It also aimed to investigate whether teaching speaking via ECAs had a significant difference in aspects of speaking (pronunciation, fluency, grammar, and vocabulary). The participants of the study included 40 9th grade students from King Abdullah School for Excellence, at Irbid Directorate of Education, in Jordan, during the first semester of the academic year 2019/2020.
The participants of the study were two groups. Group one (20 students) was assigned as an experimental group which was taught by using ECAs. Group two (20 students) was selected as a control group and taught by using regular instruction. The speaking pre/post-tests examined the students' speaking skill. Pre/post tests and a questionnaire were administrated to assess the effect of using ECAs on EFL students’ speaking skill.
Students in both groups sat to a pre-test at the beginning of the semester to determine their actual speaking level. After eight weeks, the same test was used as a post-test to know their development. A questionnaire was administrated on the experimental group to measure students' attitude toward ECAs on their speaking skill.
The results revealed that both groups developed their speaking skill, but the experimental group could develop speaking skill more than the control group. The results of the study also showed that the experimental group students developed a lot in all aspects of speaking. The results of the students in vocabulary were the lowest results among other aspects of speaking (pronunciation, grammar and fluency). It also found that the experimental group had a great effect due to using ECAs in a learning/teaching the speaking skill in English.
