Apollonian Gothic (original) (raw)

So I am going to be moving to Gainesville at the end of May. I am looking for a small house to rent. Preferably 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, hard wood floors (but not a stickler on that one), and a fenced in back yard. I have a large 64 lb dog and a cat, so the place has to be pet-friendly. I am looking to not spend more than $650/month and am looking for a fairly safe area. Any idea where I should start looking? I am not familiar w/ G'ville at all really. Any helpful hints/ideas would be very appreciated. And if any of you know of any houses for rent around that time... help!!

Welcome, oceans_voice to Apollonian Gawth-ick.
Now get your Bloody Mary, go sit in a dark corner, and think about what you've gotten yourself into.

Multiple things this time around!
-
First off, St. Patty's day is just around the corner (Fri, March 17th), and I'm thinking of holding a shindig at my place. BYOBottle, and maybe we'll sit around the fire and drink ourselves stupid.
Or, we'll watch Boondock Saints and drink ourselves stupid.
Or, we'll listen to good music, talk, play cards, and (catch the similarities!) drink ourselves stupid.
I plan on being FABULOUSLY drunk St. Patty's, so anyone interested?
-
Next on the agenda, Suzy and I have been thinking of starting a monthly "Wine and Cheese" gathering. I've been a part of something similar before, but as I no longer attend, I was thinking I'd have my own. Premise? As your hosts, we'll rent a flick and provide crackers and such, dinnerware, a bottle of wine, some cheese, and a decent film to watch. As our guests, I would ask that you bring your conversation, your person, and a bottle of wine and some cheese. Expirament a little, get some decent stuff! The Wine and Cheese Gallery on Main Street needs business!
I think I'll circulate this a little before I decide on which Saturday it'll be, see what types of interest I get. Then, I'd like to keep the gatherings relatively small, as the point is to converse and sample, not get drunk and party. We'll see what happens.

Lastly, and important to me... I am desperately looking for a Tabletop game to join. So, if you've got a slot in your game, or you'd like to run one, LET ME KNOW! I've only been running games for the past 5 years or so, and I'm TIRED! I'd like to play a few, ya know? I've got some fantastic character ideas, and I'd love to lay 'em down on paper.
I know Rifts, Palladium, and the OLD World of Darkness games really really really well, AD&D (second ed) decently well, and D&D (third) & GURPS well enough to play. I've got my own dice, my own clipboard, and if you play Rifts, I've got a gobton of books.
PLEASE?

Ok, that's enough from me tonight. Talk at you all laters...

Multiculturalism is a stupid fucking waste of time.
Multiculturalism promotes racism and xenophobia by not forcing people to accept a commonality among people. People tend to stay where they are comfortable, and by promoting such activity, it does not allow people to mix and flow as was intended. People prefer ethnic enclaves to a multicultural whirlpool.
Multiculturalism is destroying America. By promoting the exitance of these ethnic conclaves, it deprives people from a sense of Nationalism. A sense of pride within their [new] country. It also creates ghettos whithin which anti-American sentiment can thrive like bacteria.
Multiculturalism deprives people of attaining open-mindedness. If you only interact with people who share the same mindset, you will never find your preconcieved notions attacked, challenged, defeated, or defended. You will continue to maintain your own status quo without any concept of what else is out there.
Multiculturalism is a disease which needs to be eradicated from America, lest America implodes in upon itself under the weight of a million different cultures fighting for dominence.
That said, I would like to say in addendum that I am not for crushing the culture of other people. I am simply stating that we need to create an AMERICAN culture. You moved here to become Americans, then stop trying to be Egyptian, Korean, African, or whatever else. Keep your damn customs, keep your religion, but at least ATTEMPT to insert yourself into American society as a whole.
My biological mother comes from a very isolated culture, and is in fact one of the last of her clan to speak her native dialect. Has that stopped her from becoming American? No. She speaks english with perfect fluidity, she dresses like an American, she drives a car, votes, and maintains a fully-functional role within American society. Has she forgotten where she came from? Absolutely not. Has she forgotten the religion she came over here with? Absolutely not.
I'm so fucking tired of people moving here, living here for decades, and never even attempting to learn our fucking language. I'm tired of going someplace, IN AMERICA, and having to get a translator to buy a pack of cigarettes. I'm tired of everything being so fucking politically-correct so we don't offend anyone.
I say FUCK that. We're all Americans, and we should all act American. If you don't want to become American, DON'T FUCKING MOVE HERE.
We've lost our national identity by pandering to the people who have used their culture as a crutch, or as a reason to sue someone for gobs of cash.
STOP IT.
FUCKING. STOP. IT.

I'm currently working on a semi-long term project for the residents of Gainesville. It will be -more or less- a little booklet describing the flora, fauna and entertainment for the area as well as little niggly bits of information and/or trivia.
Remember that a decent amount of people who move to Gainesville aren't USED to the massive amounts of critters and plantlife that we have here -and it can be scary to find an earwig in your apartment and not know if it can leap up and inject venom into your unguarded ankles.
I dunno, I figure making a few copies and selling them for a buck or two apeice at UF or SFCC would be kind of fun... not to mention being able to allow some of the fellow commenters and stuff from good ol' LJ to get some of their opinions out in a distributed article.
Lemme know what you thinky?
Yours dubiously,
A Crayon

The Catholic Church warns the Faithful that the Bible is not totally accurate.
As what is arguably the SOLE reason the bible exists today, this I find to be absolutely wonderful.
Since the Catholic church is 100% responsable for the Dark Ages, where 98% of the populace couldn't read nor write in their native tongue (not to mention Latin/Greek/Aramaic), I find it reprehensable that the people that "saved" the "original" texts of jesus and his desciples are only NOW admitting fault.
Of course it isn't true. It wasn't true when you fucking wrote it.

Here's the low-down on Market Street Pub:
Club Underground!
When: Saturdays after 2205 (That's 10:05pm to ye' who cannot read MST).
Where: Market Street Pub, hence the name above, which can be found by taking a right turn onto street with RUE Bar and driving all the way to the end and taking a right. It's kinda hard to miss.
How: Much is it going to cost? $3 cover charge for those 18 and up (no youngin's allowed unless you've got a fake ID).
Why: Drink specials are as follows:
$3 Jager Shots
$3 Snakebites
$1 Sodas (?)
Most drinks are below the 5watermark(myBlueLongIslandIcedTeasrunme5 water mark (my Blue Long Island Iced Teas run me 5watermark(myBlueLongIslandIcedTeasrunme5), PLEASE remember to bring extra to tip the bartender!
It is indeed a smoker-friendly bar that is only lacking in ashtrays in that regard.
Dance floor:
Roomy, with a surrounding "patio" type thing that is raised above the dance floor to provide room for either more dancers or lookers-on. Mediocre lighting, but there's only so much you can do without spending a few solid grand.
Talky-bits:
There's two somewhat crowed pool tables to the right of the door, and there is a series of four dart boards -which are a bit more fun than they should be when drinking. Floorspace is generous overall, allowing for sitting back on the patio chairs or just bar grousing.
Remember, if you see a tall guy wandering around with a blue drink in his hand, offer him a cigarette. He will be your friend.
Additional note:
Next door to the Club Underground is Karaoke Night -with no cover charge- in case you just wanna sing your alcohol-drenched lungs out instead. :)
