About us

The South Australian Wine Industry Association is the peak body representing the viticultural and winemaking interests of the state. SAWIA is an essential business partner to wine producers and grape growers of South Australia. The association’s core functions are to provide representation, leadership, advice, information, products and services to members. The association provides practical information and advice to members in many areas - Industrial relations / employee relations, awards and wages, legislation services, human resources / work health safety, job dictionary, OHSW Guidelines, environment, viticulture, environmental excellence award, environment conference, export, export opportunities, promotional programs and market development, regional branding marketing materials, state wine branding materials, liquor licensing, industry training, up to date industry news, monthly newsletters, special member only offers, and wine appreciation courses through its National Wine Education & Training Centre. Members are encouraged to share their expertise via the Employee Relations, Work Health and Safety, and Environment Committees that deal with specific subjects, and provide a forum for the exchange of information, development of policy and new ideas. The Regional Associations Forum also meets regularly ensuring that state and regions work together.

• 🗣️🍇🚚The South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA) is pleased to announce the release of the draft Wine Industry Code of Practice. This Code has been developed following four years of engagement and input from wine producers, growers, transporters, and other key stakeholders. This project led by SAWIA in partnership with Australian Grape & Wine aims to enhance road safety by helping the industry meet its Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL). Supported by funding from the **NHVR’s Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative (Round 5) and the Australian Government, this draft is now open for public feedback until 29 November 2024. This is an important opportunity for all stakeholders in the wine industry to review and provide input on a Code to support wine business that operates, uses or works with heavy vehicles.   The #NHVR has released the draft Wine Industry Code of Practice, to allow any stakeholder with an interest in the wine industry to review and comment on the Code before it is assessed for registration. NHVR Chief Safety and Productivity Officer David Hourigan said the Wine Code has been produced to help boost safety outcomes within the wine industry, aimed at assisting parties in the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) comply with their primary duty obligations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL). The Code is available for feedback until 29 November 2024. • Today is World Mental Health Day 🌎💗 World Mental Health Day shines a spotlight on the significant impact workplaces have on mental health, with one in six Australian workers currently living with a mental illness (according to the Black Dog Institute). Work-related stress is often caused by factors such as poor relationships at work, unclear roles, lack of recognition, bullying, and poor working conditions. These issues can lead to psychological harm and, in some cases, physical symptoms as well. In the past, addressing only individual concerns, without considering the overall workplace environment, has failed to eliminate these risks or provide adequate support for employees. Businesses that invest in mental health benefit from greater productivity, a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining talent, and improved overall performance. For employees, this leads to a healthier work-life balance and improved mental wellbeing. SAWIA encourages taking proactive steps in improving mental health in the workplace. How can SAWIA help?   Women currently or previously employed in wine and grape industry occupations over the past 10 years are being invited to take part in a Wine Australia-funded study aimed at gaining deeper insights into the challenges and opportunities related to gender equality, diversity, and inclusion within the Australian wine sector. The study delivers on Wine Australia’s commitments in the One Grape & Wine Sector Plan released in August to improve diversity and inclusion in the sector and in leadership and attract and retain skilled workers. Expressions of interest to be involved in the study should be received by the research team from Charles Sturt University and UNSW by no later than 31 October 2024.
