All the Elaines (original) (raw)

...and that made me sad. I was really looking forward to getting a lot of stuff done, and seeing all my friends, and having a lot of fun.

Oh well. Next week.

I was also really hoping to mention Mirrormask. Those of you who read my journal already know what Mirrormask is. For those of you who don't, it's an absolutely wonderful movie. Everyone I know who's seen it loves it. The screenplay was written by Neil Gaiman, the artwork was by Dave McKean, it was directed by Dave McKean, it was made by the Jim Henson Company, and it has been compared to Labyrinth.

What's it about? A young girl named Helena, who wants to run away from the circus to join "real life." Her mom gets sick, and she soon finds herself in a very strange world... I've heard it compared to Lewis Carroll on acid. I've also heard it called "Alice in Wonderland meets the Wizard of Oz." Anyway, the white queen in this world is asleep, and the only way to wake her up and get Helena home is to find a magic charm...

It's an amazing film.

Anyway. I own a copy now, and I was talking with Code Name: Song Mistress the other night about it. She points out that she has a large back room with a big TV in it. We could all congregate at her house for a Mirrormask Watch Party. I think this is a great idea!

Everyone who's interested, email me with times and dates that would work for you, so that we can plan this thing. Once we have a time and date, I'll email everyone back with the information so we can all learn to enjoy this film as much as I already do.

And remember:

"I don't want to be a waiter!"

(just wait. You'll see.)
