I bought this pan to replace the same size Calphalon pan that I bought at Bed Bath & Beyond a few years ago. Even though I hand washed it, the surface of the old pan had gradually degraded and started to develop scratches and flake off. I decided to try another Calphalon pan anyway and I'm glad I did.

The surface on this pan is shiny vs. the matte finish on the old pan's surface. It seems harder and smoother too. This pan, even though it's the same diameter, is a bit deeper and has a glass lid that goes with it, and there was no lid with the old pan, both of which are big improvements.

I might revisit this review after I've used it for several months to report on the durability of the surface--the old pan started to lose its nonstickiness after several months and started to develop scratches in the surface even though I used plastic utensils and hand washed it.

The instructions for this pan say that it's dishwasher safe but I will still hand wash it, so won't be able to say whether the harsh detergents and high temperatures in the dishwasher would damage the nonstick surface.

So far I LOVE this pan. It really does seem to be an improvement over my old one.
