The Australian Museum has launched the Pasifika Tauhi Project – a trial project that will see the AM partner with cultural institutions and communities in the Pacific to assist in cultural preservation and revitalisation. Supported by the U.S. Embassy in Australia, the Pasifika Tauhi Project aims to safeguard local knowledges and practices, particularly from the impact of a changing climate. U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy said, “The museum sector understands the vital importance of preserving the collections and cultural heritage of these nations. Through the Australian Museum’s Pasifika Tauhi project, we will support work across the region to establish best practice, knowledge sharing and cultural catalogues.” The word ‘tauhi’ is Tongan for ‘look after, tend to or to take care of’, articulating the aim of this project. “Museums across the Pacific region are at the forefront of the efforts to preserve and protect cultural knowledge and identity. This trial project is a positive step forward to help mitigate the impacts of climate change on cultural heritage,” AM Director & CEO, Kim McKay AO said. Initially the project will include Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Papua New Guinea over a trial period of six months. Find out more: https://bit.ly/48Tkpi8📸: Wendy Chung- +1

- Species of the week - Booroolong Frog (Litoria booroolongensis) 🐸 🎉This frog species was thought to be locally extinct from the New England Tablelands of NSW for over 40 years, but a small population was rediscovered in 2017 by Australian Museum researchers. This beautiful frog is a medium-sized species of frog reaching up to 5.5 cm in body length. It has a grey-brown or reddish-brown back, with dark or light brown spots and patches with a horizontal pupil and gold iris. It used to be common throughout the northern and southern tablelands in NSW and eastern VIC, but has declined severely due to the amphibian chytrid fungus. You can help protect the future of frogs like the Booroolong Frog, by getting involved in #FrogIDWeek happening now! Find out more: https://bit.ly/3UtDmAc📸: Dr Jodi Rowley
- Small actions we take every day combine to make a big impact. Our goal is to reduce waste in every possible part of the Australian Museum. You might be surprised to learn that even the materials used in our exhibitions are recycled over and over again! Our recent photography exhibition, Australian Geographic Nature Photographer Of The Year, had walls that are designed to be pulled apart, painted and reused for future exhibitions. If you look closely, you might just see these very panels looking very different in our upcoming blockbuster, Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru! These same panels and completely transformed from one exhibition to the next. The AM is part of the Sustainable Destination Partnership: a groundbreaking collaboration dedicated to making Sydney a model of sustainability in the tourism industry. Collectively, our member organisations have diverted 50% of waste from landfill since 2018 - and we're looking for more opportunities to do so every year.#SustainableDestinationPartnership #SDG1 #SustainableSydney📸: David Teer and Michael Smith

- We all know frogs can hop, but this takes things to a whole new level 🐸 The Rockhole frog (Litoria meiriana) is known for its ability to skip across water without breaking the surface. These tiny frogs are found in rock holes in the Northern Territory & Western Australia. Live near those areas? We need your help to record the calls of Rockhole frogs this #FrogIDWeek! We only have a small number of records of this frog and the more we can get, the better we can understand how they’re faring. FrogID Week is happening now until Sunday 17 November. - 🐸 Blink, and you might miss this little fellow! The Tasmanian Tree Frog (Litoria burrowsae) is one of Australia's most exceptional frog species. Located only in Tassie, this frog is found in rainforest, alpine areas, and sedgeland habitats. It has a distinctive 'honk' call. This species is highly variable in colour and pattern, however it tends to have a bright green or brown back. It is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, meaning it is close to becoming threatened. Join us in better understanding the state of Australia's frogs this FrogID Week. Find out more: https://bit.ly/2HHrO69 #FrogIDWeek📸: Dr Jodi Rowley
