The paper highlights some issues specific to adult learning opposed to those of youth learning, and the corresponding organizational and educational matters fitted to andragogy. It also makes some considerations on less suited aspects of e-learning approaches for the vocational education of young people. Finally, the paper illustrates some aspect of the Sakai platform which specifically addresses to the mentioned adult learning issues.

Some tools help model security concepts, others test and validate results. The article introduces an introduction to the software used to design security systems, especially in the sphere of hierarchical security modelling encountered in organizations. An analysis of the design and modelling tools from the perspective of security requirements and the adjacent principles of interest is presented. As there is no clear separation between design errors and security deficiencies, there are some design practices that lead to a security breach. Obviously, some design methods generate more insecurity than others, which is why the tools are presented from the perspective of vulnerability modelling, cryptography, security protocols, and risk management. The use of security-oriented tools guarantees the availability of functionality, does not guarantee by this functionality the security itself, ...

Six sets of time series are used for this aim, each of them containing ten series—precipitation and temperatures—recorded at the same period at the same hydro-meteorological stations. The existence of a monotonic trend was first assessed for each individual series. Then, the Regional time series (RTS) (one for a set of series) were built and the Mann–Kendall test was employed to test the existence of a monotonic trend for RTSs. In an affirmative case, Sen’s method was employed to determine the slope of the linear trend. Finally, nonparametric trend tests were utilized to verify if there was a correlation between the six RTSs. This study resulted in the fact that the only RTS presenting an increasing trend was that of minimum temperatures, and there was a weak correlation between the RTS ...

Thereby, Sakai Project becomes an awe-inspiring experience that conduct technical and non-technical backgrounds thinkers in IT, networking, interaction and professional development to find ways to design and implement great concepts. Danubius Online Collaboration and Learning Environment., a Sakai based software, share a common commitment to enhancing teaching, learning, research and other types of distributed and collaborative group work. After a 6 months experimental period in which the Sakai CLE was tested, in 2009 Danubius Online pilot portal was released. In this phase, a small number of course sites were used in order to gain experience in real conditions of exploitation...

The paperproposes a unified approach on diagnosis by abduction based on plausibility and relevance criteria multipleapplied, in a connectionist implementation. Then, it focuses elicitation of deep knowledge on target conductiveflow systems – most encountered in industry and not only, in the aim of fault diagnosis. Finally, the paper giveshints on design and building of diagnosis system by abduction, embedding deep and shallow knowledge(according to case) and performing hierarchical fault isolation, along with a case study on a hydraulicinstallation in a rolling mill plant.

Based on the monopolistic competition Dixit-Stiglitz, it fundaments the economic agglomeration and is considered to be principal for the "new geographic economy", a very fecund domain within the actual economic research. For the purpose of the presentation we have performed numeric simulations with the help of Maple product; the entire documentation is available for those concerned.

All these learning forms currently used in the learning process allow the students to acquire and structure knowledge to build their models of the information and environment perception, according to the specific teaching and learning (T&L) needs of each one. Starting from detailing available technologies, the technological constraints, and the impact of these learning management systems (LMS) on the teaching process, this paper aims to adopt a new IT Architecture for learning management systems, based on theory and mental findings, that refers to the system functioning in optimal parameters, while providing support for the multitude of events that may occur during its operation.

Introduced a few years ago, the initial version of the Most Probable Precipitation Method (MPPM) proved to be a valuable competitor against the Thiessen Polygons Method, Inverse Distance Weighting and kriging for estimating the regional trend of precipitation series. Climate Analyzer, introduced here, is a user-friendly toolkit written in Matlab, which implements the initial and modified version of MPPM and new selection criteria of the series that participate in estimating the regional precipitation series. The software provides the graphical output of the estimated regional series, the modeling errors and the comparisons of the results for different segmentations of the time interval used in modeling. This article contains the description of Climate Analyzer, accompanied by a case study to exemplify its capabilities.

In the outliers' presence, the average is not a good choice. Therefore, in this article, we propose two alternatives for replacing the average series by most significant regional series, obtained by two selection procedures. The first algorithm chooses the candidates to be utilized for the regional estimation of pollution by a data segmentation that provides the most representative value for a given time interval. Since the number of segments to be used should be prior introduced, the second algorithm proposes a version of the selection procedure based on the k-means algorithm. The performances of these methods are verified on three groups of series (carbon oxides, sulfur oxides, and nitrogen oxides) recorded in the EEA33 countries during a period of 28 years. Both algorithms give better results than the average series, in terms of mean standard errors (MSE) and mean absolute errors (MAE).
