Now, where is this victimisation more glaring than in matters of education, employment and physical access. Disability is not all alone sometimes impairment and handicap were used interchangeably, but these terms have different meanings and describe different concepts. To promote appropriate use of these terms, in 1980 the World Health Organization established the international classification of impairment, disability and handicap, which define these concepts. Disability refers to an individual limitation or restriction of an activity as the result of impairment. Disability is a relative term in so far as different cultures define their norms of being and doing differently. Conceptions of disability are therefore highly contextual and subjective. Life is made difficult not so much by the individual’s medical condition, but mainly by a hostile physical and social environment that excludes disabled people from all spheres of social life. It is not the medical impairment, but the way in which society reacts to it, that excludes the disabled from taking part in the celebration, political decision-making or religious worship.

Our students are constantly on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and likely many sites we’re not hip enough to know about, and by reading this blog, you’re interacting with social media at this very moment. If you want to bring the “real world” into the classroom, consider integrating social media into your lessons. When used carefully, social media can be a useful tool rather than a distraction. A recent Edutopia blog post argues that using social media not only brings current technology to the classroom but also helps bridge the digital divide among lower-income students. Education-based sites such as Edmodo, Edublog, and Kidblog provide alternative social media sites for posting status updates and announcements, blogging, and microblogging. But even the commercialized sites can be useful for demonstrating social media to students.

"A collection of things to do around educational layout and execution of events and procedures meant to assist learning," for example, is how open educational practices represent. They also include creating, using, and repurposing Open Educational Resources (OER) and their adaptation to the context. We have a description of open educational practices and a collection of relevant dimensions in this paper. We explain how they were derived, based primarily on an extensive survey and OER case studies study. The article concentrates on three points: It begins by providing a working description of open educational practices and explains how a better understanding of OEP will improve educational quality and innovation. Second, it discusses how adopting more "accessible" strategies to educational practices could affect academic quality. Finally, the results are summarised, as well as how the various stakeholders affect open educational practices. The open-source group motivated the available education movement, which aimed to increase access to information through free, open content. The implicit aim was to provide fair access to the world's poor and advantaged populations – or, as MIT put it, to establish a "shared intellectual Common." The growing interest in MOOCs, open courseware, and particularly open textbooks propelled available education to new heights since its inception in the early 2000s; however, many instructors have never heard of open educational resources (OER) today. This chapter has provided a brief overview of OER's, why they use, and their movement. In the next chapter, we will review some items you should keep in mind when adopting or creating an OER for the first time.

The Indian Government in the Budget Speech 2017 had proposed to leverage Information Technology and launch the SWAYAM platform with at least 350 online courses. Subsequently the Honorable President of India launched SWAYAM on 9th July, 2017, an indigenous platform of the GOI designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. SWAYAM is a path-breaking initiative of the government aimed at providing quality education to large number of students pursuing higher education in our Universities and Colleges. The MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) courses on SWAYAM enable students to virtually attend the courses taught by the best faculty; access high quality reading resources; participate in discussion forums; take tests and earn academic grades. It is aimed at benefitting lifelong learners, students, teachers, researchers to use multimedia on anytime, anywhere basis for acquiring knowledge and skills. UGC feels that Universities can play a pivotal role in disseminating and popularizing the SWAYAM courses amongst its students in particular and the academic fraternity at large, thereby enabling a bigger and wider access to students avail the benefit of MOOCs. To take the SWAYAM initiative forward and encourage more and more HEIs to adopt the MOOCs courses on SWAYAM, the university nominated SWAYAM coordinators would act as a Single Point of Contact ( SPOC) for their university. Hence, it is need of the hour to study the online (swayam) course at this level. Thus, the researcher has taken a study in this title.
