The Blue Whale Challenge has become a topic of discussion presently due to the negative aftereffe... more The Blue Whale Challenge has become a topic of discussion presently due to the negative aftereffect it is carrying with it. It is evident from the reports that there has been an increasing number of teenagers who are being trapped into this deadly internet game Blue Whale Challenge. The Google Trends of past 12 months report a sharp increase in the searches related to the blue whale challenge in India (news18.com 2017). Around 200 suicides have been reported all over the world by the players of this game. It is of seeming importance that there is a need to sensitize schools, teachers, families and parents of adolescent populations on a broader level to understand psychological impact of such games. Over the years researches have been conducted to coin a suitable intervention strategy and models that would decrease delinquent behaviour and promote pro-social development. Practical techniques are required to resolve their behavioural health issues and address their mental health problems. The current study examines the behavioural problems of juvenile delinquents in the observation homes in India and assesses the application and the effectiveness of intervention provided to them through Life Skills Education (LSE) module. Life Skill Education intervention comes up to be an effective and active learning method of behavioural health promotion, if built into a model that addresses the behavioural needs of juvenile delinquents.Keywords: juvenile delinquent, behavioural health promotion, life skills

In accordance to the statistics by National Crime Records Bureau (2014), the Indian scenario reflects a constant rise in the trends of occurrence of juvenile crime from 2.08% in 2011to 2.58% in 2013-14 of total cognizable crime. Enormous literature supports the growing fame and evidence for the role of life skills in the development of psychosocial competencies among younger generation (UNICEF, 2016). Life skills education works as a structured programme of needs- and outcomes, based on participatory experiential learning, which primarily aims to assist an individual to develop and simultaneously practice psychosocial skills that decrease risk factors and increase protective factors in life (UNICEF, 2016). The researches and reviews from the fields of psychology, criminology and education reflect that ... more The researches and reviews from the fields of psychology, criminology and education reflect that the roots of adult delinquency lie in early childhood’s violent and disruptive behaviors. There are wide ranges of intervention, training and therapeutic strategies that have been focused on eradicating effects of these factors on early adolescents and thus can prevent later antisocial behaviors (Hirokazu, 1995).Children who show high levels of physical aggression during the elementary school years are at greatest risk of involving in violent behaviors in adulthood ( Lansford, et al., 2007).The upper middle class adolescents are significantly showing serious disruptive behaviors that lead them to adult delinquency. (Luthar, Barkin, & Crossman, 2013). Research findings indicate that problems like excessive use of drugs, alcohol and vandalism had been evident in children who belonged to high income and well educated families (Shanley, Lefever, & Rice, 1966).Enhancement of subjective wellbeing and social skills in early childhood can prevent onset of delinquent behavior in adulthood. Life skills education training as a format focusses on developing psych- social competencies that can help children to deal with day to day life problems (WHO, Department of Mental health, 1998).This study focusses on children of 8 years of age studying in a private English medium school. It will assess their strengths and difficulties and levels of aggression at pre and post stages through self-report measures. A teacher’s report measure based on children behavior in last 30 days will also be used as a part of this life skills based training assessment. This study aims at identifying causes of onset of aggressive behavior in early childhood. It aims at outlining importance of life skills education training in building insight and awareness among children about outcomes of aggressive behaviors and its harmful effects in later lives.
