HONG KONG -- The daughter of outspoken Chinese businessman Ren Zhiqiang, who is reportedly critically ill in a mainland jail, has published an open letter to President Xi Jinping with a plea for her father to receive medical treatment abroad.

In the letter, dated Wednesday, Ren Xinyi makes an "earnest request" on humanitarian grounds that Xi allows her father, who is in his 70s, to leave the country for the care he needs.
