Wasn't there always a sound component, on record, to educational filmstrips?

Subject: Growing up Batboy
I really like this odd filmstrip for a number of reasons. Steve is a spoiled kid who wonders why he¡¯s not the center of the universe in his very large family. So one night, he dreams that all his siblings disappear, making him the sole child in the family, and the full bearer of all the responsibilities in this household. Steve wakes from this dream and realizes that brothers and sisters aren¡¯t so bad after all!
OK, let¡¯s first ignore the fact that this filmstrip just totally poo-poo¡¯s the fact that you may come from a one-child family this is quite an entertaining little story.. The kid in this film, whoever he is, does a mighty fine job here. He¡¯s quite photogenic, making for some amusing panels in this strip. (I just love the red pajamas). Finally, noone really has picked up on this, but a certain still in this makes the kid look EXACTLY like Batboy.

Subject: The Nightmare of Sibling Rivalry
Kudos to the AV Geeks Archive for starting to put up filmstrips. This filmstrip features Steve, a small boy with an older brother and sister and a baby brother. He gets frustrated with them the way all kids do, but then he has a bad dream that theyÂre gone, the way kids in most educational films do. This dream cures him of all sibling rivalry, leading to a wonderfully simplistic and unrealistic ending. This is pretty lively stuff for a filmstrip. The images of Steve's dreams are great. ItÂs perhaps not as much fun as seeing the dream acted out for us on film, but it makes up for it by having lots of striking still images, any of which would look great on a t-shirt. More fun than youÂd think a filmstrip would be.
