- 🧅🧅Onions don’t just have layers – they have layers of flavours. Executive Chef Telina Menzies is on a mission to bring onions into the spotlight. This humble, versatile and cost-effective vegetable is full of potential. Telina is working with chefs and food service professionals. The success of the program supported by Hort Innovation, “Onion nutrition education program for health professionals and the food service industry,” has seen the project extended until February 2025. At September’s Fine Food Australia, Telina joined other chefs for the “Anything Goes…with Onions” masterclass to share inspiration and education on the culinary possibilities of onions. - On National Ag Day, AUSVEG has launched its Federal Election Priorities outlining the key commitments needed to address the cost-of-production crisis and rock-bottom sentiment threating Australia’s vegetable growers and food security. Our Federal Election Priorities document outlines 21 commitments we are seeking from all parties contesting the next election, under the pillars of Secure supply, Skills and workforce stability, Structural supports for business, and Sustainable future. With Australian growers currently producing 98 percent of the fresh vegetables consumed in this country, urgent action on these key priorities is crucial to preventing an exodus from the industry, and dire flow-on impacts for consumer prices and food security. AUSVEG’s Federal Election Priorities document provides a clear blueprint for commitments from all political parties to address the vegetable industry’s key issues, as identified directly by growers.
