Almost Perfect, But Not Quite
The Google Pixel 9 is a pretty sweet upgrade, especially if you're coming from something like the Pixel 7a. Right off the bat, the design stands out—sleek, solid, and definitely more refined than the previous models. The Obsidian black colour gives it a premium feel that just feels great in hand, exactly what you'd expect from Google at this price point.Now, let’s talk about that camera. It’s noticeably better, with sharpness, clarity, and those little improvements that make all the difference. If you're into photography or just love capturing moments, this camera won't let you down. The 24-hour battery is also doing its job well, though I’m aware it’s still early days and we’ll see how it holds up over time. Performance-wise, everything runs smoothly—no hiccups, no lag. It’s just a well-oiled machine, delivering that reliable Android experience. But as much as I’m enjoying it, there are a couple of things that make me hesitate before giving it a perfect score.First off, where are the magnetic rings? I know it might sound minor, but those Magsafe-like rings would make wireless charging and mounting in the car so much easier. Other brands have nailed this, and it’s a bit disappointing to see Google miss out on such a simple yet effective feature.Then there’s the storage—128GB. Really, Google? I already had a Google Pixel 7 Pro so was looking forward to receiving my new Google Pixel 9.
This came in a neat little box with the phone and charging cable. The model I received is smaller than my 7 Pro but does everything that one did and more. It was very easy to transfer everything over and I ended up using the cable which made the process a lot quicker.
I am loving the "Add me" function in the camera which allows you to take a picture and then swap with another person and take another picture so it looks like you are both in the picture. My 8 year old thought this was great and I now have loads of photos with him in them twice 🤣. The Gemini function is really useful too.
As this phone is smaller I am finding it easier to hold and it fits in my pockets nicely.
It is a very sleek design and I am finding it very user friendly. I do think the rear camera looks very blocky and sits very proud of the phone. It's almost as though a camera has been bolted on to the back and I think it really needs to be in a good quality phone case for protection.
Overall this is a great phone with an excellent camera.

I recently upgraded to the Google Pixel 9 - Android Smartphone with Gemini, and I must say, this phone is nothing short of impressive. The advanced camera is a standout feature, capturing stunning photos with incredible detail and vibrant colours. Whether it’s low light or bright sunlight, the Pixel 9 handles it all effortlessly.
The 24-hour battery life is another huge plus, keeping me connected and powered up throughout the day without any worries. The 6.3" Actua Display is crisp and clear, making everything from browsing to streaming a delightful experience.
My only minor gripe is that it doesn’t come with Android 14 pre-installed, so I’ll have to wait a bit for that upgrade. However, this is a small inconvenience compared to the overall performance and features of this phone.
Overall, I highly recommend the Google Pixel 9 to anyone looking for a top-tier smartphone experience. It’s a game-changer in every sense!

The all-new Pixel 9 - comes in a nice box - I tore off the two strips on the back then slid the box out to reveal a sleek and well-built mobile with a smart design. My first impression of the elegant look and feel was that it reminded me of an iPhone - particularly the squared-off flat sides.
The screen is bright (2700 nits) and very responsive - and the fingerprint and face recognition are especially fast. The various features of the phone can be complex, but are worth exploring.
The Gemini integration is a major feature - though Assistant is still there (and still what I have to use with my Google Nest devices) - and it works well with Google Lens. There is also an option to chat with Gemini via text messages as well as, obviously, via the microphone. Chatting with Gemini (including asking it about photos) for me is a key feature of this phone.
The camera physically stands out - and while the rim around the bump or visor is slightly raised, it looks like it might be in need of more protection. And the photos and videos it takes are high resolution and very sharp - though they can look a bit processed at times. There are all manner of lenses and options, 4k video boosted by AI (processed as you shoot it), also enhanced zoom capabilities based on AI interpolation. The "Add Me" feature allows you to slot yourself into a group photo after it's been taken, and the Magic Editor can use AI to alter, extend and even reimagine photos. It's particularly good at taking Panorama photos.
While the camera and the AI are stand-out features, I had some smaller pluses and minuses. I personally liked the app specifically for organising and labelling screenshots. I was also disappointed that the facility to record and take notes on a phone call doesn't appear to be available in the UK. And I felt that the storage space could be more generous (even my old phone has 256GB) but 128GB is probably enough for most people.
I found the performance to be excellent in general. And during a typical day of busy use I don't have to recharge, and do not experience overheating.
At the time of my review it came with an attractive trade-in option which was communicated after purchase by Amazon.

Soy un fanático de los smartphones tanto de android como de ios. Suelo venderlos y comprar siempre el modelo del año siguiente. Hoy me voy a enfocar el los pixel y comparando con el pixel 7 pro, pixel 8 y este pixel 9 veo que Google cada año parece arreglar sus errores y aunque no son cambios grandes en los teléfonos sigue el camino adecuado. Creo que el diseño este año es muy bonito, han mejorado todo y por 899€ el modelo de 256 creo que merece mucho la pena.
Software: os pueden hablar del ecosistema Samsung, que es el mejor en android pero como está capa propia de Google no hay ninguna, todo funciona increíble (mucho mejor que en cualquier teléfono Samsung) y mejor que en cualquier android. La respuesta de pantalla es la mejor en este sistema operativo y las actualizaciones impresionantes.
Hardware: el tensor g4 no es lo más top pero no creo que decepcione a nadie, eso sí, si lo único que te importa es la potencia mejor compra uno con snapdragon gen 3.
Gemini: esto debe tener mención aparte, creo que la IA en este teléfono enfocado a la fotografía es una pasada, puedes hacer mil cosas con reimagine (puedes cambiar el fondo o añadir objetos en cualquier foto hecha o no con este teléfono) y con incluyeme os ponéis dos personas en la foto o las que querais (saliendo todos) sin tenerlo que pedir a nadie.
Cámaras: una pasada, tengo también un 15 pro Max y en el ultra gran angular le da un repaso de libro tanto de día como de noche. El principal está al nivel (le gana tambien al iPhone de noche).
Batería: ha mejorado mucho comparado con el pixel 8, aún así, un teléfono pequeño siempre llega justo al final del día si sois exigentes y encima la carga rápida de los pixel ...es bastante regular (tenedlo en cuenta).
Teléfono muy recomendable (da mucho más que un iPhone 15 y tiene las mismas cualidades que un iPhone en android , buen software, buena cámara y además IA que marca la diferencia y lo hace más divertido y útil.

Mein Google Pixel 8 hatte einen Displayschaden, sodass ich schon auf das Pixel 9 gewechselt bin. Ich habe lange überlegt, ob ich nach dem Defekt wirklich noch mal ein Telefon von Google möchte, aber die Kamera in Verbindung mit dem - verglichen zu ähnlich gut fotografierenden Telefonen - akzeptablen/guten Preis, hat mich letztendlich doch wieder zu Google geführt.
Ich habe Bewertungen gelesen, dass die Kamerasoftware die Bilder zu sehr aufhübscht, dass sie die Bilder verfälscht, zu sehr nachschärft oder sogar, dass manchen das Fotografieren mit dem Pixel zu leicht ist und sie beispielsweise Geräte von Xiaomi bevorzugen, weil man da noch ein bisschen Können braucht. Diese Kritik kann ich nicht nachvollziehen. Gerade das schnelle Zücken des Telefons, um Momente einzufangen und einen spontanen, wirklich schönen Schnappschuss zu machen, war mir ein Hauptanliegen. Das ist in meinen Augen einfach eine Paradedisziplin von Google. Ich ziehe das Telefon aus der Tasche, drücke dabei schon doppelt auf den Ein-/Ausknopf und starte damit die Kamera. Wenn ich diese dann auf das Bildmotiv meiner Wahl ausgerichtet habe, kann ich direkt mit dem Lautstärkeregler abdrücken oder auf den Auslöser auf dem Display drücken und habe normalerweise direkt ein schönes und scharfes Bild. Die automatische Aufnahme der bewegten Fotos hat schon so manches schöne Foto hervorgebracht, einfach weil man sich die Minivideosequenz anschauen und das beste Foto daraus heraussuchen kann. Ich habe zwei kleine Kinder und gerade dann will man doch die schönsten Momente einfangen. Wer kennt es nicht, dass manchmal im Moment des Auslösens die Augen geschlossen sind, eine Hand hoch fährt oder etwas anderes ist. Hier kann ich dann einfach eine halbe Sekunde weiter spulen und dort das Foto auswählen. Das ist super einfach und erhöht die "Volltrefferwahrscheinlichkeit" enorm.
Die Bildschärfe ist enorm gut. Viele Konkurrenten sehen schon verwaschen und schwammig aus, wo das Pixel noch scharf ist - insbesondere auch beim Hineinzoomen. Manchen Menschen ist das vielleicht zu unlnatürlich. Klar, das menschliche Auge hat seine Grenzen. In meinen Augen ist die Realität aber nicht unscharf, nur weil sie weiter weg von einem ist. Dementsprechend finde ich es hervorragend, dass ich theoretisch noch kleine, entfernte Schilder im Hintergrund eines Fotos lesen könnte. Manchmal fallen einfach im Nachgang noch Details auf, die man vorher nicht gesehen hat.
Auch die Videos, die man mit dem Pixel aufnimmt sind super. Das Telefon hat eine tolle Bildstabilisierung, seht gut und schnell den Fokus und nimmt auch ausgezeichneten Ton mit dem integrierten Mikrofon auf.
Ich habe auch eine über 2.000€ teure Kamera, die natürlich normalerweise noch schönere Bilder macht. Aber die Kamera ist sehr groß und dementsprechend nicht ständig dabei. Sie ist nicht so schnell in Position gebracht und damit ist ihr Schnappschusspotential klein. Auch ist sie deutlich stärker von gutem Licht abhängig, damit Bilder nicht verrauscht aussehen. Das Pixel ist hier einfach eine Macht und ich bin sehr froh, dass ich es habe.
Der Akku war mir neben der Kamera auch immer sehr wichtig. Gerade der ist in den Pixeltestes oft eher mäßig bis schlecht bewertet worden. Mit dem Pixel 8 kam ich trotzdem gut über den Tag. Das Pixel 9 habe ich nun vier Tage im Einsatz und in der Zeit zwei mal geladen. Gefühlt hält der Akku 1,5 mal so lange, wie beim Pixel 8, obwohl das Display minimal größer ist und der Akku nur um 125 mAh auf 4.700 mAh gewachsen ist. Scheinbar hat Google hier deutlich an der Effizienz und ggf. auch Akkuverwaltung gearbeitet.
Induktives Laden ist eine praktische Funktion, die beispielsweise beim Laden im Auto helfen kann: Dank kabelloser Datenverbindung ist so im Auto generell kein Kabel mehr nötig. Ich werfe das Auto beim Einsteigen vor längeren Fahrten in die Ablage und habe direkt beim Starten eine Datenverbindung und die Aufrechterhaltung des Akkus (wirklich voll zu laden klappt meistens nicht, weil die Ladeleistung dafür dann doch zu gering ist). Ich lade oft kabellos auf meinem Radiowecker über Nacht - da ist mir die Ladegeschwindigkeit herzlich egal. Die Funktion des adaptiven Ladens, sodass das Telefon erst kurz vor der Weckzeit voll ist finde ich hingegen super, da sie den Akku schon und so seine Lebensdauer hoffentlich verlängert (Akkus mögen es ja eigentlich nicht besonders leer oder komplett voll zu sein - wenn schon, dann möglichst nur über eine sehr kurze Dauer).
Über die Ladezeit am Kabel kann ich noch nicht so viel sagen. Viele wollen eine schnellere Ladegeschwindigkeit und Xiaomi macht das ja auch imposant vor. Wenn man das Telefon beispielsweise eh über Nacht lädt oder nebenbei bei bei der Arbeit, dann ist einem das herzlich egal. Lediglich die eine "Notsituation" im Jahr, wo man mal schnell los muss und der Akku nur noch wenige Prozent hat, die man gerne maximal in 10 Minuten boosten möchte, profitiert dann von schneller ladenden Telefonen. In allen anderen Ladevorgängen verschleißt vielleicht einfach nur der Akku schneller bei der schnelleren Konkurrenz - das ist nur meine Vermutung, ich weiß es nicht, bzw. kann das natürlich nicht belegen.
Zur Spieleleistung kann ich nichts sagen, da ich mit dem Telefon nicht spiele. Für den Alltagsgebrauch reicht die Leistung absolut aus - Surfen geht vollkommen flüssig, genau so, wie der Wechsel zwischen verschiedenen Apps oder auch der Parallelbetrieb von Apps.
Die Lautsprecher wirken etwas voluminöser als beim Pixel 8. Vielleicht ist das nur Einbildung, da ich den direkten Vergleich aufgrund des Schadens am Pixel 8 nicht mehr machen kann. Ich hatte mich aber bei ein zwei Liedern und Videos "erschrocken", dass der Klang kräftiger wirkte.
Ein deutlicher Preissprung zur Vorgeneration fand auch schon zwischen Pixel 7 und 8 statt. Ich hoffe, die Spirale dreht nicht endlos weiter. Ich habe die Anschaffung des Pixel 9 auf jeden Fall nicht bereut und bin bislang absolut zufrieden damit. Die Verarbeitung ist sehr hochwertig und das Telefon strahlt in meinen Augen in allen Belangen Qualität aus. Über das Design will ich nicht weiter reden - das ist individuelle Geschmackssache. Viele Tests bemängeln keine Große Veränderung zum Vorgänger. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass es dafür aber sehr viele kleine Verbesserungen gibt, die in Summe schon einen spürbaren Fortschritt bedeuten. Aus diesem Grund gibt es von mir aktuell die vollen 5 Sterne für das Google Pixel 9. Sollte sich im Laufe des Gebrauchs noch der eine oder andere Negativaspekt ergeben, werde ich das hier nachtragen und meine Bewertung anpassen.
Bis dahin bleibt das Telefon für mich eine Empfehlung für jeden, der eine schnelle und hervorragende Kamera am Telefon will, bei guter Akkulaufzeit, ordentlicher Qualität und Haptik des Telefons mit langer Herstellerupdatezeit, die theoretisch eine lange Lebensdauer und Nutzungszeit des Telefons versprechen.

Der Akku war mir neben der Kamera auch immer sehr wichtig. Gerade der ist in den Pixeltestes oft eher mäßig bis schlecht bewertet worden. Mit dem Pixel 8 kam ich trotzdem gut über den Tag. Das Pixel 9 habe ich nun vier Tage im Einsatz und in der Zeit zwei mal geladen. Gefühlt hält der Akku 1,5 mal so lange, wie beim Pixel 8, obwohl das Display minimal größer ist und der Akku nur um 125 mAh auf 4.700 mAh gewachsen ist. Scheinbar hat Google hier deutlich an der Effizienz und ggf. auch Akkuverwaltung gearbeitet.
Induktives Laden ist eine praktische Funktion, die beispielsweise beim Laden im Auto helfen kann: Dank kabelloser Datenverbindung ist so im Auto generell kein Kabel mehr nötig. Ich werfe das Auto beim Einsteigen vor längeren Fahrten in die Ablage und habe direkt beim Starten eine Datenverbindung und die Aufrechterhaltung des Akkus (wirklich voll zu laden klappt meistens nicht, weil die Ladeleistung dafür dann doch zu gering ist). Ich lade oft kabellos auf meinem Radiowecker über Nacht - da ist mir die Ladegeschwindigkeit herzlich egal. Die Funktion des adaptiven Ladens, sodass das Telefon erst kurz vor der Weckzeit voll ist finde ich hingegen super, da sie den Akku schon und so seine Lebensdauer hoffentlich verlängert (Akkus mögen es ja eigentlich nicht besonders leer oder komplett voll zu sein - wenn schon, dann möglichst nur über eine sehr kurze Dauer).
Über die Ladezeit am Kabel kann ich noch nicht so viel sagen. Viele wollen eine schnellere Ladegeschwindigkeit und Xiaomi macht das ja auch imposant vor. Wenn man das Telefon beispielsweise eh über Nacht lädt oder nebenbei bei bei der Arbeit, dann ist einem das herzlich egal. Lediglich die eine "Notsituation" im Jahr, wo man mal schnell los muss und der Akku nur noch wenige Prozent hat, die man gerne maximal in 10 Minuten boosten möchte, profitiert dann von schneller ladenden Telefonen. In allen anderen Ladevorgängen verschleißt vielleicht einfach nur der Akku schneller bei der schnelleren Konkurrenz - das ist nur meine Vermutung, ich weiß es nicht, bzw. kann das natürlich nicht belegen.
Zur Spieleleistung kann ich nichts sagen, da ich mit dem Telefon nicht spiele. Für den Alltagsgebrauch reicht die Leistung absolut aus - Surfen geht vollkommen flüssig, genau so, wie der Wechsel zwischen verschiedenen Apps oder auch der Parallelbetrieb von Apps.
Die Lautsprecher wirken etwas voluminöser als beim Pixel 8. Vielleicht ist das nur Einbildung, da ich den direkten Vergleich aufgrund des Schadens am Pixel 8 nicht mehr machen kann. Ich hatte mich aber bei ein zwei Liedern und Videos "erschrocken", dass der Klang kräftiger wirkte.
Ein deutlicher Preissprung zur Vorgeneration fand auch schon zwischen Pixel 7 und 8 statt. Ich hoffe, die Spirale dreht nicht endlos weiter. Ich habe die Anschaffung des Pixel 9 auf jeden Fall nicht bereut und bin bislang absolut zufrieden damit. Die Verarbeitung ist sehr hochwertig und das Telefon strahlt in meinen Augen in allen Belangen Qualität aus. Über das Design will ich nicht weiter reden - das ist individuelle Geschmackssache. Viele Tests bemängeln keine Große Veränderung zum Vorgänger. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass es dafür aber sehr viele kleine Verbesserungen gibt, die in Summe schon einen spürbaren Fortschritt bedeuten. Aus diesem Grund gibt es von mir aktuell die vollen 5 Sterne für das Google Pixel 9. Sollte sich im Laufe des Gebrauchs noch der eine oder andere Negativaspekt ergeben, werde ich das hier nachtragen und meine Bewertung anpassen.
Bis dahin bleibt das Telefon für mich eine Empfehlung für jeden, der eine schnelle und hervorragende Kamera am Telefon will, bei guter Akkulaufzeit, ordentlicher Qualität und Haptik des Telefons mit langer Herstellerupdatezeit, die theoretisch eine lange Lebensdauer und Nutzungszeit des Telefons versprechen.

Posso solo recensire in modo positivo questo smartphone, sono passato dal Pixel 8 al 9 e già sulla qualità costruttiva sono stati fatti passi da gigante, partiamo nello specificare che sul vecchio superiormente la copertura della back cover è in plastica sul Pixel 9 è completamente in vetro, la scocca in alluminio è davvero ottima e non lascia nessun impronta, stessa cosa per quanto riguarda la copertura delle fotocamere posteriori.
Per quanto riguarda le prestazioni principalmente il telefono non scalda come il suo predecessore, si vede che è stata fatta un'ottima ottimizzazione sul Tensor G4, non ho avuto nessun impuntamento o lag nemmeno mentre scaricava le applicazioni e scriveva le copie di backup del mio vecchio Pixel 8. La batteria è davvero più duratura, finalmente arrivo a fine giornata con un uso medio/intensivo, ad un'ottima percentuale del 20% (il telefono lo stacco ogni giorno alle 5:30 del mattino).
Conclusioni, per me l'upgrade ha avuto davvero senso principalmente per le motivazioni sopracitate e per finire l'integrazione dell'AI è stata la ciliegina sulla torta.
