Social media plays an important role in the lives of refugees. In this study, we explored social ... more Social media plays an important role in the lives of refugees. In this study, we explored social media usage among Turkish refugees and asylum seekers settled in Norway. The relationship between social media usage and demographic variables has been examined. An online survey was used for data collection. The most commonly used social media platforms among participants are WhatsApp, YouTube, and Facebook. Among demographic variables, only age was found to have a significant relationship with social media use among participants. A significant negative correlation was detected between age and social media use.

The gender gap in internet use and online shopping is investigated using the results of annual national surveys on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Usage in Households and by Individuals by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The study results reveal that females in Turkey tend to be on the wrong side of the digital divide. Even though internet use has increased over the years in the Turkish population, there remains a significant and persistent gap between females and males in internet use and online shopping. It is also found that there are differences between females and males in the purpose of internet use and the type of goods purchased online.

Like in many developed countries, the aging population presents a major challenge for Norway. Lif... more Like in many developed countries, the aging population presents a major challenge for Norway. Life expectancy in the Norwegian population has increased, and the proportion of older people is expected to increase. Since the use of internet-based technologies in healthcare is increasing, it is very important for older adults to use the internet in order to benefit from these technologies. The main aim of this study is to explore health-related internet use among older people in Norway by using national survey results of ICT usage in households. Survey results show that general internet use and health-related internet use have been increased among older Norwegian population. The most common purpose for health-related internet use among older people was seeking health-related information and the least common purpose was other health services online. Even though the rate of internet use among older people in Norway is higher than in many developed countries, the results show that there exist age-based differences in health-related internet use.

Design/methodology/approach This study examines the results of an online survey of undergraduate IS students at a public university in Norway. An online survey was used to collect the data from undergraduate students who enrolled in an introductory IS course. T-test was used to test the differences between male and female students. Findings The results identified that career-related factors such as job availability and job security were the two most prominent factors for both male and female students to choose IS. The results also show that male and female students have essentially similar motivations to choose IS. This paper explores the characteristics and factors contributing to the gender digital divide. To bridge the gender digital divide, it is important to understand the factors behind gender differences in ICT access and use. Design/methodology/approach In this study, the systematic literature review was conducted in accordance with the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) approach. In total, 24 articles were selected and analysed with using PRISMA steps. Even though the diffusion of the internet has rapidly increased worldwide, the digital divide between young and elderly people is still present, particularly in the developing countries. The aim of this study is to explore age-based digital divide in the Turkish population. Although the number of internet users has increased among the older population over time, a prominent digital divide remains between younger and older people in the Turkish population.

In this study, we explored the differences between students in IS and other disciplines in their ... more In this study, we explored the differences between students in IS and other disciplines in their perceptions of factors influencing study program choice. A quantitative research approach was employed. We used an online survey for data collection. Data was collected in a Norwegian public university in the Fall semester of 2021. The findings from this study showed that the factors that most influence students' choice of study program are career-related. The most influencing factor for students in choosing a study program was identified as job availability, followed by job security, career opportunities, and interesting work assignments. Significant differences were found between students in IS and other disciplines in the following five factors influencing study program choice: job security, opportunity to be innovative, personal skills, ease of study topics, and performance in high school subject matter courses.

Findings: The most indicated reason by the respondents for not choosing to study Information Systems was “little or no knowledge about IS”, followed by “lack of interest in the IS field.” Job availability was identified as the most motivating fac-tor for the participant students in choosing to study their programs at the university. The participants of this study did not consider Information Systems as easy to study.

One of the most necessary elements in achieving logistical competitive advantage is the management of inventory efficiently. This is possible only by using contemporary knowledge and technology for inventory management.In this research, factors affecting information and technology usage for inventory management in SMEs have been investigated. A quantitative research approach was employed. We used an online survey for data collection. Data was collected in a Norwegian public university in the Fall semester of 2021. The findings from this study showed that the factors that most influence students' choice of study program are career-related. The most influencing factor for students in choosing a study program was identified as job availability, followed by job security, career opportunities, and interesting work assignments. Significant differences were found between students in IS and other disciplines in the following five factors influencing study program choice: job security, opportunity to be innovative, personal skills, ease of study topics, and performance in high school subject matter courses.

Background: Demand for information technology (IT) and information systems (IS) employees and managers has been increased, with the widespread use of information technologies. IT skills shortage is a concern for industries and higher education institutions. The findings of this study can help understanding why students do not choose to study Information Systems. Methodology: This study used an online survey for data collection. The survey link was emailed to 609 undergraduate students at the University of Agder in Kristian-sand, Norway. 62 useable responses were used for analysis. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and t-test were used for data analysis. Contribution: This study provides the results of a survey exploring why students do not choose to study Information Systems at a Norwegian university. Findings: The most indicated reason by the respondents for not choosing to study Information Systems was “little or no knowledge about IS”, followed by “lack of interest in the IS field.” Job availability was identified as the most motivating fac-tor for the participant students in choosing to study their programs at the university. The participants of this study did not consider Information Systems as easy to study.

The gender gap in internet use and online shopping was investigated using the results of annual national surveys on information and communication technology (ICT) usage in households and by individuals by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The study results reveal that females in Turkey tend to be on the wrong side of the digital divide. Even though internet use has increased over the years in the Turkish population, there remains a significant and persistent gap between females and males in internet use and online shopping. It is also found that there are differences between females and males in the purpose of internet use and the type of goods purchased online.

Like in many developed countries, the aging population presents a major challenge for Norway. Lif... more Like in many developed countries, the aging population presents a major challenge for Norway. Life expectancy in the Norwegian population has increased, and the proportion of older people is expected to increase. Since the use of internet-based technologies in healthcare is increasing, it is very important for older adults to use the internet in order to benefit from these technologies. The main aim of this study is to explore health-related internet use among older people in Norway by using national survey results of ICT usage in households. Survey results show that general internet use and health-related internet use have been increased among older Norwegian population. The most common purpose for health-related internet use among older people was seeking health-related information and the least common purpose was other health services online. Even though the rate of internet use among older people in Norway is higher than in many developed countries, the results show that there exist age-based differences in health-related internet use.

The underrepresentation of females in information technology-related professions and in study pro... more The underrepresentation of females in information technology-related professions and in study programs is well known. Even in countries like Norway, being recognized as one of the most gender-equal countries in the world, women's representation in information technologyrelated fields is particularly low. In this study, we explore the potential differences between female and male students in motivations for choosing Information Systems (IS) study program at the University of Agder, given the low number of female student admission. We used an online survey of university students enrolled in an introductory IS course. Preliminary results of the study show that motivating factors for female and male students are very similar in choosing IS. Career-related factors such as job availability and job security are the most motivating factors for students in their study decision.
