- Being a trans ally isn't just for people outside the LGBTQIA+ community. As a cisgendered queer person, there are so many ways you can improve your trans allyship. Because together, we are stronger. Here are some tips on how you can be a better trans ally, and make sure you're supporting your trans, gender diverse and non-binary mates and family – as well as the wider community.
- Sorry, but citing a "difference of opinion" is NOT okay when it comes to your prejudices about who people are. It's okay not to get it – but listen and learn with empathy, so that you can try to understand. It's NOT okay to not respect people, and their gender, their identity, their expressions, their pronouns.
- We get asked this all the time: "how can I be an active ally for the trans community?" So, here are six tips you can implement right away. They're even simpler than you think! Learn more:
6 Tips to be a Trans Ally - "I don't use pronouns" It's something we hear pretty often – so, we thought we'd do a little deep dive into why this is not true. Perhaps next time you hear someone say this, you can use this knowledge to debunk their theory!
- A reminder for everyone this Trans Awareness Week 🏳️⚧️
- TODAY'S THE DAY – it's the start of Trans Awareness Week! 🏳️⚧️ Above all, it's a time for trans pride, and we'll be celebrating our pride all week long! To all of our incredible trans attendees, supporters, friends, donors, family, community: take this week to REALLY CELEBRATE you, your identity, and your journey. Know that everyone at Minus18, and so many across the country, will be celebrating trans pride all week long! For everyone else? This is the perfect week to assess your own actions and how you can be a better trans ally. It's a chance to elevate your understanding of trans identities, the barriers faced by the trans community, and the actions you can take to amplify and support. This year, it's really more important than ever to be a trans ally. Yes, you might remember we said this same sentiment last year – but the stakes really grow every year. And it's so important in 2024. With discrimination and hatred on the rise, further fuelled by ongoing political discourse, we need visible and active support of the trans community. If you've been looking for a time to make your voice heard – THIS IS THE TIME. Not sure what to say or need some extra help and resources? Keep your eyes right here! All week, we'll be sharing educational and affirming content to really celebrate trans identities – including plenty of resources that you can share. Celebrating the week at work, school, or in your community? Tag us! We'd love to see how you celebrate. HAPPY TRANS AWARENESS WEEK! We can't wait to celebrate all week long, and see how you do too 💙🤍💖

- Today is Intersex Day of Solidarity. It's a chance for everyone to stand proudly with the intersex community, and learn about intersex experiences. Today, we're encouraging everyone to really dive in and learn more – listen to the voices of intersex people, read up on what it means to be intersex, and understand the barriers faced. Because, as we know, education really is step one in standing proudly in solidarity. For more resources, check out ihra.org.au
