov 2004|09:38pm]
I am the other half of the new mod-team, and I just wanted to follow in saying hi.This community has been pretty inactive lately -- please post any ideas you have to liven it up again! Also: ****SAN DIEGO SCENE****If you are in or near or ever visit San Diego -- make your way down to Cafe Korova on Park Blvd, just North of El Cajon Blvd on THURSDAY NIGHTS FROM 8-11pm (coffee happy hour til 9pm)There you will find an always changing assortment of musicians with certain regulars who jam latin sounds (they play quite a few traditional cuban songs) and it's pretty much guaranteed to be incredible. And it's free. Tips accepted. And no I'm not a musician pluggin my own show. I'm just a regular.Hope to see you there if you are in the area!

Hello, I am doing a survey on Afro-Cuban music for my music class, and I was hoping this community could help me out. I have four questions.1)Why do you like Afro-Cuban music?2)How do you feel when you listen to Afro-Cuban music?3)In what context do you listen to the music (home, club, with family, friends)?4) Have you been to a live performance? If so, how was the experience?Any help would be great. And I will be using the answers in a research paper, just to let you know exactly I will be using the information. Thank you for your help.
