Us... more Senior population provides significant amount of volunteer work in communities across America. Using data from the Arizona Health Survey 2010, this study examines the impact of social context on senior volunteering. The results show that seniors who have more friends to rely on, who often hang out with others, help friends and neighbors, and participate in social clubs or religious and other organizations are more likely to volunteer. Education and self reported physical health also increase their chance of volunteering. Additionally, African American seniors are more likely to report volunteering than their Hispanic counterparts. The findings suggest the importance of social context in encouraging senior volunteering and imply the significance of network-based volunteer recruitment among seniors.

Of the 156 responding agencies located in Illinois, 50 indicated that "compliance with popular public or market wants" was the primary stated mission of their organization. Another 50 respondents felt that "compliance with popular public or market wants" shared the top mission rating with the alternative mission purposes of "enhancement of human and/or environmental well-being" (34) and "increased ratio of revenue to expense" (10). On a 0-10-point scale, chief executive officers (CEO) ofthe agencies studies stated that significant variation was present between mission and actual practice ratings. The operational realities of cost containment and emphasis on revenue generation were evidenced by CEO ratings. There appeared to be a greater tendency for organization to adhere in actual practice to the purpose of "c...

In many instances, however, Aristotelian conceptions of leisure are poorly understood or misinterpreted, and clearly not utilized in the philosophies of most leisure service delivery organizations. This paper attempts to reveal the potential for practical application of the Aristotelian view of leisure through five key elements of the classical leisure approach. Outdoor recreation is offered as one area which has initiated opportunities for solitude, moderation and reflection superseding the provision of mass recreation. Aristotelian view results in leisure as an activity of the highest order, recreation professionals become social reformers who redesign the delivery system and re-educate the public in order to upgrade the quality of leisure. Society is organized in a way that even when we have some leisure time, we don't kn...

However, there has not been a systematic research effort to understand the travel behavior of Japanese visitors to Turkey. The purpose of this exploratory study was to segment Japanese travelers to Turkey using travel motivations as part of travel behavior descriptors. Theoretical and practical contributions of the motivation factors are discussed within the framework of Iso-Ahola’s arousal theory. The article concludes with marketing and management implications as suggested by the study findings.
