About us

GiveOUT is an LGBTIQ+ led organisation focused on increasing philanthropic dollars to rainbow communities. GiveOUT achieves this through sector capacity building to increase financial resiliency, research and advocacy around LGBTIQ+ giving, and the distribution of funds to LGBTIQ+ community organisation through GiveOUT Day and the Amplify Pride Fund. Over the past six years, GiveOUT has distributed over $1.5 million to over 100 LGBTIQ+ organisations. Our flagship program GiveOUT Day is happening again on 19 October 2023. 🌍 Creating a World Beyond Gender Norms: Advocate for Change on GiveOut Day 🌈 As an advocate for a more inclusive society, I draw inspiration from leaders like the eloquent ALOK Vaid-Menon who inspires us respectfully to challenges the traditional constructs of gender. Please check out Alok, who’s work exemplifies how dismantling the gender binary can lead to a safer world for everyone. Their advocacy highlights the importance of recognising gender as a fluid spectrum rather than a rigid binary, thus allowing each individual the freedom to express their true identity without fear of discrimination or violence. This vision blends beautifully with another leader who inspires me and think is equally important - Layla Martin’s transformative insights on consent and respect. Layla teaches us that true respect originates from understanding and honouring the unique identities and boundaries of every person. In a world that truely respects consent, individuals are empowered to live authentically, free from societal prejudices and pressures that dictate how one should express themselves. Embracing these values and beliefs not only protects the most marginalised in our communities but uplifts everyone by promoting mutual respect and understanding. 📆 On October 17th, during GiveOut Day, I am calling upon all allies and advocates to join me in supporting LGBTQIA+ organisations 🌈 It is alarming that these organisations receive the smallest portion of Australia’s generosity, despite their vital role in fostering safe and inclusive communities. I've just come back from annual leave with exciting news that I have been selected as a Churchill Fellowship recipient! I feel very honoured for this opportunity to spend 4-6 weeks in the United States and United Kingdom to investigate innovative global philanthropy strategies that can help improve outcomes for LGBTIQ+ people in Australia. Not only does this mean a lot personally, but it is also an important vote of confidence by such a respected institution, into the important need for greater philanthropy and inclusion for our rainbow communities. My Churchill project will seek to answer: What are the drivers behind greater philanthropic funding to LGBTIQ+ communities in the US and UK? What innovative philanthropy models and ways of working could we bring to Australia? How can we engage more communities in greater giving? I hope to develop a clear roadmap for advancing LGBTIQ+ philanthropy in Australia, to be implemented with the help of GiveOUT Australia, The Aurora Group - A Ruby Foundation Ltd and our other sector partners. There will also be insights applicable for other marginalised populations that struggle to access philanthropic funding. The end goal is a resilient and well-resourced Australian LGBITQ+ community sector that is better able to meet demand for services and ultimately create greater equality for all Australians.
