All his works in one collection. Hours of great upbeat music in ragtime.

If you are fan of the music of Scott Joplin, arguably one of the greatest American composers, you owe it to yourself to check out this recording from pianist Richard Dowling. His interpretations are on par with the very best to include Joshua Rifkin and William Bolcolm. And the recording quality is sublime, perhaps the best a piano (a Hamburg Steinway Model D in this case) has been captured on a redbook CD. Dowling plays some tunes (Maple Leaf Rag, for example) at a rather brisk pace and yet they do not feel rushed.
If this was a competition, this recording of the complete piano works of Scott Joplin gets a perfect 10.

What to buy, the complete works or the definitive pianist? I went for the complete works (and there are no duds in it, just wonderful less-played gems) and the pianist turned out to be excellent. The playing is sensitive, bringing out the different voices, and appropriately mellow or spirited, depending on the piece. The pianist sounded as though he enjoyed playing the music. Definitely danceable. Perfect music for today's times, which call for pleasant distractions.

This music was considered - rock & roll...in my grandmothers young years. She was a professional
piano teacher, and played for the Catholic & Methodist churches, in Virginia, and New York, when she lived
there. I will always remember her love, smiles, great cooking, and her love for her High Top Piano & Music.
RIP FOREVER IN HEAVEN...!!! LOVE YOU...MISS YOU...Grandma Thelma 1913-2000.

This 3-CD set was scheduled to complement Richard Dowling’s performance of Joplin’s complete piano works at two sell-out recitals at Carnegie Hall, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death. The instrument used for these recordings was a Hamburg Steinway concert grand piano, and sound quality is outstanding, resulting in an ambience both clear and spacious. Joplin’s compositions express a variety of moods, and Richard Dowling’s musicianship brings out each individual quality to the full. The amount of care that’s gone into the presentation of this landmark recording is absolutely commendable. It includes a 72-page book with an introduction to Joplin’s life, an overview by Richard Dowling of his approach to playing the music, and an individual commentary on each of the 54 tunes by Bryan Wright, together with a colour reproduction of the original sheet music cover.

I think I have enjoyed this set of CDs almost more than any other music I have ordered on-line. I have made copies of the CDs to play in my car. My car stereo has 5 slots and this set takes up the first three. I LOVE IT! Now I have the light and cheerful music of Scott Joplin with me when I travel. I also have the music on my MP3 player and enjoy it there too.

This 3 CD set is nothing short of sensational. Richard Dowling has gone well beyond the mere archiving of all of Joplin's solo piano works. Indeed, he has put together a complete program that works artistically from beginning to end. No matter whether you listen to the complete program in order or just listen to one segment at a time, you will discover that each piece is juxtaposed against the next in a way that keeps the music fresh and enables you to enjoy the special qualities that Joplin has embedded in each work.
There is a reason why Joplin acquired the title, King of Ragtime, and Dowling proves convincingly that Joplin is, indeed, the king!

I bought this for Christmas for my husband who is working on playing Scott Joplin on the piano, He has made great progress on the piano with the help of listening to Joplin in the car. It embeds the songs in his head , helping his fingers to play out the music. Beautiful compositions.

E' la terza opera omnia di Scott Joplin interpretata da tre diversi musicisti (pianoforte solista) che acquisto. Anche in questo caso la riproposta dei brani, famosi o meno, del compositore ragtime di Sedalia risulta molto personale, accurata, e del tutto apprezzabile. Esistono molte antologie similari per tutti i gusti e tutte le borse: basta scegliere in base alle proprie intenzioni e possibilità. La presente di Richard Dowling merita una certa attenzione anche se il prezzo è leggermente superiore alle concorrenti sorelle di altre etichette discografiche.

Dies ist das komplette Werk des Komponisten für Klavier (Gesamtdauer 3,5 Stunden, auf 3 CDs). Die Stücke sind außerordentlich flott und schnell und dabei von einer Klangfülle, die von so mancher Orchesteraufnahme anderer Werke nicht erreicht wird. Das bekannteste Stück ist natürlich "The Entertainer".
Der Pianist ist klassisch ausgebildet, und das hört man auch. Seine Spielfreude reißt den Hörer immer mit, und die Leichtigkeit, mit der er schnelle Folgen von Akkorden spielt, bei denen jede Einzelnote woanders hin driftet, ist einfach nur bewundernswert!
Interessant auch das Begleitbuch, in dem zu jedem Stück (in der Reihenfolge seines Auftretens auf Platte) die farbige erste Seite der Originalpartitur abgebildet ist und außerdem interessante Begleitinformationen gegeben werden. Übrigens ist die Reihenfolge auf Platte nicht chronologisch, sondern folgt einer eigenen Programmgestaltung durch den Pianisten. Die Werke sind aber trotzdem vollständig vorhanden.
Prädikat: Überaus empfehlenswert!

Joplinの全曲集としてはNO.1 ピアニストのDoｗlingはクラシック、ポピュラー、ジャズのオールラウンドプレーヤーとして世界中で評価されている人です。このCDではテンポ良く美しい音を出して弾いています。２０１５年の録音であり、良い音でJoplin を楽しみたい人には最適です。３枚のCDの他に、７２ページもある解説書（作曲者、ﾋﾟｱﾆｽﾄ、曲目紹介 録音ﾃﾞｰﾀなど）が付属しています。ただし、Joplin作曲の演奏家としては、リフキンがダントツの一位であり、それとの相対比較で星4とします。
