Sidsel Maria Westh-Hansen - Profile on Academia.edu (original) (raw)
My PhD studies evolve around questions regarding cross-cultural interaction, exchange and other cultural dimensions of globalisation in the Seleukid kingdom and the Mediterranean from the 4th to the 1st century BC. More specifically, I focus on an investigation of the archaeological material from two regions, Phoenicia and Mesopotamia, during this period of transition and change. The developments in the material culture of the two regions are highly dependent on pre-existing networks and modes of contact as well as the new conditions following the Macedonian hegemony in the region. My aim is to illuminate how different global processes can be perceptible in the archaeological record and to attempt an interpretation of the consequences for the societies involved based on analysis of archaeological and relevant inscriptional material.
