The independent variable of this study being corporate social responsibility disclosure was proxied by philanthropic responsibility disclosure, community responsibility disclosure and environmental responsibility disclosure while the dependent variable of the study was weighted average cost of capital. The population of the study consisted of all the twenty-two and purposive sampling was adopted to select twenty listed consumer goods companies. Ex post facto research design was used, secondary data were employed, ordinary least square regression analysis technique was used in analyzing the data and the statistical package employed was SPSS version 20. The findings of this study revealed that philanthropic responsibility disclosure has a significant negative effect on weighted average cost of capital; Community responsibility disclosures has no a significant effect on weighted average cost of capital and environmental responsibility disclosure has a non-statistically significant effect on the weighted average cost of capital of listed consumer goods firms in Nigeria. Based on these findings, it was concluded that corporate social responsibility disclosures have significant effect on the weighted average cost of capital of listed consumer goods firms in Nigeria. Thus, it was recommended among others that firms should integrate their philanthropic activities into their core business strategies and engage more in such responsibilities as these signal to the world that they are socially responsible agents, thus improving investors' confidence and reduces their cost of capital.

Abolition has been the watchword under which initiatives proceed to eradicate the death penalty, human trafficking, nuclear weapons, the hegemony of Wall Street, prisons, police, the deportation of immigrants, and more. The essays in this forum examine nineteenth-century abolitionism’s complicated legacy through the prism of contemporary frameworks and agitations for justice and social transformation. The working papers reflect vital ongoing debates about abolition’s afterlives while meditating upon a series of pressing current concerns: migrant justice, the humanitarian rhetoric of some anti-racist initiatives, the activism of Erica Garner following the murder by police of her father, the racialization of madness and violence, the prison-abolition movement, and climate activism. A recent study indicates that, in addition to a student's major in college and the selectivity of an institution, better performance on an assessment of critical-thinking and written-communication skills is associated with higher rates of employment (Arum & Roksa, 2014). Since the financial crisis of 2008, greater emphasis has been given to college success and career-readiness because employers expect college graduates to possess writing, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills (Hart Research Associates, 2006, 2013, 2015) in response to the changing demands of available jobs (Autor, Levy, & Murname, 2003). Recently, that enthusiasm has dimmed as the available evidence suggests the subsequent reforms had a mixed record of implementation and efficacy. Even in districts where there was evidence of efficacy, the early promise of teacher evaluation may not be sustainable as these systems mature and change. This study examines the evolving design of IMPACT, the teacher evaluation system in the District of Columbia Public Schools. We describe the recent changes to IMPACT, which include higher performance standards for lower-performing teachers and a reduced emphasis on value-added test scores. Descriptive evidence on the dynamics of teacher retention and performance under this redesigned system indicates that lower-performing teachers are particularly likely to either leave or improve. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 15 children’s HCPs to explore perspectives on outdoor PA prescription programs for children and barriers to implementation. Thematic analytic techniques were used to analyze the data. Most participants reported an awareness of health benefits to children being in the outdoors. Ten themes emerged from the data related to 3 thematic categories: (1) current strategies that HCPs are using to promote PA among children, (2) barriers that HCPs see to prescribing outdoor PA, and (3) potential strategies for promoting outdoor PA among children. Assessment of the local outdoor PA environment and resource development must be done prior to a prescription program. Black Lives Matter (BLM), both the network and the movement, uses pro-Black technological and philosophical terminologies to hack anti-Black, Western, white supremacist binaries. Of central importance is deconstructing archaic conceptions of race, gender, and sexuality, and reimagining what "Black life" means in a world that does not love Black people. This political project calls into question "the politics of respectability," as coined by Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham, and teases out the complexities of "anti-Black racism," as popularized by Afro-Pessimists such as Frank Wilderson. 1 According to Alicia Garza, one of the three co-founders of BLM, Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes. It goes beyond the narrow nationalism that can be prevalent within some Black communities, which merely call on Black people to love Black, live Black and buy Black, keeping straight cis Black men in the front of the movement while our sisters, queer and trans* and disabled folk take up roles in the background or not at all. Black Lives Matter affirms the lives of Black queer and trans* folks, disabled folks, Black-undocumented folks, folks with records, women and all Black lives along the gender spectrum. It centers those that have been marginalized within Black liberation movements. It is a tactic to (re)build the Black liberation movement. 2

The first order of governance "deals with the day-today affairs" (Kooiman and Jentoft 2009, p 822). In the governance of the school system, first order governing is the responsibility of headteachers and other school managers, though other actors, for example trade union officials and teachers, could also engage in governing of this order. 2.2 8 Chapter 2: Significant themes in the literature on school governing The 'hidden givers': a study of school governing bodies in England 2. The second order of governance "focuses on the institutional arrangements within which first order governing takes place" (Kooiman and Jentoft 2009, p 822). The work of school governing bodies would be located in this order although of course other actors will have a role, for example the local authority and professional bodies. Moreover, almost all headteachers are members of their school's governing body. 3. The third order of governance "involves the organisation of the conditions for governance in its broadest sense" (Jessop 2003, p 107) and is the province of policy makers, typically in central government. The modes of governance. School governing is hierarchical because school governing bodies: • are responsible for the conduct of the school • delegate powers to their headteachers • are required to call the headteacher to account (A Guide to the Law for School Governors, 2009). But school governing is also co-governance where "societal parties join hands with a common purpose in mind" (Kooiman and Jentoft, 2009 p 823) because headteachers and other members of the staff are governors. We discuss below models of corporate governance which have a clear link with Kooiman and Jentoft's governance modes. The elements. In the interactive governance model, the elements can be used to characterise governing activities (Kooiman and Jentoft, 2009). Thus the governance work of governing bodies can be analysed through: • images, which constitute "the guiding lights" (p. 820) that underpin school governing activities and their rationales. What are the beliefs, knowledge in different forms, metaphors, assumptions, aims and purposes on which governing is based? • instruments, which mediate between images and actions. What are the influences on the design, choice and application of instruments? • governing actions, where the instruments are put into effect. What are the mundane actions required to implement policies? How are other actors motivated and mobilised to create new opportunities and effect social change? 2.2.3 Models of corporate governance In this section, we discuss some of the models of corporate governance that are relevant to this study. The principal-agent model is the dominant model of organisational governance. It originates from the 'professionalisation' of management and the consequent division between 'ownership' and 'operational control', and the potential conflicts of interest 2.2 9 10 Chapter 2: Significant themes in the literature on school governing 14 Chapter 2: Significant themes in the literature on school governing This view is supported by Dean et al. (2007) who report that governors in their study "felt happier offering support rather than challenge, and relied on heads to set strategic direction for the school." The workload of school governors Research on the workload of governing bodies reports a complex picture (PricewaterhouseCoopers, 2007; Ranson et al., 2005a). However, the overall message is relatively clear: governors have a high workload and show considerable commitment. Governing bodies tend to have a core of members who attend meetings 2.2 Chapter 3: The analysis of the survey data

This article compares the governing of publicly funded primary schools (for 5-11 year olds) and secondary schools (for 11-18 year olds). The research analysed policy documents and the governing of 16 primary and 14 secondary schools. The main governance mode for both primary schools and secondary schools is hierarchical and similar in nature, and the governing bodies of primary and secondary schools use broadly similar governing instruments. However, they differ in significant ways. In primary schools, governing is smaller in scale and less complex. Primary school governing is closer to the school and children, and the images held by governors of the system to be governed are better developed in primary schools. Functional knowledge was more useful in primary school governing, and the use of informal meetings as instruments of governance was more widespread in primary school governing. The findings and their implications need to be taken into account in the analysis of and policy making for school governing.

It explores racial bias expressed against and by African-American males seeking high office. In these campaigns, the convergence of racial uplift and multicultural democracy manifests in mandates against blackness represented as criminality and political incivility. Historically, US anti-black anima forged tropes of 'criminality' and 'incivility' that demonized blacks as unsuitable for full citizenship. Today, the new black candidates successfully deflect these tropes, in part, by redeploying them against non-elites, and anti-racist discourse and activism.

Stock price prediction has ignited the interest of researchers who strive to develop better predictive models with a fair degree of accuracy. The autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA)model introduced by Box and Jenkins in 1970has been in the limelight in econometrics literature for time series prediction, which has been at the core of explaining many economic and finance phenomena. ARIMA models in the research domain of finance and economics, especially stock markets, have shown an efficient capability to generate short-term forecasts and have hence been able to outperform complex structural models in short-term prediction. This paper presents a stock price predictive model using the ARIMA model to anal...

The concept of Single index model for pricing of assets has been widely used as a simple tool for... more The concept of Single index model for pricing of assets has been widely used as a simple tool for forecasting returns of individual securities in tune with the movements of a general market index. The Capital Asset Pricing Model, a footing based on the fact that the alpha component and the residual risk tends toward zero as the number of securities are increased, reduces the single-index model equation to the market return multiplied by the risky portfolio's beta. The fundamental analysis and technical analysis have been the pillar stones on which asset pricing was based. However, no attempts have been made so far to augment technicals to fundamentals of a security. The dual index model, proposed in this paper, attempts to augment fundamental factors affecting security prices, such as company, industry and economy factors into the technical framework of regressing excess return on individual security with the fundamentals as regressors. While the company factors are decomposed into the expected excess return of the individual stock due to firm-specific factors that is commonly denoted by its alpha coefficient (α) or intercept or predictor constant, the industry factors and economy factors represented by excess returns on sectoral index and market index respectively are assumed to additional predictors in the multi regression, where the excess returns on security returns is the predictand dependent variable. The effectiveness of the dual index model in precisely predicting returns, in the case of securities that are not constituents of the market index, is brought under the scanner and it has been conclusively evidenced that when sectoral index and market index are not highly correlated the dual index model is much superior to single index model in forecasting returns, be it forecast for a short period or long.

This essay argues that the possibilities of political transformation through struggles against imperialism and capitalism prefigure a revolutionary figure, that of the black cyborg rebel in search of freedom beyond “Third World” nation-state formation, predatory humanity, and technology as warfare.
