The Legacy of Amrut Distilleries

Shri J.N. Radhakrishna Affectionately known as “J.N.R,” Amrut Distilleries flourished under his astute leadership, swiftly becoming a major supplier of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). J.N.R’s strategic guidance propelled the company to establish a strong presence as one of the foremost suppliers in the state of Karnataka, particularly gaining prominence in the old Mysore area.

Shri Neelakanta Rao Jagdale After the untimely demise of J.N.R in 1976, the mantle devolved to his son, Shri Neelakanta Rao Jagdale, the Chairman and Managing Director. Building on the solid foundations laid by his late father, his stewardship has seen Amrut Distilleries blossom into a multi-national brand respected as much for the superlative quality of its products as for his campaign for transparent practices by the IMFL industry.

Rakshit N Jagdale Amrut is now headed by Rakshit N Jagdale, the third generation of the entrepreneurial N. R. Jagdale family. He holds an MBA degree from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne and is the grandson of Shri. Radhakrishna N Jagdale and son of Mr. Neelakanta Rao R Jagdale. After his graduation, Rakshit joined the family company as an “apprentice”. For two years he gained practical work exposure in different areas of the business and just like his father, echoed the question – “How do we upgrade what my fellow Indians are consuming?”

In his pursuit to learn better, under the guidance of his father, he then took up an MBA at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, in England. It was there that he was able to relate his practical experience in the industry to his studies. Rakshit wrote his MBA thesis on a strategic business plan for “Marketing Amrut Single Malt Whisky in the home of whiskies – Scotland, UK”. As part of an exhaustive market research study, Rakshit imported duty-paid miniature samples of Amrut Single Malt Whisky and test-marketed the product in 85 Indian restaurants across the UK.
