St. Augustine’s College, Canterbury, Kent, UK, was located within the precincts of St. Augustine's Abbey. It served first as a Missionary College of ... the Church of England (1848-1947) that sent some 800 men to all parts of the British Empire. The college was so severely damaged by a German air-raid on the night of May 31, 1942, that the it could no longer operate.
The 1948 Lambeth Conference of the Anglican Communion resolved that there should be a central college for the Anglican Communion. St. Augustine’s College served as the Central College from 1952 to 1967 when it closed for lack of support.
In 1967 the King's School, Canterbury, began using St. Augustine's College and purchased the college in 1994.
