The authors referring to it argue that only religion can give meaning to human life and the world. A man who does not want to run away from ultimate questions is faced with an alternative: faith in God or nihilism. Among religions, however, there is one that rejects belief in God and in any transcendence, and yet claims to be a source of meaning in life for its adepts. This religion is Buddhism. In this study, an attempt was made to confront the theological argumentation "from the meaning of life and the world" with the Buddhist worldview. The aim of such a confrontation is to locate potential weak points of this type of argumentation, which can help refine it so that it is also convincing for people outside Western culture.

Traditionally, it was perceived according to the model of a harmonious relation between nature and grace: man is by nature unable to find fulfillment elsewhere than in supernatural communion with God. The ultimate goal of his nature is the supernatural goal, which is reflected in his "natural desire to see God" – the hidden driving force of his entire activity. This conviction, shared by both patristic and medieval theology, at the dawn ofmodernity undergoes profound transformation, and in time it becomes lost. The purpose of this study is to present these changes in understanding the finality of human nature on the example of two important representatives of early modern theology: Cardinal Kajetan and Martin Luther. The first of them, excessively succumbing to the influence of Aristotle's philosophy, introduced into theology a conceptof "pure nature", indifferent to any supernatural complement. The second, parting from the conviction about the total destruction of human nature by sin, in the place of harmony between human nature and its supernatural goal introduced the relation of a violent opposition. On the example of these two extremely different thinkers, one can observe how in modern theology takes place the destruction of the classical notion of finality and the separation between the supernatural goal and human nature with its internal dynamism.

The analysis carried out herein aims firstly to reconstruct a coherent anthropological vision from the fragments scattered in various works of this classic 20th-century theologian. Secondly, it aims to show that the vision of “tripartite anthropology” is still a valid response to contemporary attempts to reduce human existence to the body and psyche. In this context, particularly important is the paradoxical nature of the “spirit,” as shown in this study, which is understood as the sphere of human openness to transcendence: it represents both the coping and the center of human nature. Bringing to light this dual role of the “spirit-pneuma” within de Lubac’s theological anthropology is one of the significant results of the analysis presented in the text.

It analyzes the works in which de Lubac emphasizes the unity of these two fields of theology, referring primarily to the Fathers of the Church and to the thought of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. This article tries to show that these are not purely historical references, but an expression of de Lubac’s original reflection, which forms a coherent whole. This whole is reconstructed at the end of the article. In consequence, there might be seen a kind of “Western sophiology,” a theological synthesis in which the “feminine element” plays an important role, and the central, rather than peripheral, nature of the truths of faith concerning the Mother of God and the Church becomes visible.

changes have also afected apologetics. In view of exhaustion of the
former „textbook” apologetics, Catholic thinkers from the beginning
of the century tried to develop its new form, which would be able to
dialogue with contemporary intellectual currents. Among such thinkers,
French philosopher Maurice Blondel and Jesuit theologian Henri de
Lubac, who brought Blondel’s major intuitions to theology, occupy an
important place. Both were aware that the correct form of apologetics
depends on the correct formulation of the issue that is crucial for every
theology – the relationship of nature and grace. ,is study presents the
arguments that both thinkers put forward for the necessary change in
apologetics. A close connection between apologetics and the problem
of the relationship between human nature and the supernatural gi/
was also shown. In addition to the synthetic presentation of de Lubac’s
position, critical voices of modern theologians were cited, demanding
a rethinking of the whole issue, which in their opinion would enable the
further renewal of Catholic apologetics.

The French theologian, drawing his inspiration mainly from the Fathers of the Church, recovers the complete meaning of the adjective ‘Catholic,’ as containing in itself the true universality as well as the strictest unity. In his works he also tries to show that it is a multifaceted reality: the Church is Catholic in her social, historical and internal aspects. Only all three make up the full picture of her ‘catholicity.’ This study attempts to explain each of the three closely related aspects on the basis of a selection of de Lubac’s works. Although the French theologian does not belong to the most recent authors, it seems to us that his concept of the ‘three-dimensional’ character of Catholicism can help to develop the proper attitude of the Church towards today’s world – so that it will be possible to avoid both the loss of identity and the closed, sectarian mentality.
