In recent decades, the number of instances and features hasgrown in size, making most current feature selection algorithms and even GAs, unscalable. To improve the scalability of big data feature selection algorithms and exceptionally GA, we adopt distributed computing strategies such as the Map-Reduce model and Hadoop system. In this paper, we first present recent work dealing with the use of parallel genetic algorithms in large datasets. Then we will propose a new parallel genetic algorithm based on the island model. The performance of the proposed method was theoretically and empirically compared to existing feature selection methods when handling large-scale datasets and the results confirm the effectiveness of our proposed method.

In recent decades, the number of instances and features hasgrown in size, making most current feature selection algorithms and even GAs, unscalable. To improve the scalability of big data feature selection algorithms and exceptionally GA, we adopt distributed computing strategies such as the Map-Reduce model and Hadoop system. In this paper, we first present recent work dealing with the use of parallel genetic algorithms in large datasets. Then we will propose a new parallel genetic algorithm based on the island model. The performance of the proposed method was theoretically and empirically compared to existing feature selection methods when handling large-scale datasets and the results confirm the effectiveness of our proposed method.
