The majority of dogs were suffering from bacterial infections, especially Staphylococcal infection (90 %). Different commensals on skin like Staphylococcus spp., Aspergillus spp. (50 %), Malassezia spp. (45 %), Demodex spp. (25 %) etc. caused secondary or concurrent infections in many atopic dogs indicating the importance of atopy in recurrent or non-responding dermatitis with those commensal organisms.

These parasites have an indirect life cycle, cycling between definitive and intermediate hosts. Dogs act as definitive hosts of different species of Taenia including Taenia multiceps, Taenia serialis, Taenia crassiceps, Taenia hydatigena, Taenia pisiformis, etc. Taenia multiceps is of greatest zoonotic relevance in human. In the definitive host, it causes only mild infection. Larvae are more likely to cause disease than adult tapeworms. Taeniasis in pets should be cautiously handled because of its zoonotic importance. This communication reports a case of 3 months old pup suffering from Taenia infection that was successfully managed with a combination of praziquantel and fenbendazole.

In India, it is the most common tumor of dogs owing to uncontrolled breeding practices (Singh et al ., 1991). The transmissible nature is suggestive of an infectious etiology; however, no infectious particles have ever been detected within the tumor cells (Rogers, 1997). These tumor cells are not the patient’s own cells transformed into cancer cells. The TVT is a tumor that grafts itself from one dog’s body onto another dog’s body (Richardson, 1981). The present communication reports a case of TVT and its successful chemotherapeutic management in a bitch.
