Subject: Good colonization history book
If you are interested in world history and colonial history, then this book is a must-read. Here is given an introduction to the Congo history, first explorers and the brutal rule of King Leopold. But if you put atrocities which were made by people in charge, you find that King Leopold is a mastermind. He is like head of corporation, always acting according to the changes in politics, economics, etc. All his ups and downs. You find a person who is obsessed with one dream of his life and how he made it come true.
On the other side, you meet simple people, like travelers, writers, explorers, and missionaries, who started movement against atrocities in Congo. And their life stories.
What I did not like about this book was hoe explorer Stanley was depicted. After reading a comprehensive story about Stanley, written by Tim Jeal, I cannot agree with his picture as an evildoer.
