A centralized application process for applicants to physical therapy residency and fellowship education programs has been available through an online portal known as Residency FellowshipPhysical erapy Centralized Application Service (RF-PTCAS) since 2013. None of these data have been described or analyzed to date beyond an initial internal report of applicant and application numbers. e purpose of this study was to analyze and describe applicants to physical therapist (PT) residency programs from 2013 to 2018, with a specific focus on race and ethnicity. Demographic and admissions research related to PT residency education is limited, and we are unaware of any existing data on residency applicants based on racial and ethnic identity. At present, we can look to existing data from past and current Doctor of Physical erapy (DPT) students to inform expected racial or ethnic composition of current and future residents. Both the Commission on Accreditation in Physical erapy Education and PTCAS provide population demographics of PT students. Methods. A data set from RF-PTCAS was obtained for analysis of applicant data for the application cycles from 2013–2014 to 2017–2018. Applicants to residency programs through RF-PTCAS between 2013 and 2018 were included in this analysis (n = 4,373). Results. is growing applicant pool has remained relatively similar in applicant demographics fromyear to year over this 5-year period of analysis. e data show that applicants to residency are best characterized as: 26–30 years of age, female, White, graduated with their DPTdegree within the same or the previous year of applying to residency, and living in a state in the Southern,Mid-West or Pacific-Coastal regions. Discussion. Overall, the race/ethnicity of White to non-White applicants has remained constant with little change in the growth of non-White applicants. us, despite the “call to action” among leaders in our profession, and an increase in other related health professions, we have had little change across 5 years of admissions data. Conclusion. us, despite the “call to action” among leaders in our profession, and an increase in other related health professions, we have had little change across 5 years of admissions data to residency programs.

In response, there has been a significant increase in the number and use of doulas as paraprofessionals who provide social and emotional support to women during labor/birth for a fee. We conducted a mailed survey of a nationally representative sample of certified and certification-in-process doulas in the United States (n ؍ 626, 64.4% response rate) to gather some descriptive information on their sociodemographic backgrounds, practice characteristics, and beliefs/ attitudes on a number of salient issues. The survey results suggest that, in 2003, doulas were primarily white, well-educated married women with children. The majority of certified doulas worked in solo practice and provided childbirth support services on average to nine clients per year. Very few doulas were earning more than $5,000 per year from this work, and only 10% of certified doulas reported receiving third-party reimbursement for their services. Thus, while almost all doulas found their work emotionally satisfying, only one in three saw their work as financially rewarding. Doulas also reported challenges in getting support/ respect from clinicians and in balancing doula work and family life. In addition, one in four doulas reported that they were preparing for a career in midwifery. Doulas can play an important and unique role in the childbirth process and reap many personal rewards engaging in this type of work. However, a number of financial, personal, and professional challenges present significant obstacles to the growth of doulas as childbirth paraprofessionals in the United States.

During the next several years, meetings were convened and drafts were developed to include input from the ASTRO Board of Directors, other experts within the oncology field, and the ASTRO members themselves. The result of this work was The Report of the ASTRO Working Group on the Scope of Radiation Oncology (from here on referred to as the SCOPE I Report). This report ''outlined the current role of Radiation Oncology and highlighted a number of issues and recommendations potentially important in preserving and enhancing the relevance and value of radiation oncology'' (1).
