Self-efficacy factors, however, have been of little concern in the Saudi literature. Objectives: to examine the association of smoking behavior with self-efficacy among secondary school students in Madinah City, Saudi Arabia. Methods: A secondary school-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Madinah City, Saudi Arabia during the study year 2019-2020. A cluster multistage random sampling technique was taken from 10 (5 male and 5 female) secondary schools. Smoking related data were collected using a predesigned structured self-administered questionnaire. Self-efficacy data were studied as a dichotomous variable according to its median distribution. The prevalence of current smokers was estimated and its association with self-efficacy levels was examined using logistic regression analysis. Results: The response rate was 91.6% (641/700). The prevalence of current smokers was 26.4% (95%CI = 23-30%). The prevalence showed statistically significant differences among adolescents by their sex, mother's education, and parents' and friends' smoking. The mean selfefficacy was slightly lower in current smokers 27.5 (5.9) vs. 27.8 (5.6). The likelihood to quit smoking was significantly higher among male smokers (adjusted OR = 3.5; 95%CI = 1.23-9.90) with high selfefficacy. The likelihood to start smoking among non-smokers was reduced by 35% among males and 30% among females, although not significantly. Conclusions: Self-efficacy was found to influence smoking behavior among Saudi adolescents. The study suggests the 134 need to encourage adolescents' self-efficacy in the preventive and smoking cessation program in Madinah City.

The study aimed to investigate the association between beliefs and attitudes and the risk of adolescent smoking. Materials and Methods: In a school-based cross-sectional study, 3,400 students were recruited from 34 intermediate and secondary schools in Madinah City, Al Madinah Region, Saudi Arabia. Data about sociodemographics, smoking-related factors, and beliefs and attitudes toward smoking were collected using a valid and reliable self-administered questionnaire. Prevalence of smoking was estimated and the studied beliefs and attitudes were compared by smoking status and sex using appropriate statistical analyses including multivariate logistic regression. Results: Of the 3,322 respondents, 33.02% (38.9% males and 26.4% females) were current smokers. There are few publications on that issue, particularly in rural Egypt. The present cross-sectional study aimed to assess the prevalence of warts of hands in rural primary school children and to examine some risk factors associated with warts in these children. The study examined 1833 children from 15 rural primary schools in Dakahlia governorate, Egypt, for the presence of warts. Data about sociodemographic, lifestyle, and environmental factors were collected. Prevalence of warts was estimated. Appropriate statistical analyses including multivariate logistic regression were done. The prevalence of warts of hands in the studied children was 2.3% (1.3-3.3%) with no significant sex difference. The risk of warts increased significantly in children reported swimming in Nile channels (adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 5.6; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 2.9-10.6) and child labor (adjusted OR = 4.5; 95% CI = 2.3-8.8). A ninety percent risk reduction was observed in children with educated parents. The study findings demonstrated a significant increase in the risk of warts among rural children reported swimming in Nile channels and child labor. Parents' education, on the other hand, was found to play an important role in risk reduction.

A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2013 among 3400 students from 34 intermediate and secondary schools in Madinah City, Saudi Arabia. Data about sociodemographic and smoking-related factors and SHS exposure were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Results. Of the 3210 students analyzed, the prevalence of SHS exposure was 32.7% 49.3%, and 25% inside, outside, and both inside and outside the home, respectively. The risk of SHS, however, was lower among adolescents having knowledge about smoking and highly educated parents. Conclusion. The study revealed a considerably high prevalence of SHS both inside and outside the home among adolescents. Knowledge and beliefs about SHS exposure are the main preventable approach.

Second-hand smoke (SHS) is an important public health problem worldwide. The study aimed to estimate the prevalence of SHS exposure and its associated risk factors among intermediate and secondary school students. Methods. The highest risk of SHS exposure was associated with the adolescent's smoking status, parental smoking, close friends smoking, and family structure. The risk was markedly increased in association with parental smoking for exposure inside the home (OR = 6.49; 95% CI = 5.44-7.73) and with close friends smoking for exposure outside the home (OR = 4.16; 95% CI = 3.54-4.77). The risk of SHS, however, was lower among adolescents having knowledge about smoking and highly educated parents. Conclusion. The study revealed a considerably high prevalence of SHS both inside and outside the home among adolescents. Knowledge and beliefs about SHS exposure are the main preventable approach.
