amylee (original) (raw)
So I was browsing the IMDB website and decided to look up my favorite vocalist, Amy Lee. After doing so, I found a topic about Amy's voice live:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1341624/b...d/95107536?p=1
(you have to be a member of the website to see the topic...)
In short, they criticize her voice a LOT live. Some people mention that she needs a vocal coach, etc., and others say she doesn't have the talent that she's had before.
Some example posts:
"In a live concert enviroment (when it isn't filmed for tv like that performance) she lacks greatly nowadays. She doesn't seem to be able to control her voice live when many other singers to jump around manage to do the same thing.
Also back in 2003 he used to jump around on stage and sing perfectly.... what changed? "
."This has actually been bothering me a lot lately. I love the girl to death, but I wish a vocal coach would take her aside for just 15 minutes and tell her she's absolutely destroying her voice.
If you listen to "Origin" and "Fallen," which were both recorded before she had ever done a lot of live performances, and compare it to "The Open Door," you'll hear that her most recent singing gets really, really covered and ugly in the upper register because she's pushing for this big, powerful sound. I don't think she understands that she would have all the consistency in the world if she stopped pushing and just let it come out. Her diction's also gone to hell.
I noticed it a lot when I was listening to "Hello" the other night - in the bridge, where she goes up on "not sleeping," I realized that she can't sing like that anymore. She's really damaged her voice, and you can hear all that wear and tear and covering on "The Open Door." It's not really beautiful anymore, and it's really sad. She used to sing a lot healthier than she does now. It's not really her fault; she thinks what she's doing is required to be heard over a rock band, but it's really not."
What do you guys think? I think that the people over at the IMDB boards are being a bit hard on her. A lot of times her voice is a-ok when she's jumping around - I don't really see the problem. Everybody has their less than perfect days.
