I've had personal experience with cancer and this is a very important cause. I'm soon to be losing my autn and this event is the 10 year anniversary of a one of my best friends being diagnosed with this horrible disease. I'm asking everyone in every community to please help us find a cure!
Thank you so much! Below is the generic letter with all of the info.

4:08PM - Greetings to the AW Tribe!
Hello out there. Not much has been said over the last year. But here we are a mere two weeks from this year's festival. There was a surge of thoughts and ideas at the end of last year's festival, and I am wondering what folks have in mind for this year.
I was hoping that my coven would be up to doing a public ritual at Festival. But, alas, as of a few months back, we are on indefinite hiatus. It is not clear if and when we will regroup.
I remember a lot of other things that folks had to say at the end of last year. Some important questions came out of it. Please feel free to respond to any of these, or remind us all of others, or to and your own:
- The festival has been shrinking over the past few years. Last year, in particular, was very small (maybe 250-300 folks?)
-Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I know that for Glenn, who puts it on, it is making it less and less feasible to continue to have the festival, from a financial perspective. So, should she move it? Change it? Get the numbers back up, some way? Give it up?
- Several folks said to me that the festival no longer offered the kinds of things they wanted. A few were specific. And a few of them had some ideas of their own, on how to make it better/more fulfilling...at least for themselves
- How did folks who were there last year feel about Omer and his wife coming and spinning amplified music for us, last year?
- Would you be interested in some sort of guided hike around the larger Harbin site, highlighting local plant and animal life and key features people-made and natural, alike?
Would any of you like to share:
- What you like most about the Ancient Ways Festival?
- What you'd like to see more of/less of?
- More generally what would enrich the experience for you?
- Something you would like to offer (or suggest that someone else offer) that you feel would add to the event?
- How you would feel if the Festival moved? Were canceled?
Talk to me, my tribe!

11:41AM - A joyous announcement
I wanted to take a moment to announce to the community that my beloved riseorbleed and I will be handfasted at this summer's Festival. Anyone who wishes to lend good energy to our union is invited.

4:55PM - yes--sir! :)
Well, when you started this community I was completely swamped and running on red-alert 24/7, so I don't know if I ever did an introduction in the first place, and certainly haven't contributed much else. So here is my intro.
I am nearly 29, living in the hills of the Diablo Range between Livermore and Mount Hamilton. I am a country witch. My training is in the Feri tradition. I think of my practice as wild witchcraft because I follow my bones and let my instincts guide me.
My husband and I recently bought a hundred acres of nearly empty land; well, it's only empty of buildings, it's actually quite full of wildlife and subtle magick. The kind that only reveals itself to you as you spend time in a place. We are living there and working on the slow building of what we hope to develop into a pagan retreat and sustainable living center. I don't tend to think small. We have started raising stones for a henge which will eventually occupy a high hill on the land.
I work in natural resource conservation for a federal conservation agency that is under the Department of Agriculture. Basically, I work with private landowners, farmers and ranchers to encourage and help them to do conservation on their lands while maintaining their agricultural way of life and livelihoods. It's work that I love and feel lucky to have.
In lieu of rambling further, I'll leave you all with a quote that was recently sent to me by a friend, that perfectly encapsulates my approach to life, the universe, and everything:
Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage. --Anais Nin
p.s: I'm looking forward to Pantheacon!
3:56PM - More Introductions
New Members and Old, please introduce yourselves, if you have not done so already.

4:59AM - Is anybody out there?
Febuary is not that far away and I was just wondering what kinds of plans people had. I'm hoping to attend Panthea Con again this year. Does anyone have anything exciting planned?

12:24AM - An introduction
Hello, all. Now that I've gotten around to getting on the Ancient Ways community list, I'll take the time to introduce myself.
I'm Laura. I've been to three Ancient Ways total, two of them as a participant and one of them as staff. This past festival, while small, was my most rewarding to date. I worked Ops and Info and had a great time talking to people and helping them out. I also pinch-hit for the Disability Shuttle, and I ran my first ever Ancient Ways workshop, "Blessed Be Thy Feet".
One of the highlights of my Festival was being able to bless Lisa and Lena's handfasting with music. riseorbleed and I learned a song for them in about four hours, with him accompanying and me singing. That experience proved to have a lasting impact for me, as the gods soon revealed that my accompanist was destined to be the partner of my dreams.
I had gone to Ancient Ways this year to present myself as me to the community and to take a stronger role in making the festival happen. I can definitely see myself being a mover and a shaker as the guard changes over from the older to the younger generations. We have the fire and the will to keep this festival alive!

10:16AM - Introductions now Required...
*moderator hat on*
I hate to be a hard-ass. But I am going to have to insist that everyone please introduce, or at least identify, themselves.
Due to the nature of Live Journal, and the fact that some of you have very limited profiles, I feel I need to ask for this. If I am to be moderator for this community, it is important that safe space exist. And for that to be so, I need to know who everyone is.
So please, take a couple of minutes, really just 120 seconds can do it, to tell us all (or at least me) a wee bit about yourself...your name, and how you came to be a part of this community, at the very least.
If you take issue with this, feel free to comment to that point, as well.
For anyone who has not already introduced themselves, you all have 30 days. After that time, any members who have not yet introduced themselves may be dropped. I intend no ill will, in this. If you are dropped, please do re-apply, and introduce yourself, if you are interested in remaining a part of the community.
Thanks!
*moderator hat off*

3:49PM - Ancient Ways Quiz
This idea sprang out of the lack of posts by community members and how people seem to really like answering quizzes -- so here is a quiz which should be fun to answer and might even facilitate deeper conversations on our community issues.

3:11PM - Why so little posting?
Well, I am throwing out all of the ideas I have for discussion topics for this community. Folks seem eager to read, but shy to post. Is it just that the things I am suggesting are not of interest to all of you, to speak to?
If so, please feel free to add your own input. This is not MY community. It is OUR community.
Or, perhaps, I am just being impatient? Maybe these things take more time than I think they do, to develop. I am pretty new to LJ. So if I am just chomping at the bit and need to let it develop on its own, someone please tell me.
Thanks all.

11:51AM - Introductions:
It occurs to me that while I know, or am at least acquainted with, each of you, you may not know each other. To that end, and for the benefit of those who will join us, can we do a round of brief introductions? Who are you? What's your public name (if you care to share it)? How long have you been going to Ancient Ways (if you have attended at all)? How did you come to be a part of the "ancient_ways" community? Anything else you care to share. I'll go first. :)
Current mood: Industrious

11:49AM - Feel free to chime in!
Hello ancient_ways members. Hmmmmm...that sounds awfully formal. Anyway, here we are. I wanted to encourage you all to do any or all of a few things, while we are here.
- Write about some of your favorite experiences at the Ancient Ways Festival
- Write about things you'd like to experience at AW
- Encourage others you know to join us here, to further the brainstorming and idea sharing and communication between other AW folk
- Ask questions
- Share visions/ideas
- Conspire with each other to create the most deep and meaningful interactions (ritual, workshops, hanging out, cooperative cooking efforts, you name it) for future Ancient Ways gatherings
- Organize smaller get-togethers with folk you have, or wish to, interact/ed with at AW, outside of the yearly event, or even PanTheaCon
- Anything else you want to talk about, that I have not covered here
