However, worries about the industry's environmental impact have been raised due to its significant contribution to environmental degradation and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The necessity of environmentally friendly vessel scheduling procedures in the maritime industry is covered in this study. Few research have examined the environmental effects of vessel scheduling in liner shipping, despite the fact that it has drawn scholarly attention. The significance of green or environmentally responsible boat scheduling techniques in lowering greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enhancing environmental performance is emphasized by this study. It emphasizes how speed of a vessel directlyaffects emissions, highlighting the necessity for liner shipping companies to slow down in order to lessen greenhouse gas emissions. Planning sustainable and ecologically friendly routes while retaining efficiency is a challenge for shipping companies, though. In order to tackle these obstacles, decision support systems (DSSs) are suggested as useful instruments that offer data and direction for making knowledgeable and ecologically conscious scheduling choices. Shipowners can effectively manage the environmental impact and promote sustainability of their vessel scheduling while navigating the complexities of the industry by incorporating DSSs into their operations. The research's conclusions benefit the UN.

To develop a preoperative scoring model to assess difficulty of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC)... more To develop a preoperative scoring model to assess difficulty of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) and risk of conversion to open cholecystectomy (OC), retrospective analysis of patients who underwent elective LC and LC converted to OC between 01/06/ 2013 and 01/06/2014. LC difficulty assessment was based on operative time (OT) and conversion to OC. Preoperative factors included age; ultrasound scan (USS) findings; "gallbladder (GB) wall thickness; other acute inflammatory signs, e.g. pericholecystic fluid collection, common bile duct (CBD) diameter, and size of gallstones (GS)"; previous pancreatitis; endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) or magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP). Preoperative weighted score for LC difficulty was formulated based on the degree of significance of preoperative factors. A total of 280 patients were included, and 3.9% had open conversion. Univariate analysis revealed highly significant (HS) association between prolonged OT and USS findings, thick GB wall (P = 0.003) and other acute inflammatory signs (P = 0.0001). Significant (S) association with pancreatitis (P = 0.05), ERCP (P = 0.027) and MRCP (P = 0.016). Conversion to OC had HS association with thick GB wall (P = 0.001) and other acute inflammatory signs (P = 0.0001), S association with age > 62.3 (P = 0.015) and large GS (P = 0.035). Score was formulated as follows: 2 points for HS factors on the multivariate analysis (thick GB wall and other acute inflammatory signs) (P = 0.027 and 0.007, respectively) and 1 point for each S factor (age > 62, large GS, pancreatitis and ERCP/MRCP). Sensitivity and specificity using ROC curve showed that patients scoring < 2 had a straightforward LC with OT < 63 min and no conversions to OC; score ≥ 2 had a difficult LC with prolonged OT ≥63 min (sensitivity 46%, specificity 70%, P = 0.03) but no conversion to OC, and score ≥ 4 had more difficult LC with OT ≥63 min and with possible conversions to OC (sensitivity 73%, specificity 87%, P = 0.001). The scoring system could be helpful in preoperative planning to improve efficiency of theatre time, better utilisation of day surgery lists and assignment of the appropriate surgical grade/experience.

In particular, the study examines whether the adoption of entrepreneurial finance (EF) principles in crowdfunding platforms affects the economic success of funding and entrepreneurs’ ability in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to access financial resources. The study uses an online questionnaire survey on Crowdfunding economic success in the GCC to collect information from the participants. Participants are investors, entrepreneurs, and startups from five Gulf countries (i.e., Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and UAE) in addition to several Crowdfunding platforms commonly used by crowdfunders in this region (such as Indiegogo, Kickstarter, Eureeca, Beehive and GoFundMe) with total members (102964). Signaling theory and principle-agent theory combine to make a theoretical foundation that explains the relationship between funders and fundraisers. The pilot sample consisting of 10 units was used to validate and verify the research instrument of the study. The research sample consists of 1145 respondents (sample size n = 1145) selected randomly from the five Gulf countries included in the study. The findings reveal that CF’s presence positively impacts economic fundraising success and that crowdfunding platforms are an effective financial technology (Fintech) tool for financing entrepreneurs in the GCC. We conclude with recommendations for future EF and CF research. The findings of this study will have implications for improvements in practices of economic and finance. They may be used as a guide towards advancing the management and performance of the crowdfunding platforms in the Gulf region. Presently, a very few number of published research on crowdfunding exist in this region. Moreover, to the best of our knowledge, there is no single study investigating crowdfunding as an alternative financing source in the GCC.

The study was undertaken in two stages. First, it was felt necessary to obtain a broad overview of the effect of the pandemic related risk of COVID-19 on investors' herding in the GCC. This was achieved by analyzing secondary data (i.e. daily historic prices on five GCC country market indices). In analyzing the secondary data, the study follows Christie and Huang (1995) and employs the cross-sectional standard deviation (CSSD) of returns to detect investors' herding behavior. Second, in an attempt to obtain a more precise understanding of the impact of pandemic related risk, a questionnaire survey was distributed and collected from 318 investors from the GCC stock markets. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was also used as the primary analysis between the two variables: i.e. expectations of pandemic risk and herding behavior. The findings reveal that expectations of pandemic risk have a significant positive impact on the herding behavior in the GCC stock markets during the coronavirus crisis in the first quarter of 2020. Finally, the results of this study are robust to a range of model specifications.

Multiple regression models are used to study the influence of both the internal bank-specific characteristics and the external macroeconomic environment on the performance of the three types of banks in Egypt. Return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE) are employed to measure the performance of the three types of banks in Egypt. Moreover, a set of internal and external factors are considered as independent variables including; liquidity, capital adequacy, asset quality, operation efficiency, bank's size, GDP growth rate (GDP GR), and inflation rate. The findings reveal that operation efficiency has a significant negative impact on the three types of banks in Egypt, while bank's size and inflation rate have a significant influence merely on the performance of conventional banks. In addition, capital adequacy and asset quality have a positive significant influence on the performance of mixed banks. Furthermore, the comparison between financial performances of the three types of banks indicates that there is a significant difference between both ROA and ROE of Islamic banks and conventional banks, and the performance of conventional banks is better than the performance of Islamic banks in Egypt. On the other hand, there is no significant difference between the performance of Islamic banks and mixed banks, while there is a significant difference between ROA of conventional banks and mixed banks and no significant difference between ROE of conventional and mixed banks. The study also identifies the most significant indicators that contribute to assessing the performance of the three banking modes in Egypt.

Hence, this paper aims to narrow this gap by developing specific aspect profiles for sustainability strategies. The method of the current study relied on both primary data and secondary data. Hence, a questionnaire survey was developed to collect the required data. While, secondary data sources are obtained through the website sustainabilityexcellence.com. The data processing techniques were carried out using Stata 16 software and using the Multiple Linear Regression method. The sample of the study consisted of 422 people from different Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) i.e. Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman. The results revealed a high degree of stakeholders' perception of corporate sustainability strategies in the GCC. Also, people are aware and ready to afford the cost and efforts to generate more reliable and advanced strategies that promote corporate sustainability. The study also underscores three suggested recommendations that are based on a novel model (Reachable, Meaningful, and Fun "RMF"), as each element of this model is a recommendation that It believed to be highly-impactful actions that supports corporate leaders/teams to engage more fruitfully with stakeholder (more specifically customers and communities) and enrich the CSS. Lastly, this research effort is concluded with implications on the suggested recommendation (RMF), followed by some of the most critical takeaways for our corporate practices. The paper helps companies that already commit to sustainability to verify whether they are consistent in the implementation of a distinct sustainability strategy.

Previous research findings reveal that privately owned companies are more efficient and profitable than comparable state owned enterprises (SOEs). Moreover, it has been argued that these reforms would be even more effective if accompanied by privatisation. As a result, privatisation that aims to enhance the performance of SOEs has been regarded as one of the key features of emerging economies. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to examine the extent to which the benefits of privatisation have been achieved in emerging economies. In particular, the study assesses the developmental changes and improvements in the performance of privatised companies in Egypt as an emerging economy. METHODS: This study was carried out in three stages. First, it was felt necessary to obtain a broad overview of the effect of the Egyptian privatisation programme on the performance of the privatised companies by analyzing secondary data of privatized companies. Second, in an attempt to obtain a more precise understanding of the impact of privatisation, an online questionnaire survey was distributed to the finance managers of 56 privatised companies during the period September 2020 to January 2021. Third, a series of semi-structured interviews were undertaken with senior managers in 8 different privatised companies. The purpose of these interviews was to supplement and amplify the themes and issues that had arisen from stages I and II of the research. RESULTS: The findings reveal that privatisation improved the process of accountability within the company and efficiency gains is the most important advantage of privatisation. CONCLUSIONS: The study concludes that privatisation leads to more difficulty in safeguarding the interests of the weaker groups in society.
