We design and deliver high-impact interventions to increase access to legal support and progress social justice.
About us
Justice Connect is a specialist legal service that brings together the best of Australia’s corporate and legal assistance sectors to help ensure that people facing disadvantage, and the organisations that support them, can access justice. Alongside our role in connecting community lawyers and their clients with corporate lawyers ‘giving back’ to the community and volunteering their skills, we also provide dedicated legal support to clients through our growing number of innovative programs. We also work closely with lawyers to build and strengthen lawyers’ commitment to their pro bono responsibilities and to support them to undertake pro bono work, and we challenge and change unfair laws and policies that cause or perpetuate injustice.

- 🏆 We are thrilled to announce that Home of Your Own has won a 2024 Good Design Award in the Social Impact category! 🏡 Launched in May 2024, Home of Your Own is a free online self-help tool that helps renters facing family violence to remain safely housed. 💻 We are proud to receive this recognition for our work as we find innovative ways to increase our assistance to renters facing homelessness and family violence. 👏 Justice Connect would like to thank Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner, ERDI Foundation and Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation for making this work possible through their support. We would also like to acknowledge the advocates and women with lived experience of family violence and homelessness, as well as the frontline community workers, who shared their insights and contributed to the creation of this tool. ➡️ Visit Good Design to find out more about Home of Your Own’s Good Designs Award 2024 win: https://lnkd.in/g-Z8yxSS

- 📣 ADVOCACY WIN: Equal access costs model for victim-survivors of sexual harassment and discrimination 📜 As a member of the #PowertoPrevent Coalition, we welcome the passing of the Australian Human Rights Commission Amendment (Costs Protection) Bill, which makes it easier for victim-survivors to pursue discrimination or sexual harassment cases in court. ⚖️ Under an equal access costs model, victim-survivors can take their perpetrator to court, without the risk of being forced to pay the perpetrator’s legal fees if they lose. 💰 A first in Australian discrimination law, this provides a huge financial justice, as harassment and discrimination legal fees can easily be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. 👏🏻 The Power to Prevent coalition has strongly advocated for this reform, and congratulate the Commonwealth Government for their commitment to breaking down barriers to justice for people seeking relief for sexual harassment and discrimination. - 18 months since the Federal Government's commitment to #FixFundraising, progress to harmonise Australia's fundraising laws has been painfully slow. "Australia continues to have out of date, complex, and inconsistent fundraising laws that impose unnecessary burdens on charities, diverting limited resources away from their critical work helping people in need at a time when the charity sector is facing increasing demand for services and a very strained funding environment." Head of Not-for-Profit Law Geraldine Menere told the Institute of Community Directors Australia. Read the full interview: https://lnkd.in/eJvnEed
