This agenda has received attention from various disciplines and sectors globally; partnerships from private and public sectors were formed to play a role in this challenging ambitious plan. However, architectural education and professional organisations in Turkey have not been strongly engaged with the agenda in particular. To meet this gap and create synergy, this paper aims at presenting pedagogical paths followed in a graduation studio, integrating the studio outcomes with UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which have not been widely covered either in nationwide architectural education or professional policies. In addition, the paper focuses on how the SDG action plan is echoed in higher education as well as in the discipline of architecture in Turkey. The paper is a case study in architectural education of which the motivation is to create awareness about UN SDGs among the students; to give insights and demonstrate a realistic design policy to achieve development targets. The pedagogical path presented here is original and aims to fulfill an interlude in the literature, which is still emerging. The case presentation includes the process and the results with a sufficient number of student projects as outcomes of the studio.

They can move, rotate, flip and perform various physical gestures. This paper aims to explore the spatial, aesthetical, and technical characteristics of kinetic buildings within the framework of the theory of tectonics, which is still far away from covering the art form of movement. The study has been organized into two phases. The first phase sets up the theoretical framework of the topic by exploring the main dichotomy of the tectonic discourse on “ontological and representational parts of the building” and introduces the main concepts of kinetic architecture related to the characterization of architectural space. The second phase is a case study on The Shed as also known as Culture Shed in Hudson Yards in New York City. This part focuses on the interrelations between tectonics and the physical movement of architectural elements. The results indicate that the type of movement and the role of moving elements change not only the architectural space but also the tectonic character of the building. While some movements and moving parts are directly related to the representational aspects, some change the ontological character of the building. The impact of the movement on the tectonic character is a topic that hasn't been well investigated yet and has the potential to be developed through further research. As a result, the theoretical findings of this study can contribute to tectonic thinking during the design process of kinetic architectural products.

It evaluates how the displacement of people and cultures has affected the spatiotemporal landscapes of the nation at different periods of contemporary Turkey, with an emphasis on various narratives of the relocating population and their relationship to the environment.
Contemporary cities are constantly changing due to the movement of people from different regions, resulting in shifting population patterns globally. Understanding displacement and its effects on space are crucial in studying this phenomenon, as it not only involves the physical relocation of individuals, but also the transfer of cultural practices within a condensed timeframe. This process changes the destination of settlements irreversibly. This book takes a methodological approach and disclinary approach, examining the migration and displacement of people and its effects upon art, architecture, culture and politics in Turkish cities.
This book will be of interest to students and scholars interested in migration and its effects on cities, urban planning and architecture.

This paper aims to present a data mapping analysis that can be used for aligning the studio course with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by teaching professionals.
Design/methodology/approach
The UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), released in 2015, has received global attention from various disciplines and sectors. Professional organizations in architecture have accelerated the engagement between their members and SDGs. This paper analyzes the two volumes of the Architecture Guide to the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals prepared by the efforts of professional organizations or consortiums and published by the UIA between 2018 and 2020. The buildings presented as best practices in these guidebooks were analyzed to demonstrate various ways of capturing the SDGs in the architectural studio when designing the course content, process and teaching materials.
Findings
The analysis presents the kinship among the SDGs and architectural concepts, which are retrieved from the sample buildings in the guidebooks. The findings also refer to the targets for each goal to generate an easily applicable pedagogical path in architectural education. The results are presented as a model approach for SDG-focused studio teaching.

The difference between the gray of the Brutalist buildings and the soulless colors surrounding our cities and the “concrete building” industry is clear only to some of the professionals. As stated by the author, to be able to see the design and the detailing behind the exposed concrete, the rest of the society should be informed about the design culture. To this end, establishing common discussion grounds is crucial.

It also compares the figures of women architects in our country with selected countries from Europe as well as Canada, Australia and United States of America. Our study has demonstrated that despite of the fact that women are generally underrepresented in the all work force in Turkey, the condition of Turkish women architects display a considerably satisfactory level of representation in the profession, when compared with other countries. However, during the analysis it became also evident that the current statistical data in published and unpublished sources have various shortages and thus they are unable to provide a ground for more accurate evaluations. Based on this necessity, we would like to present our proposal for web based documentation and archiving of women architects in order to benefit from the fruitful milieu of the conference discussions. Our proposal for documentation is also reputable to other countries for further developments of this project. The fact that only a small percentage of the overall built environment is shaped by women architects clearly shows the existence of a gender-based crisis in the profession of architecture. Despite the growing number of female students in architectural education especially after the 1980s, male professionals are still shaping architectural practice. This dilemma has become a major area of interest for many scholars who have approached the problem from various viewpoints for the last twenty years. Even the proliferation in the number of books, articles and research reports on the issue of marginalization of women architects in the profession has not been able to change this situation yet (Graft, Greed, Manley, 2003). The patriarchal roots of the profession and its historical relations with craftsmanship are evidently one of the main reasons in the historically delayed entrance of women architects into the profession (Adams, Tancred 2000). The emphasis on the effect of the biological differences (Grosz E 2000) and/or socially constructed gender codes (Weismann 1994) is also another approach in current research, which focuses on the reasons for the marginalization of women architects. Some feminist theorists, on the other hand, have preferred to interpret the difference by acknowledging women's ways of knowing (Franck 2000). These viewpoints theorize the raison d'être of the secondary roles of women in the profession by criticizing the patriarchal hegemony in general. Despite the modest roles that women take in shaping the built environment, feminist criticism in the field of architecture has enabled recognition of the responsive approach of women architects for sustainability, diversity, and many other everyday matters, including innovative solutions for eliminating the dissatisfaction from standardized modern housing. Participation of women into the practice of architecture obviously can make a great contribution for equal representation in the workforce all over the world. Women are trying to resist against sexism in the economic arena for a long time. On the other hand, women' participation into architecture is not only vital for women architects, but also for many other people who are in demand of a better architectural service which would produce solutions for social problems such as poverty, homelessness, isolation, and extreme consumption of the sources all over the world. Typical male-centric view of architecture focused on the physical aspects and created a form-obsessed physical built environment. On the other hand, women architects do not take conventional star system embedded in the patriarchal roots of the profession into account. Instead, women architects generally prefer to contend with small commissions with a focus on family society issues such as housing and rehabilitation projects. Increasing the number of women in the discipline of architecture is one of the major concerns of national professional organizations in the new millennium. Action plans that were prepared after comprehensive researches include recommendations to educational institutions, professional organizations, employers and practices. The general points taken from a sample report is quoted below: Recommendations to educational institutions included these key points:

This essay is a critical reading of the Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture, designed by Em... more This essay is a critical reading of the Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture, designed by Emre Arolat Architects in Salıpazarı, which is the transformation of an existing warehouse building called Entrepôt Number 5, designed in the 1950s by Sedad Hakkı Eldem (fig. 1). The new museum was completed recently and received its first unofficial guests in 2019 during the 16th Istanbul Biennial. It was officially inaugurated in the fall of 2021. Authorship and authority are considered crucial in architecture. Despite the shift of architectural design from sole authorship to a complex process of interdisciplinary teamwork in recent years, these two issues remain intact. Architectural criticism is also associated with such power mechanisms. In this essay, two layers are formulated with the aim of deconstructing the author and authorship arguments. The first experiments with a different type of architectural criticism: a collaborative essay of three critics, progressively exchanging ideas about a singular building. This process provided us with a flow of criticisms and counter comments that mutually informed one another. It is also crucial to mention that cross-references to Arolat were used so that he may be interpreted as the fourth author. The criticisms are based on the contradiction between the claims of the architect and the facts, calling into question the sincerity, authenticity, and integrity of the building. The second layer is the archeology of authorship in architecture. Arolat sees himself as an author and defines his role as 'guarding the legacy of Eldem' like he frequently compares himself with the masters of modernity or the well-established architects of his epoch. Although Eldem's and Arolat's practices represent two different types of architectural culture in Turkey, both are seen as competent, successful, and appreciated relative to their own time and circumstances. Eldem (1908-1988) is widely respected in Turkish architectural culture: a legendary name in modern architecture and a very influential professor of the Academy of Fine Arts. Therefore, renewing one of his buildings would be an important and intimidating commission for any architect.
