About us

Our story began in 1916 with Celestino Baiada – a man who valued family above everything else. He found success in poultry and property, leaving a legacy he hoped would allow for expansion of the business, which could live on through future generations. We are passionate about producing premium quality poultry products through our Lilydale Free Range and Steggles brands. Years of experience has seen us grow into one of the country’s leading poultry producers. Under the brands of Steggles and Lilydale Free Range, we are able to satisfy Australia’s appetite for chicken every year. A vertically integrated model means we can better manage the poultry production process from start to finish; this includes breeding and hatching our chickens, producing feed, processing, and supplying fresh poultry and value-added products to local retailers, Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs) and food service customers. Being family owned, our passion, our ambitions and beliefs bring us together, regardless of who we are or what part of the business we work in. New Oakburn Poultry Processing plant in Tamworth! To meet Australia’s insatiable appetite for poultry and the demands of future generations, we are delighted to share the exciting news that we have commenced construction of our state-of-the art Processing Plant in Tamworth. Scheduled to be completed by early 2026, this new facility will stand as a beacon of progress and possibility, as well as our commitment to setting new standards in the poultry industry. We have collaborated with industry experts worldwide to create the Processing Plant, which will embrace some of the most innovative, sustainable and advanced processing technology in the world. Key highlights include: Capacity: The facility is set to process up to 3 million chickens per week. With an online process from start to finish. The first of its kind in Australia of this scale, featuring cutting-edge technology like complete air chill processing and online bone detection for superior food safety. Plus, fully automated cold store and online traceability ensures quality remains our highest priority. Sustainability and Innovation at its core: For us, sustainability isn't just a goal, it's a commitment. From harnessing renewable energy such as Biogas from our established waste water treatment plant to being one of the first to install an advanced water system initiative to reduce town water usage - every aspect of the new Processing Plant is designed with long-term sustainability in mind. Once the facility is operational, it is estimated that up to 85% of waste water will be treated to potable standard for reuse within the facility itself. Employment: Creating over 700 additional jobs at full capacity, the Oakburn Plant is not just about efficiency—it's about fostering a workplace that inspires and empowers. With modern amenities and a focus on employee wellbeing, we are setting a new standard in workplace culture. This week, Baiada Poultry had the privilege to attend the Romeo’s retail group conference for 2024. I am incredibly proud of our team for winning not one but three incredible achievements at the awards night. New South Wales meat supplier of the year Adelaide meat supplier of the year Romeos’s supplier of the year It's great to be recognised by the Romeo’s family for our team's commitment to their business and ongoing success. We could not have won these awards without the incredible staff we have in NSW & SA and the expertise from our merchandising partner Mac Merchandising who have grown our Independent’s business to record levels. We appreciate all the hard work Steve Macdonald & Brooke Larkin do for Baiada Poultry and can’t wait for the continued success.
Thank you to all our Baiada staff who participated in this year’s Clean Up Australia Initiative across our sites nationally. Over a hundred staff participated in this year’s Clean up Australia activities, working together collecting over 540kg of garbage and recycling with the goal to conserve the local area, wildlife and keep Australia beautiful. Our long-term partnership with Clean up Australia stretches over 17 years and has resulted in over 2500 staff participation in this initiative and over 62,000 kgs of rubbish being collected in total. By engaging people from our site across the country, we emphasised the power of tackling environmental challenges - together. At Baiada, we’re always striving to promote environmental awareness, inspire sustainable practices and make a positive difference in the community. We are thrilled to share that Baiada has reached another milestone in our sustainability journey! 🌍 This month, we have fully commissioned Biogas pipelines to three of our processing facility boilers at Hanwood (Griffith), Beresfield (Newcastle), and Oakburn (Tamworth) as part of our ongoing commitment to minimising our impact on the environment. Our established Wastewater Treatment Plants play a crucial role in this initiative. By harnessing the power of anaerobic digestion, methane - a valuable byproduct of the breakdown of organic matter by bacteria - is converted into Biogas. This renewable energy source not only reduces our reliance on natural gases but also reduces carbon dioxide emissions, aligning perfectly with our sustainability goals. At Baiada, we believe in leading by example and continuously exploring innovative solutions to reduce our environmental footprint. Our friends from Steggles popped by recently to prepare some all-time British Favourites for dinner 🍗 This year marks their 11th year of support for RMHC through donations and products, as well as frequent visits to the House for our Meals from the Heart program.
