Heads up! Magpie swooping season is upon us! Remember, magpies only swoop to protect their babies. It can be a bit scary, but there are a few simple tips you can follow to avoid being swooped. ๐ ๐บ๏ธ If you know of a swooping magpie, change your route. Magpies will only swoop within around 100 metres of their nest. ๐ถ Move through the area quickly and calmly (but donโt run). ๐ถ๏ธ Protect your head with an umbrella, hat or helmet, and wear sunglasses. ๐ช Travel in groups! Magpies will usually only attack an individual target. ๐ค Donโt act aggressively towards the magpie or youโll only aggravate it further. ๐ Keep your dog on a leash. Thankfully, the swooping season is short. Magpies only swoop for around six weeks, and many wonโt swoop at all! โก๏ธ If youโd like to learn more, or youโre concerned about a particularly aggressive magpie, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gzpqHmuJ - Have you tried booking an appointment at an Access Canberra Service Centre? - We love Canberraโs trig points and we know weโre not alone! โค๏ธ Youโll find trigonometrical stations (better known as trig points) at the highest point of a mountain or hill all around the ACT. They were originally installed for mapping and surveying but have become a popular beacon for bushwalkers. The process of hiking to a variety of trigs is known as trig-pointing or trig-bagging. There are 64 trigs to discover within the ACT's nature parks and reserves, with difficulty varying across the sites. Ticking them off can be very addictive. How many trigs have you reached? Safety is key when visiting any of our parks and reserves, and the difficulty in accessing trig station sites varies. Before you head out, tell someone where you are going and when you'll return, especially if you plan to venture into remote areas. Find out more: https://bit.ly/3Z09K2v
